Body Scanners

The Dutch government says it will immediately begin using full body scanners on flights to the United States to prevent future terrorist attacks like the Christmas Day attempt by a young Nigerian. http://www.lansingstatejournal.com/article/20091230/NEWS01/312300004/1001/NEWS

So what’s been the hold up in America?  There is no head of the TSA, they are more worried about the Union than security, and the ACLU and other civil liberties groups are having a hissy fit.  For one of the first times I can ever recall, I am all for more government regulating who gets to fly and am willing to give up some privacy to ensure the safety of air travel.  OMG, is it the year end holiday brain mush that just wrote more government??

From 2004.  “The Bush administration has decided to scale back and delay the debut of a vast airline passenger screening program until after the presidential election, federal officials said yesterday. The decision comes after months of meetings with airline officials and lawmakers who pressed the administration to drop more controversial elements of the program, known as Computer Assisted Passenger Pre-Screening Program, or CAPPS II. ” http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A53320-2004Jul15.html

For 6 years this technology has been out there, ready for use and could have prevented the uni-bomber and the underwear bomber from trying to blow up airplanes!

On October 1, 2009 – “The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has revealed plans to install 150 body scanning machines for primary security screenings at airports across the country. The American Civil Liberties Union strongly opposes the expanded use of this invasive technology, which amounts to a virtual strip search and reveals strikingly graphic images of passengers’ bodies, including intimate medical details like colostomy bags or evidence of mastectomy. ….  By expanding the use of body scanning technology, the TSA is backing away from numerous assertions that it would use these machines only for secondary screenings. There are no laws or regulations limiting how the TSA uses these virtual strip searches, only policies they choose to adopt, and nothing to prevent the TSA from making it mandatory for all passengers to submit to these invasive and embarrassing searches, having their privacy stripped away in order to board a plane.

The following can be attributed to Christopher Calabrese, ACLU Legislative Counsel for technology and privacy.

“This new body scanning technology is a frontal assault on personal privacy, with virtual strip searches revealing private body parts and intimate medical details. This degree of examination amounts to a significant – and for some people humiliating – attack on the essential dignity of passengers that citizens in a free nation should not have to tolerate. Passengers expect privacy underneath their clothing and should not be required to display highly personal details of their bodies in order to fly.
via http://www.commondreams.org/newswire/2009/10/01-16

Having a scan seems more friendly than a body cavity search.  If you find it humiliating to have a body scan simply don’t get on a plane.  Drive or stay home, one more seat for someone else on these over booked flights.  Take all the pictures you want of me when I fly.  So what if I got a glass eye, a pacemaker, a big penis with piercings, man boobs, a fat ass, a bag to pee in or all of the preceding on my body, whatever.  Get over yourself, you are a human and only God is perfect.  All of us have some kind of weird thing about ourselves, none of us should have the capacity to blow up a plane over the non use of technology that can stop this from happening.  Mandatory or selective, this is one case where I could care less- so long as it prevents the plane my family is getting on from falling from the sky.

The Associated Press says that “At least 19 U.S. airports have the scanners,” at http://www.suntimes.com/news/metro/1963465,ohare-airport-full-body-scanners-security-122909.article noting that Chicago’s O’Hare will be getting them mid-year.

I would prefer not to have my fat, x-ray-ed ass posted on the Internet though.  Some sort of deterrent for illicitly copying and distributing the photos should probably be in order, with penalties severe enough to serve as a deterrent.  I wonder who stores the scan at the end of the day, is it now a permanent record, would an agency need a search warrant to use it in a court of law, etc., still some questions linger.

I do see how the Pre-screening programs could be opportunities to find criminals.  Um, if that is a by product of better technology- so what?  Behind thousands on your child payments? A bad guy out on parole an not reporting?  Wanted on a felony?  Too frickin’ bad, don’t get anywhere near an airport unless you are a law abiding citizen.  Flying is a privilege not a right.   We’re not talking about an overdue library card or a bunch of parking tickets.  Look, finding criminals is not the intention behind scanning some one’s behind for problematic devices, but if it gets them away from being another potential public threat- then so be it.

Take the extra billions in stimulus and stimulate the economy by making it safer.

