Are there UFO’s at The Cotopaxi Volcano Ecuador, the fifth highest active volcano in the world? Find out more facts about it from http://www.volcanolive.com/cotopaxi.html.
Stéphane Guisard made a time lapse video catching odd objects amidst the night sky. They are probable satellites, shooting stars and maybe even airplanes making white streaks shooting toward the volcano. At about 1:20 there are distinct white flares or streaks coming from the land going up into the atmosphere.
UFO’s? I don’t know. It just strikes me odd that they are shooting up, appearing as if they came up from the earth. “Ready for take off Mr. Spock?,” asks Captain Kirk.
Explanation: What’s happening above the Cotopaxi volcano in Ecuador? Quite a bit, from the looks of the above one-night, time-lapse movie, taken earlier this month. The majestic volcano is first seen through breaks in fast moving clouds as the movie begins. Soon the clouds have dissipated and a sky filled with stars seems to rotate about the snow-peaked volcano’s peak. The band of our Milky Way Galaxy, the dark Coal Sack nebula, and the Southern Cross can all be seen overhead. Satellites streak by from several directions. Soon thin clouds roll by and seem to make the brightest stars sparkle. On the volcano (starting at about 1:13 of the movie), the lights of climbers flash. Near the end of the movie, a bright airplane passes over the peak with a residual trail seen drifting away.

As Arizona’s immigration policy does what the federal government won’t, The Department of Homeland Security has now declared a Terror Alert along the Mexico U.S. border.
The Department of Homeland Security is alerting Texas authorities to be on the lookout for a suspected member of the Somalia-based Al Shabaab terrorist group who might be attempting to travel to the U.S. through Mexico, a security expert who has seen the memo tells FOXNews.com. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/05/26/terror-alert-mexican-border/
It is akin to an all points bulletin and searching for a needle in a haystack. While your looking for terrorists would you mind stopping a few of those Mexican illegal immigrants who are still flocking to border states like Arizona and Texas. Obama and other elected officials have publicly admitted to not reading the bill, yet cry wolf and ignore the problems.
An administration official confirmed to Fox News that Obama plans to deploy the National Guard troops as needed. Mr. President, with all due respect, “as needed” would be right the frig now. Sending some 1,200 troops is a flea on a camel’s ass- insignificant.
Will the National Guard be stationed right on the line, with bullets in their guns and the authority to defend themselves? Almost certainly not. The border is a “combat zone,” says T.J. Bonner, head of the Border patrol agents’ union, too dangerous even for Border Patrol. http://usactionnews.com/2010/05/americans-fleeing-border-invasion-obama-dithers/
It has gotten so bad that Americans are leaving fleeing their homes to get away from the border.
Pinal County sheriff’s Lt. Tamatha Villar says the deputy suffered a superficial wound to his abdomen after being shot with an AK-47 assault rifle Friday afternoon.
Shot by an AK-47. I doubt the police or any farmer is packing an AK-47 for protection and enforcement. Don’t go and blame the 2nd amendment and gun retailers.
We’ve got the war on drugs, war on terror, war in Afghanistan, war in Iraq and a czar for everything except the U.S. Mexican border and the Deepwater Horizon Oil Clean up. Oh wait, we don’t need another czar, we need a President who does something to fix the problems. NOW.
We are getting the “The change you can believe in,” alright. Changes like the President of the United States of America acquiescing to a foreign leader’s interference in the affairs of sovereign Arizona and bowing to Kings and Queens. He is holding his first press conference in over a year later today. http://voices.washingtonpost.com/postpartisan/2010/05/what_obama_has_to_do_at_todays.html
The Modular Aerial Spray System on Air Force Reserve Command C-130 aircraft
These planes are being loaded with dispersants to quell the oil spill in the Gulf. Obama is scheduled to visit New Orleans on Friday, but his handlers may alter his plans due to the area being, ” hazardous to his health.”