Smile, someone takes your picture every time you walk into Wal-Mart, Target, Kohl’s, etc.  Got a Sam’s Club Card- your picture is on that.  Our local grocery store, in order to cash a payroll check, now requires not only a photograph but a fingerprint of two fingers, on two hands.  Every parent/grandparent/guardian/teacher and janitor at our local school is required to undergo a background check and be fingerprinted before walking in the door.

If the private sector can match up your face to what you buy, to how often you visit, then the government ought to take every preventable measure to stop terrorism in it’s tracks  NOW, or hire the programmers at Wal-Mart to do it for them.

UPDATED August 5, 2010.  Now we know who stores the scan at the end of the day, the TSA!  The U.S. Marshals Service too.

The TSA apparently requires all airport body scanners it purchases to be able to store and transmit images for “testing, training, and evaluation purposes.” (PDF)

A 70-page document (PDF) showing the TSA’s procurement specifications, classified as “sensitive security information,” says that in some modes the scanner must “allow exporting of image data in real time” and provide a mechanism for “high-speed transfer of image data” over the network.

The TSA maintains that body scanning is perfectly constitutional: “The program is designed to respect individual sensibilities regarding privacy, modesty and personal autonomy to the maximum extent possible, while still performing its crucial function of protecting all members of the public from potentially catastrophic events.”

Peak air travel season, and the U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY Transportation Security Administration changing the aviation rules for passengers, at least until December 30, 2009.

On Dec. 25, 2009, an individual on board Northwest Airlines Flight 253 set off a device and was subdued by passengers and crew. TSA wishes to acknowledge the heroic efforts of those individuals.  {sic- did they forget his name?}

As a result of this incident, TSA has worked with airline and law enforcement authorities, as well as federal, state, local, and international partners to put additional security measures in place to ensure aviation security remains strong. Passengers traveling domestically and internationally to U.S. destinations may notice additional screening measures. http://www.tsa.gov/press/happenings/dec25_guidance.shtm

New security measures introduced by the US Transport Security Administration for all flights into the US include pat-down searches at the airport gate, physical inspection of all bags and requiring passengers to stay in their seats without access to any personal items or overhead lockers for the final hour before landing.   http://www.smh.com.au/travel/travel-news/us-orders-body-searches-after-botched-airline-attack-20091228-lgxg.html

So much to that little part in the Constitution that protects you from illegal search and seizure.

The following is the complete text of the US DHS security directive as implemented by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) with text provided by Flying with Fish at http://boardingarea.com/blogs/flyingwithfish/2009/12/27/tsa-security-directive-sd-1544-09-06-the-fallout-from-nw253/

Someone did not do their job to prevent him from getting on the plane in the first place.  We got lucky this time, maybe next time someone will just shove something up their ass for an in-flight incident one hour before landing.  “Luckily, the explosive that was sewn into his underwear — and only caused a minor fire which passengers and crew were able to put out — is extremely hard to ignite. Pentaerythritol tetranitrate, or PETN, is among the “most powerful of explosives,” according to the Times, and was the same explosive that was smuggled aboard by the infamous (and also thwarted) 2001 “shoe bomber,” Richard Reid.  Read more: Averted Northwest Airlines Bomb Was Powerful, But Very Hard to Ignite — Daily Intel http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2009/12/averted_northwest_airlines_bom.html#ixzz0b0QS5Rcl  Wonder if he was wearing boxers or briefs?  Either way we hope his balls got burnt.

For a well educated young man, As a member of an uppercrust Nigerian family, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab received the best schooling, from the elite British International School in West Africa to the vaunted University College London- http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/12/27/umar-farouk-abdulmutallab_n_404512.html, thank God he was too stupid to have done the job right.

A day later, another man from Nigeria is arrested on the same flight 253 from Amsterdam.  The FBI claims the two incidents were not related but having locked himself in a bathroom for over an hour, someone finally broke the door down.  Note he did not have any luggage with him and http://www.debbieschlussel.com/14318/passengers-were-right-fbi-lied-about-second-man-are-they-lying-about-second-flight/ points our more irregularities in the story.

Janet Napolitano on Monday:

“Our system did not work in this instance,” she said on NBC’s “Today” show. “No one is happy or satisfied with that. An extensive review is under way.”