The U.S. Coast Guard has pulled commercial fishing boats from oil cleanup efforts in Breton Sound off the Louisiana coast after several people became ill. The Coast Guard says crew members on three vessels reported nausea, dizziness, headaches and chest pains Wednesday afternoon. Four people were hospitalized, including one who was flown to a hospital.
While in Youngstown, Obama said, “..sometimes in Washington, everybody is spending all their time arguing about politics and you lose track of the folks who sent you there in the first place. And so it’s important for me to meet you directly and hear your concerns and your hopes and your dreams.”

The National Guard is headed for the Mexican U.S. border.http://www.nationalguard.com/ President Obama in his infinite wisdom or, from reading the Nation’s leading poll’s supporting Arizona’s immigration law( http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/obama_administration/daily_presidential_tracking_poll ) is sending troops. It is not so obvious that it is for immigration control, as the Mexican Embassy point out that troops will be on guard against the illegal flows of weapons and bulk cash into Mexico, which provide organized crime with its firepower and its ability to corrupt.
Regarding the Administration’s decision to send 1,200 National Guard servicemen to the US Southern border, the Government of Mexico trusts that this decision will help to channel additional US resources to enhance efforts to prevent the illegal flows of weapons and bulk cash into Mexico, which provide organized crime with its firepower and its ability to corrupt.
Additionally, the Government of Mexico expects that National Guard personnel will strengthen US operations in the fight against transnational organized crime that operates on both sides of our common border and that it will not, in accordance to its legal obligations, conduct activities directly linked to the enforcement of immigration laws.
Mexico is determined to continue working on its side of the border to enhance the security and well-being of border communities, and to deter and dismantle organized crime and its links to drug trafficking and human smuggling.
As part of our joint strategy in the fight against transnational organized crime, there are actions that our two governments have undertaken together, and there are other measures taken independently by Mexico and by the US within their respective territories. In this regard, the Mexican Government fully respects the sovereign decisions of the US Government, but underscores that joint responsibility must continue to underpin our joint efforts in rolling-back transnational organized crime operating on both sides of the border.
As the commander-in-chief, I believe he is supposed to be in charge of the Nation’s Military, not states National Guard troops. Others are of the same opinion:
“There is no modern precedent for Congress to direct the president to deploy troops in the manner sought by the Amendment,” National Security Adviser James Jones and Homeland Security and Counterterrorism Adviser John Brennan wrote to Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin (D-Mich.)
“It represents unwarranted interference with the Commander-in-Chief’s responsibilities to direct the employment of our Armed Forces and thus infringes on the President’s role in the management of the Total Force,” they wrote. USARNORTH conducts Homeland Defense and Civil Support operations, and Theater Security Cooperation activities, as the U.S. Northern Command Joint Force Land Component Command and the Army Service Component Command in order to protect the American people and their way of life.
We have U.S. Servicemen and women on active duty on U.S. soil in violation of Posse Comitatus. If we are breaking protocol anyway, why not get it over with and send the military to secure the border with Mexico? “…to protect the American people and their way of life!”
JTF-CS anticipates, plans and integrates USNORTHCOM chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and high-yield explosive (CBRNE) consequence management operations, and when directed, establishes command and control of DOD forces in response to a CBRNE incident to assist local authorities in saving lives, preventing further injury and providing temporary critical support.
As much as I am against active duty troops on our soil, if they are going to be here, then utilize them here. Don’t wait for another terrorist act to occur. Post 9-11, the security of our nation remains at risk. JTF-CS if so ordered would restore at least some sanity to our border, while of course pissing Mexico off. Tough. Rumor has it that there are plenty of Russian troops on U.S Soil, perhaps they’d lend a hand too. http://www.resistnet.com/forum/topics/alert-russian-troops-in-us-for
Our borders are being overwhelmed by Mexican people crossing into the greatest country on earth, illegally. We are fighting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. North Korea and South Korea are playing a deadly game of tit for tat, and China’ aggression towards the U.S. has been pretty clear while it remains our largest debt holder. Oil is spilling by thousand’s of gallons every day.