Profile away we say, check your lists a little better, even Santa knows who naughty and nice. “In a story that won’t surprise most, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab has told the FBI that there are many young men just like him in Yemen waiting to attack the planes within or going to the United States.” http://chattahbox.com/us/2009/12/28/umar-farouk-abdulmutallab-tell-fbi-more-like-him-in-yemen/

The 23-year-old Nigerian man who claimed ties to al-Qaeda was charged this Saturday with trying to destroy a Detroit-bound airliner, just a month after his father warned U.S. officials of concerns about his son’s religious beliefs.http://apnews.myway.com/article/20091227/D9CRDL300.html

Imagine the balls it takes to alert authorities to the possibility your own kid is an assassin http://www.rightpundits.com/?p=5226 saying , “According to the local newspaper “Leadership Nigeria” Umar Mutallab, former chairman of First Bank and father of the alleged terrorist, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, had alerted the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the INTERPOL and the Nigerian Intelligence Agency (NIA) to his son’s weird behavior, especially after he sent a disturbing text message from Yemen. Umar Jr relocated to Yemen by late October this year, had sent a curious text to his parents – according to the report.

His father notified not one, but three governments of his son’s odd behavior and possible threat to the U.S.  Did anyone pay attention?  Nope.  Imagine the sadness in his family. If anyone of the three were watching him shame on them for not thwarting this cowardice act.

23 years old.  23 and what do you think you know?  You don’t know shit, you little shit ass. He should have been out having a beer and chasing….well, whatever.

Abdulmutallab appeared on the Terrorist Identities Datamart Environment database maintained by the U.S. National Counterterrorism Center, said a U.S. official who received a briefing. Containing some 550,000 names, the database includes people with known or suspected ties to a terrorist organization. However, it is not a list that would prohibit a person from boarding a U.S.-bound airplane. His name was added to the database in Novembers, according to an administration official who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the investigation that is ongoing….

Virginia-based group that monitors militant messages called attention Saturday to a Dec. 21 video recording from an Al-Qaida Counterterrorism operative in Yemen who warned of a looming bombing in the U.S.

Attempting to kill hundreds on a plane, in the skies, on the ground?  Just where does someone even get  pentaerythritol- the explosive?  Now this formerly wealthy prick can’t afford an attorney and my tax dollars and yours, by the grace of democracy are going to provide one for him.

Just WTF is with our Terrorist Identities Datamart Environment database-that we never heard of until today.  There were unheeded warnings and texts days ahead of time?  Who runs the Terrorist Identities Datamart Environment- TIDE  and Terrorist Identities group ? http://www.nctc.gov/docs/Tide_Fact_Sheet.pdf.  A bunch of but nutts who can not seem to correlate data between departments apparently.

Ringing any 9-11 bells?

From the classified TIDE database, an unclassified, but sensitive, extract is provided to the FBI’s Terrorist Screening Center, which compiles the Terrorist Screening Database (TSDB). This database, in turn, is used to compile various watch lists such as the TSA’s No-fly list, State Department’s Consular Lookout and Support System, Homeland Security’s Interagency Border Inspection System, and FBI’s NCIC (National Crime Information Center) for state and local law enforcement. via http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terrorist_Identities_Datamart_Environment

Throw in Flopping Aces, http://www.floppingaces.net/2009/12/27/napolitano-system-worked-even-tho-bomb-made-it-through-security/

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Sunday that the thwarting of the attempt to blow up an Amsterdam-Detroit airline flight Christmas Day demonstrated that “the system worked.”

Asked by CNN’s Candy Crowley on “State of the Union” how that could be possible when the young Nigerian who has been charged with trying to set off the bomb was able to smuggle explosive liquid onto the jet, Napolitano responded: “We’re asking the same questions.”

Napolitano added that there was “no suggestion that [the suspect] was improperly screened.”

The system worked? You have to be joking. How Napolitano claimed it worked when a man was able to get a bomb on board a plane and almost set it off -were it not for a bad detonator and some heroic passengers?

B I A T C H, YOU SHOULD BE FIRED. If for nothing else the disgraceful comment that the system worked.  IT FAILED.  YOU FAILED.

A half a million people made a list because they have some subjective hate for America and have presented some sort of evidence that they are willing to risk their lives in the process of killing Americans.  Some made this list in error- but this one asshole  gets on a plane to America and attempts detonation.