Besides the multiple crisis we are battling, this weekend is Memorial Day, the day we honor our nation’s dead military personnel. The president previously confused Memorial Day with Veteran’s Day. “Someone might want to explain to the President that it is a little difficult to say “thank you” or send care packages to the deceased.” http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2257872/posts
On Monday, Obama is scheduled to participate in a Memorial Day ceremony at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Ill. In Obama’s absence, Vice President Joe Biden will participate in the customary wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery outside Washington.
Obama may be President, even though he still has not provided a birth certificate proving he is eligible. Still, it is pretty un-American for The President to not lay the traditional wreath at Arlington Cemetary. What can you expect from the man who couldn’t bother to put his hand on his heart during The Pledge of Allegiance?

There is no ashfall being reported although there is still some steam and the earthquakes have subsided a bit. We are still seeing seismic activity creeping towards Katla as we reported previously this week at https://ahrcanum.wordpress.com/2010/05/22/icelands-katla-volcano-recent-earthquakes/ There were two mild tremors detected in the last 24 hours near the Katla volcano.
Earthquakes Subsiding, May 25, 2010
Who turned off the volcano’s switch? A few days ago there was no end in sight.
Scientists have several ways of forecasting when the Eyjafjallajökull eruption will stop. But their data – and history – suggest the Iceland volcano’s ash cloud could persist for some time…The rumblings of small earthquakes can suggest that magma is still welling up from the bowels of the earth, feeding the eruption. The distension of the mountain itself – measured through global positioning system devices – can also provide hints as to whether the volcano is swelling or deflating. As of last week, scientists were still measuring dozens of small earthquakes beneath the volcano, suggesting that no end was in sight. http://www.truthout.org/iceland-volcano-ash-cloud-when-will-eyjafjallaj%C3%B6kull-eruption-stop59600
No end in sight but something is going on inside? Maybe something is going on outside. HAARP, CERN, FERMI and similar particle physics labs were doing the usual. There were no reports out of the ordinary unless, you call teleportation ordinary.
Bob and Alice Photons Teleport 10 Miles
Scientists in China have succeeded in teleporting information between photons further than ever before. They transported quantum information over a free space distance of 16 km (10 miles), much further than the few hundred meters previously achieved, which brings us closer to transmitting information over long distances without the need for a traditional signal.http://www.physorg.com/news193551675.html
Could it transmit a signal deep into the earth to cause an earthquake? Could the energy of a photon, atom or a HAARP array have the power to move energy from one volcano to another? Say to maybe Costa Rica?
(PhysOrg.com) http://www.physorg.com/news193990952.html — By demonstrating how a single artificial atom can be used to amplify electromagnetic waves, physicists from Japan are opening up new possibilities for quantum amplifiers, which can be used in a variety of electronic and optical applications.
Amplified electromagnetic waves?!?We already know HAARP’s high-frequency radio waves can accelerate electrons in the atmosphere, increasing the energy of their collisions. https://ahrcanum.wordpress.com/2009/10/16/earthquake-haarp-connection-evidence/ Now we are now talking about an Atom possibly having the same ability to amplify electromagnetic waves, if not into the atmosphere certainly here on earth..
Maybe the author is right, maybe he is wrong. Should we just take off our tinfoil hats and be happy that a major volcanic eruption in Iceland just stopped?
Can’t help but thinking:
David Rockefeller said, “All we need is the right major crisis and the nations will accept the New World Order.” Rahm Emanuel said, “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste. And what I mean by that is an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.” In the Project for a New American Century document Rebuilding America’s Defenses: Strategy, Forces and Resources for a New Century we find the following: “Further, the process of transformation, even if it brings revolutionary change, is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event – like a new Pearl Harbor. http://www.conspiracyarchive.com/
For now, one catalyzing event that grounded air travel over much of Europe seems to be over. Too bad we can’t teleport in time to fix a whole lot of what is wrong in the world.