How many on this TIDE database are boarding today?  Is it an Illuminati government pulling the strings for wars?  We now call bullshit.  There is no one but a bunch of disorganized government employees covering their ass just like in 911.  There may be the technology to read a license plate from space, know what kind and how many cigarettes you smoke and beers you drink, but if no one reports a terrorist driving the truck what use it is it.  Execute McVeigh before all the facts are in and it all goes away.  Except the memories.

“The president certainly has taken steps in his time in office to reorient our priorities as it comes to fighting that war on terror,” Gibbs told NBC. via http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5jmFQzQ0FKifgsloXRVO9_Sym-U1g  REORIENT OUR PRIORITIES?  Give us a break.  Taking steps?  Baby steps perhaps.

Just sickening.

God Bless America and God dangit:  if God doesn’t, somebody better step up to the plate to protect America NOW. Falling between the cracks is a pain in every one’s ass and puts us all at risk.  No amount of Tide is going to be able to clean up the spilled blood of innocent Americans.

Loving our country, just questioning those who run it.

911 Mystery92000DOJTerrorismManual

It would not be appropriate to be a writer and not have something to say on the 8th anniversary of the tragic events of September 11th.  What words are there to convey the immense destruction brought upon U.S. soil?

Pissed off is my choice in words.

Pissed that idiots could not put the pieces together ahead of time to prevent the attacks in the first place.  The Phoenix Memo clearly outlined unheeded warnings about Islamic terrorists training at US flight schools. http://www.thememoryhole.org/911/phoenix-memo/

Pissed that the US Justice Department’s Air Force Manual 10-100: Airman’s Manual, Aug 1999 version, and the manual “Managing Weapons of Mass Destruction Incidents: An Executive Level Program for Sheriffs” which taught local law enforcement how to deal with terrorist attacks were a failure.  In practicing for an event like 911; the simplest statement to issue- “run” would have saved thousands.  Instead, they told people to stay in the buildings.

Twice as pissed that The National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States (also known as the 9-11 Commission) failed miserably to do its job.  http://www.9-11commission.gov/

“I don’t believe any longer that it’s a matter of connecting the dots. I think they had a veritable blueprint, and we want to know why they didn’t act on it.”— Senator Arlen Specter, a Republican member of the joint intelligence committee that investigated 9/11.

“Had one human being or a common group of human beings sat down with all that information, we could have gotten to the hijackers before they flew those four airplanes either into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon or the ground of Pennsylvania.”— Senator Bob Graham, then Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence; Democratic co-chairman of the joint intelligence panel that investigated 9/11

I am pissed that school’s do not teach what happened on 911 other than if you are lucky, on the day of September 11, 2001.  The twin towers poster should be hanging right next to the flag of The United States of America that the children face as they say The Pledge of Allegiance.  Look at it everyday and see the sacrifice.

911wtc

I am pissed that there was no order to fly flags at half mast today in honor and respect of the day.  President Obama ordered that “US flags fly at half-staff at the White House, all public buildings, all military posts, all naval vessels, and diplomatic outposts around the globe until sunset on Sunday to honor Senator Edward M. Kennedy.  http://www.boston.com/news/politics/politicalintelligence/2009/08/obama_orders_fl.html  He’s buried now, flags are back up. So is  my dander.

I am pissed that the media rarely shows the twin towers or any images from September 11.  Too gruesome?  Tuff shit. Play the 911 emergency phone calls, show the planes, play the image of the men and women jumping to their death.  Too inconvenient?  “Never forget – as long as it’s not too bothersome.” said,  Nick Monteleone in the New York Daily News.

I am pissed that ground zero is still a concrete hole in the ground.  While lease holders argue about the name of the building, eight years later, not much has been done.  The NY Port Authority should have made it a park. Period.

I am pissed that no one has convinced me either way that there was, or wasn’t a conspiracy set up by President Bush, Dick Rumsfeld or someone else.  Charlie Sheen has gotten on the band wagon claiming, ” I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with our 44th President of the United States of America, Barack Hussein Obama, while he was out promoting his health care reform initiative.” Focusing on the events of 9/11 and the subsequent investigation—http://www.infowars.com/twenty-minutes-with-the-president/

I am pissed that there is enough evidence that our tax dollars were spent on the C.I.A training Osama Bin Laden, Al Qaeda and the Taliban.  I am pissed at the war with Iraq and now Afghanistan.  Thousands of dead soldiers and civilians.  I know, it’s better to fight there than here- but get in, do your job, get out.  Don’t linger like a fly pestering a camel’s ass.