The Deepwater Horizon Spill in the Gulf Coast has become a cluster cluck. President Obama, a month after the leak started has decided that we now need a special commission headed by Ken Salazar, while Lisa P. Jackson, EPA Chief is headed back to the region for her third trip. http://dailycaller.com/2010/05/23/epa-chief-to-return-to-gulf-coast-to-monitor-spill/
The oil continues to flow, although BP is allegedly siphoning off some of the oil underground. BP claims 5,000 gallons per day since April 13 and finally a month later on May 20, it has been decided that the federal government will come up with its own determination of how much oil is gushing in the Gulf. Perhaps it should take its own water samples too.
The EPA gave BP it’s okay to use chemical dispersants in an effort to corral and degrade some of the oil last week. By Thursday, the EPA issued a directive for BP to stop using the controversial Corexit dispersal chemical within 24 hours. https://ahrcanum.wordpress.com/2010/05/21/dispersants-epa-stops–
BP’s response was a pungent reminder of who is in charge, and it most certainly is not the EPA or and branch of the government. BP issued a terse reply, saying it would continue to use the controversial chemical Corexit despite the directive. BP officials believe that the leading alternative product, Sea Brat could pose a bigger risk over the long term.
C-130H Aerial Spraying
NotanotherCONspiracy points out that the government has been spraying “stuff” for years and likely could, would, and may have sprayed the Gulf to attempt to break up the oil.
A U.S. Air Force Reserve C-130 Hercules from the 910th Airlift Wing at Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Ohio, sprays Dibrom, a pesticide approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency …http://www.notanotherconspiracy.com/search/?q=chemtrails
Democratic strategist James Carville and MSNBC anchor Chris Matthews, two reliable supporters of President Barack Obama, have issued withering critiques of the administration’s handling of the Gulf oil spill. Carville, the famously outspoken Louisianian who was a chief political aide to Bill and Hillary Clinton, told CNN’s Anderson Cooper on Thursday that the administration’s response to the spill has been “lackadaisical” and that Obama was “naive” to trust BP to manage the massive clean-up effort. Video and full text at http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/05/21/obama-faces-new-wave-of-c_n_585620.html
“The government should have stepped in and not just taken BP’s word,” declared Wayne Stone of Marathon, Fla., an avid diver who worries about the spill’s effect on the ecosystem….As simple as it may seem, the law prevents the government from just taking over, Allen said. After the 1989 Exxon Valdez spill in Alaska, Congress dictated that oil companies be responsible for dealing with major accidents – including paying for all cleanup – with oversight by federal agencies. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/05/22/frustration-mounts-as-oil_n_585913.html
Oversight by Federal Agencies- how laughable. Really, what’s one more law or promise broken by the government?
We do not have transparency from BP nor the EPA, nor do we have control over the cleanup. For heaven’s sake, some environmental group decided that throwing human hair on the slicks would help. BP has declined the offer. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=127041062&ft=1&f=1025 (Human hair does help keep deer away from gardens though.)
BP chief Tony Hayward told the Associated Foreign Press, “everything we can see at the moment suggests that the overall environmental impact will be very, very modest.”
By comparison, the death count of sea critters so far seems small. With nearly 20% of the Gulf closed to fishing, a fish kill would most likely never be documented in the open waters, only what is witnessed on shore.
It doesn’t just take a cold snap or an oil spill to close beaches. How about a birds nest? A shorebird called a tern laid a single egg in Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The result:
Three favored off-road beaches and fishing spots – Cape Point in Buxton, South Ocracoke and the Bodie Island Spit at Oregon Inlet – were effectively closed to prepare for expected shorebird breeding. Large buffer zones preclude access by pedestrians and vehicles. http://hamptonroads.com/node/464263
One little egg is going to devastate tourism in parts of the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Maybe the state can ask for a bailout like every other whiny piss-ant governor. Florida has asked BP for $35 million dollars for tourism advertising. So help me if BP pays one dime for an ad, I am going to flip my lid. How dare Florida, who’s beaches so far haven’t been impacted, ask in the first place?