I am pissed that our President saw fit to bow to a Saudi King.

obama-bow-to-saudi-king

I am pissed that while there can never be complete safety, that America’s borders remain wide open to illegal immigrants, drug dealers and terrorists alike.

“A 2,000 mile state-of-the-art border fence has been estimated to cost between four and eight billion dollars. Costs for a wall that would run the entire length of the border might be as low as $851 million for a standard 10-foot prison chain link fence topped by razor wire. For another $362 million, the fence could be electrified. A larger 12-foot tall, two-foot-thick concrete wall painted on both sides would run about $2 billion. Initially it was estimated that the San Diego fence would cost $14 million — about $1 million a mile. The first 11 miles of the fence eventually cost $42 million — $3.8 million per mile, and the last 3.5 miles may cost even more since they cover more difficult terrain. An additional $35 million to complete the final 3.5 miles was approved in 2005 by the Department of Homeland Security — $10 million per mile.http://www.globalsecurity.org/security/systems/mexico-wall.htm

It’s would be laughable if it weren’t true.  Sub the job out to a private contractor, create some fukcing jobs and keep our borders safe.

Top it all off, from National Geographic, “Many species, including the mountain lion, find prey and mates via migration corridors that cut through public lands along the 1,950-mile (3,138-kilometer) border. the International League of Conservation Photographers sent a team of world-renowned photographers, writers, and filmmakers to the borderlands as part of a Rapid Assessment Visual Expedition (RAVE), which took place between January 25 and February 17, 2009. They returned with thousands of images—some of them presented here http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2009/04/photogalleries/us-mexico-border-fence-wildlife/

Now I am really pissed.  Boo hoo for the poor cat that can’t come over the border.  Humpty Dumpty sat on a fence.  The photographers should be sentenced to sit there for the same amount of time documenting the human trafficking, drug trafficking, gun trafficking, and illegal entry of who knows potentially carrying either Swine Flu or some weapon of mass destruction.

Last thing, the thing that pissed me off the most.  I am pissed this day to be recognized as a National Day of Service and Remembrance .  How much of our money is going to be spent on taxpayer-funded grants for projects?

You ought to be pissed off too.

999nasty

Nine hundred and ninety-nine is the natural number following following nine hundred ninety-eight and preceding one thousand. It is also a  Kaprekar number. For example, 999 is a Kaprekar number for base 10, because 999² = 998001, which can be split into 998 and 001, and 998 + 001 = 999.  It is also the largest 3 digit whole number in base 10. The Year 999 (CMXCIX) was a common year of the Julian Calendar.

Seeing as the Devil is a sneaky deceiver, will 999,  September 9, 2009 be a day of prophecy?  999 upside down is 666.

Someone in the Netherlands has come up with World Interconnectedness Day on 999, saying, http://www.interconnectedness090909.org/  “090909 in every country at 9 AM in every time zone (starting in New Zealand), all people who are aware of interconnectedness and who are committed to translate that awareness into action are invited to practice interconnectedness as much as possible throughout that day.”

“At 9AM (local time) churches, mosques, synagogues all around the world proclaim for 9 minutes to remind every human being, that we all share this planet and time,-that we all need to care for each other and reach out to each other,-no matter what culture, religion, age, gender, colour, tribe, political party, economic status we have. We all need each other.”

http://999itstime.org/ offers more liberal crap saying “we are in a state of emergency- socially, economically and ecologically” so please put aside 9 minutes of your time on 999 Day to join us in taking the following three actions, which should take approximately 3 minutes each. 1. Switch to green energyhttp://www.realpeoplepower.org/ . 2. Cut your emissions 10% and join up with 10:10 movement http://www.1010uk.org/ . 3.  Plant a tree. http://www.tree-nation.com/

Gag me. I don’t want to be connected, and I am tired of  America being relied upon to save the world.  How many zillions of dollars and manpower have been spent in other nations- including Muslim ones, only to have shoes thrown at our President and public displays of America’s Flag burning?  How many nations relied upon the blood of American Soldiers in history?  In this New World Order we keep hearing about, President Obama better wake up to the fact that we need to make America, America’s priority.

Even under a State of Public Emergency,  thanks to the H1N1 Novel Swine Flu Pandemic- America’s borders remain open.  Ellis Island and The Statue of Liberty have welcomed millions through the department of immigration while others cross an invisible border to scourge America’s resources illegally.  The War on Drugs, The War on Terror- mostly due to the failure of America to protect itself.

NAFTA, Free Trade, Free access to loot America.  Put your little pinky toe over the border illegally, and it should get shot off with out spending my tax dollars.  No free rides to take you to the best hospitals in the world either.

From Prison Planet – “The deaths we inflict and the pain and suffering we bring to others are merely collateral damage on the bloody path to American hegemony.” http://www.prisonplanet.com/us-hypocrisy-astonishes-the-world.html Fukc you too.  Don’t like being in the greatest country on earth?  Get the fukc out and go live in Afghanistan for awhile.

People of all nations immigrate to the greatest land in the world because they are free.  The assault of 911, when bastards hijacked airplanes and tried to hijack American values still did not assail the fortitude of the American people.  How many people are opting to disavow US Citizenship? Good riddance to those who do- like the President of American Greetings who just moved to Israel.  Here’s an American Greeting for ya, don’t let the door hit you in the ass.

While 911 is the emergency dialing code in the U.S., and the date intentionally chosen to murder thousands of people,  999 is the emergency phone number in the U.K. One must have some concern for the possibility of another attack from Al Qaeda or some other whacko terrorist group.

With chaos raining and an order grounding all flight travel in the U.S after 911, “With the help of the FBI, the Saudis and the bin Laden family chartered an aircraft to pick up family members in Los Angeles, Orlando, and Washington, D.C. The bin Laden plane then flew the relatives to Boston, where — one week after the attacks — the group left Logan Airport bound for Jeddah.http://www.nationalreview.com/york/york091102.asp

Rest assured that there are members of the  bin Laden family who would not hesitate take advantage of 999.  The National Review at the time went on to note, “That family had been looked at very, very carefully in the two-year period leading up to September 11,” after the al Qaeda bombings of American embassies in East Africa, said retired CIA official Vince Cannistraro.”

Whether 999 is an auspicious omen or not, remains to be seen.  Rather than succumbing to the the bullshit indoctrination of  “Think Globally act Locally” you can visit an old fashioned sideshow on tour featuring several live human oddities at http://www.999eyes.com/

The band 999 http://www.nineninenine.net/ has some interesting sounds. Photo props to them from a cd cover.

“Number nine. Number nine. Number nine.”The repetitive refrain from one of The Beatles’ most mind-bending journeys into psychedelia “Revolution 9,” the audio pastiche from “The White Album” is now serving as the backbeat of a big day for the biggest band in rock ‘n’ roll history http://showbiz.peacefmonline.com/news/200909/26174.php

For a thrill, there is the 999 probably the best streetbike Ducati has ever produced. http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/101/398/Motorcycle-Article/2003-Ducati-999.aspx

Zed Power again reminds us that “At 9:00 AM on September 9th, 2009 is the day of interconnectedness. A day for steeping yourself in world energies. Tilt the world axis. Put a little peace into the planetary awareness.”At 9:00 AM on September 9th, 2009 is the day of interconnectedness. A day for steeping yourself in world energies. Tilt the world axis. Put a little peace into the planetary awareness.” http://www.zedpower.net/090909/

From http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread330653/pg1 forum on 999- “as long as we are alive and kicking on this planet there will be an infinite amount of numerical and date related scenarios for one to ponder.”

There is always the 2012 doomsday conspiracy, when the long count calendar of the Ancient Mayans ends on December 21, 2012.

We know that you knew, that they knew, you know?

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Israeli intelligence Aman, and others warned with credible evidence of a major attack on the United States prior to September 11, 2001. THE WMD Guidebook show here was in use prior to 911.  In Pakistan and other Muslim countries they believe that the attacks were part of an Israeli conspiracy, but there is little doubt that it was Osama bin Laden and his Al-Qaeda network who were responsible for the attacks.

Diligence or luck has prevented another attack on U.S. Soil even though VP Joe Biden has predicted that within six months of his administration, Obama would be tested just as John F. Kennedy was.  This is day 101.