Iceland’s Eyjafjallajokull last status shows a decline in the ash cloud. The ground continues to rumble and earthquake activity is increasing under the bigger volcano, Katla.
The earthquakes at the Katla volcano site appear to possibly be increasing in frequency as of this moment (time will tell however). Since May 17 there have been four earthquakes at or very near Katla, while a 5th just on the edge of the Myrdalsjokull glacier.
Although 4 or 5 earthquakes at the volcano site in 4 days does not indicate a drastic change in pattern, the interesting notation at the moment is the fact that the two most recent earthquakes occurred within 3 hours of each other on 21 May, 2010, at depths of 5km and 13km. That in itself is an increase in occurrence. It may be an anomaly, but it justifies keeping one eye on Katla, the big sister of Eyjafjallajokull.
There is some correlation between earthquakes and the prediction of an eruption, but they are unreliable. Wouldn’t it be nice to know how to predict when a volcano will stop erupting? In Hawaii, the world’s longest erupting volcano, Kilauea began erupting 10,000 days ago yesterday. It began erupting January 23, 1983 and has no end in sight. Blogger Leigh Hilbert lives near the volcano and has daily updates and fabulous photos- http://hawaiianlavadaily.blogspot.com/2010/05/hawaii-volcanoes-national-park.html. I wish we could send him to Iceland for awhile to make the comparisons between the two and to provide better photos than we are getting from the press there. Are there no professional photographers in Iceland?

The Deepwater Horizon Oil spill or leak as BP calls it, is a disaster of epic proportion. The response by the EPA is equally to blame in the approval of two chemical dispersants by BP, and it’s reliance soley on BP to clean it up and provide water samples.
Saturday May 15, 2010-“Based on the scientific analysis of the EPA and NOAA and review by the National Response Team, it has been determined that the use of dispersants at the subsea source is the prudent and responsible action to take along with other tactics including surface dispersant, skimming and controlled burns.” http://www.deepwaterhorizonresponse.com/go/doc/2931/551271/
COREXIT products clearly state that they are not to be used on surface water and are toxic to wildlife. And that, “It is unknown if dispersed oil has toxic implications to the human population because bioaccumulation through the food chain has not been evaluated.” http://www.epa.gov/bpspill/dispersants.html#q3
It was not prudent and responsible to approve these particular products, and now in a reverse course, EPA is revoking its decision.
The Environmental Protection Agency informed BP officials late Wednesday that the company has 24 hours to choose a less-toxic form of chemical dispersants to break up its oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, according to government sources familiar with the decision, and must apply the new form of dispersants within 72 hours of submitting the list of alternatives.
The move is significant, because it suggests federal officials are now concerned that the unprecedented use of chemical dispersants could pose a significant threat to the Gulf of Mexico’s marine life. BP has been using two forms of dispersants, Corexit 9500A and Corexit 9527A, and so far has applied 600,000 gallons on the surface and 55,000 underwater.http://views.washingtonpost.com/climate-change/post-carbon/2010/05/epa_demands_less_toxic_dispersant.html
Capacity to make change? Change you can believe in?
Let me think, who else is from Chicago that I can think of? Blagojevich, Wright, Ayers, President Obama. The biggest oil spill in the world has taken place under Obama’s reign and it took him days to hold a conference with administration officials and eleven days to go see for himself. http://seminal.firedoglake.com/diary/45025
May 20, 2010 (GlobeNewswire via COMTEX) –Nalco (NYSE:NLC) today issued the following statement:We are gratified that the EPA has acknowledged that the use of Nalco’s dispersants has been effective and has had no undue impact on the marine environment. As the agency noted on its website today: “Toxicity data does not indicate any significant affects on aquatic life. Moreover, decreased size of the oil droplets is a good indication that, so far, the dispersant is effective.”
The results can be found at http://www.epa.gov/bpspill/ . To date, approximately 600,000 gallons of dispersant has been used on the surface and approximately 55,000 gallons of dispersant has been used subsurface, at the source of the spill.