You “Watch, we’re gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy,” Biden said. “And he’s gonna have to make some really tough — I don’t know what the decision’s gonna be, but I promise you it will occur. As a student of history and having served with seven presidents, I guarantee you, it’s gonna happen.” http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/10/20/1572652.aspx

The current crisis is Obama having declassified and released memos detailing the programs used to question al Qaeda suspects. Is water boarding torture, did it violate U.S. and international laws?  Has Obama has endangered the country by releasing CIA secrets.  Contradicting himself, he also said he would not necessarily oppose an effort to pursue a “further accounting” and investigation into the Bush-era interrogation program that included waterboarding, sleep deprivation, forced nudity, shoving people into walls and other methods.  You want to bet we’ll see a full blown investigation of the CIA Interrogation program that reveals more secrets for the terrorists to use against us?

Even Donald Rumsfeld on a Larry King Interview prior to 911 said, “Well, we have to recognize that it’s a dangerous and untidy world. There’s a lot of very powerful, lethal weapons that exist and ways that people can impose enormous damage. And we have to be vigilant. We have to be willing to invest to see that we have the kinds of capabilities that we can deter and defend and, where necessary, preempt. ” http://www.september11news.com/Mysteries3.htm  He went on to mention that on the morning of 911 he predicted there would be an event that would occur in the world that would be sufficiently shocking that it would remind people, again, how important it is to have a strong, healthy Defense Department that contributes — that underpins peace and stability in our world.”

I call foul. Everyone knew something was about to happen and all that Intel slipped through the cracks allowing the most horrific attack on U.S. soil since Japan bombed Pearl Harbor.  Bush had more faulty Intel on Iraq.  We caught a few bad guys and even released some but when some piss ants cry foul about how we treat (-ed) enemy combatants, you have to wonder what information was gathered to prevent further incidents.  Why are members of Congress are doing a tight wire dance to relieve themselves of any association with interrogation procedures that not only did they know about, but worked.

From the Herald Tribune today, http://www.heraldtribune.com/article/20090422/ARTICLE/904221065?Title=In-embrace-of-harsh-tactics-no-inquiry-into-their-past In 2002, “As was common with the most secret programs, the C.I.A. chose not to brief the entire committees about the interrogation methods but only the so-called Gang of Four — the top Republican and Democrat on the Senate and House committees. The rest of the committee members would be fully briefed only in 2006.” The 2002 Gang of Four briefings left a hodgepodge of contradictory recollections that, to some Congressional staff members, reveal a dysfunctional oversight system. Without full staff support, few lawmakers are equipped to make difficult legal and policy judgments about secret programs, critics say.

Representative Nancy Pelosi of California, who in 2002 was the ranking Democrat on the House committee, has said in public statements that she recalls being briefed on the methods, including waterboarding. She insists, however, that the lawmakers were told only that the C.I.A. believed the methods were legal — not that they were going to be used.  By contrast, the ranking Republican on the House committee at the time, Porter J. Goss of Florida, who later served as C.I.A. director, recalls a clear message that the methods would be used. “We were briefed, and we certainly understood what C.I.A. was doing,” Mr. Goss said in an interview. “Not only was there no objection, there was actually concern about whether the agency was doing enough.”  http://www.reuters.com/article/politicsNews/idUSTRE53J6MS20090422?sp=true  He said, she said- they all knew it was going on and although morally reprehensible, legal.

Intel and congress knew attacks were imminent.  Intel and congress knew exactly what was happening at Guantanamo.  Peter J. Goss has the balls to actually admit that the information they got from torture, prevented further plans to destroy and attack America.    If acts of mental and physical ability to resist, resulted in saving American lives and halting the spread of terrorism, then so be it and Goss should be looked at as a hero not a scapegoat.

At the very least, if Obama wants to declassify details of the programs, he needs to declassify the findings as well.  By all accounts they acted legally within the interpretation of the law. I don’t have to like how they did it, but any future terrorist now knows that torture will not be a part of a deterrent to committing crimes against America.

Transparency in America shouldn’t be good for the terrorists.

Russia is putting it’s foot down and it isn’t in a gentle way.

” Kyrgyzstan’s president said Tuesday his country is ending U.S. use of an air base key to military operations in Afghanistan- a decision with potentially grave consequences for U.S. efforts to put down surging Taliban and al-Qaida violence.

A U.S. military official in Afghanistan called President Kurmanbek Bakiyev’s statement “political positioning” and denied the U.S. presence at the Manas air base would end anytime soon.   The United States is preparing to deploy an additional 15,000 troops in Afghanistan and Manas is an important stopover for U.S. material and personnel.

Ending U.S. access would be a significant victory for Moscow in its efforts to squeeze the United States out of Central Asia, home to substantial oil and gas reserves and seen by Russia as part of its strategic sphere of influence.” From AP http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/E/EU_RUSSIA_KYRGYZSTAN_US_BASE?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2009-02-03-12-49-12

Well isn’t that just special?  The Russians come, play war games and poke at us with Cuba and Venezuela in the Caribbean Sea, right off the U.S. coastline, and now want to end American presence at a key base just as we are about to increase troop presence.  Such timing.

Just this weekend (Feb 1,09)Near the Pakistan/ Afghan border lies the Swat Valley, where the Taliban and Al Qaeda have traditionally had their strongholds.  17 people were killed in fighting  and the military recently vowed to reinvigorate its efforts where Taliban fighters have set up their own courts, destroyed scores of girls’ schools and reportedly driven out hundreds of thousands of residents.  Swat is less than 100 miles (160 kilometers) from Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad.  http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,486388,00.html

Yesterday (Feb 2, 09)  Gunmen kidnapped an American U.N. worker and killed his driver in southwestern Pakistan on Monday, underscoring the security threat in a country wracked by al-Qaida violence and rising criminality.  http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/news/2009/02/gunmen_kidnap_american_un_official_in_pakistan.php John Solecki, the head of the U.N. refugee office in the city of Quetta was abducted as he traveled to work.

Vice President Joe Biden says the nation should expect more U.S. military casualties.  Pentagon officials say they plan to send up to 30,000 additional troops to the Afghan war, where the Taliban is resurgent and violence has been on the rise.

Biden said Sunday that additional U.S. forces will be engaging the enemy more. Asked if that means the U.S. public should expect more American casualties, the vice president said: “I hate to say it, but yes, I think there will be. There will be an uptick.”   From CBS’ “Face the Nation.” http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/01/25/biden-on-afghanistan-expe_n_160689.html

An uptick?  Frig your uptick- everyone of those numbers has a name Mr. Biden and no matter one’s opinion of GWB, he never referred to any soldier so insignificantly as being an uptick.  With that said…

The United States set up the Manas base in Kyrgyzstan and a base in neighboring Uzbekistan after the September 2001 terror attacks, to back operations in Afghanistan. Uzbekistan expelled U.S. troops from the base on its territory in 2005 in a dispute over human rights issues, leaving Manas as the only U.S. military facility in the region.

Russia has long been suspicious of the U.S. presence in what it considers its strategic backyard and agreed Tuesday to provide Kyrgyzstan with $2 billion in loans plus another $150 million in financial aid.

Russia also uses a military airbase at Kant, Kyrgyzstan.

The United States currently pumps a total of $150 million into Kyrgyzstan’s economy annually, including $63 million in rent for Manas, Petraeus said last month. http://wire.antiwar.com/2009/02/03/kyrgyzstan-closing-us-base-key-to-afghan-conflict/

No one in the Obama administration has referred to the term, “the war on terror,”  yet the effort to stop terror continues, rightfully so -but at the cost of an uptick of human life.  http://icasualties.org/oef/ and here http://www.unknownnews.net/casualties.html .

It becomes difficult to absorb the fact that we can not, “Get” the bad guys when Google Earth http://earth.google.com/ has released it’s next generation technology that pretty much enables anyone to see a fly on a camel’s ass- anywhere, any time.

French officer Maj. Pierre-Henri Bunel said, “The truth is, there is no Islamic army or terrorist group called Al Qaida. And any informed intelligence officer knows this. But there is a propaganda campaign to make the public believe in the presence of an identified entity representing the ‘devil’ only in order to drive the ‘TV watcher’ to accept a unified international leadership for a war against terrorism. The country behind this propaganda is the US and the lobbyists for the US war on terrorism are only interested in making money.”

Ain’t that a kick in the ass if he is telling the truth?

I miss old Dean Martin.