Do you smell something fishy?
Nalco claims the products are working just fine with no hazards, yet the EPA is revoking the use of COREXIT? Yep. It boils down to the fact that the government is not happy with BP. In a Letter From Secretary Napolitano and EPA Administrator Jackson to BP CEO Tony Hayward (PDF) they all but accuse BP of adulterating water samples to justify that COREXIT and the sucking up gadget is having a positive effect of the spill.
WHY ISN’T THE EPA TAKING IT’S OWN WATER SAMPLES?
Friday, May 21, 2010 11 a.m. CDT. U.S. Coast Guard Incident Commander Capt. Steven Poulin, U.S. Coast Guard Deputy Incident Commander Capt. Bill Drelling, and BP Incident Commander Keith Seilham of The Deepwater Horizon Response Unified Incident Command, Mobile, Ala., are scheduled to hold a press briefing about ongoing response operations along the Mississippi, Alabama and Florida coasts. http://www.deepwaterhorizonresponse.com/go/doc/2931/557791/ I got tired of listening to the music and hung up after the delayed start, but why wouldn’t the EPA be involved as well?
Salazar implies BP and other oil companies want to lose untold amounts of oil and money on purpose. Gives you that warm fuzzy feeling that more independence will prevent this from happening again. How about a new set of federal reforms that secure our border?

Mount Saint Helen’s volcano erupted thirty years ago today-May 18, 1980. “The devastation erupted so violently that it leveled 150 square miles of trees, sent the mountain’s north face 14 miles down the Toutle River and dropped gray ash around the world.” http://www.usatoday.com/NEWS/usaedition/2010-05-17-mtsthelens17_ST_U.htm?csp=34
The destruction began at 8:32 a.m. on May 18, when the north side of the mountain slid away after two months of intense earthquake activity and weaker eruptions. The landslide uncorked pressurized magma and released a blast so powerful that 1,300 feet of the mountain’s peak collapsed or blew outward, 24 square miles of valley was filled by a debris avalanche, 250 square miles of land was damaged by a lateral blast, and 57 people were killed.
Iceland’s Eyjafjallajokull began the eruption in the same way, with an increase an increase of earthquake activity. Eya continues to erupt and cause disruptions, but no one has died and the lava has not spread 150 miles of devastation. Eya is holding us hostage, not sending us running for cover-at least not yet.
It is Iceland’s other major volcano’s that are becoming increasingly the center of debate. Scientists are predicting decades of ash disruptions and predictions of eruptions from Katla, which lies only 15 miles to the east of Eyjafjallajokull volcanic eruptions.
Lo and behold there was a quake beneath both Hekla on May 16 and Katla, May 17. via The Ice Met Office. Uh, oh.
An eruption at Katla would cause very sudden jökulhlaups (glacier outburst floods). They occurred during the subglacial eruption in Eyjafjallajökull volcano but have slowed. Katla’s ice crater is estimated to be 2,000 feet thick and if she blows, that ice is going to melt fast and quickly wiping out everything in it’s path. It is the fourth largest volcano in Iceland -220 sq. miles (580 sq. km). A large caldera 9 miles (14 km) in diameter underlies the ice.
At least three other big Icelandic volcanoes are building towards an eruption, according to Thor Thordarson, a volcanologist at Edinburgh University. The three other volcanoes cited by Thordarson as being potentially close to a large eruption are Grimsvotn, Hekla and Askja — all of which are bigger than Eyjafjallajokull. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article7127706.ece
Looking ever so peaceful, is the Hekla crater in this 2008 photo by David Adamson. http://picasaweb.google.com/thunder.son Hekla is 75 miles (120 km) east of Reykjavik and last erupted in 2000.
The Institute of Earth Sciences reports, “Hekla is a volcano with special seismic characteristics. During non-eruptive periods it is virtually aseismic, and does not give any obvious long-term or intermediate-term precursory warning before eruptions. The eruption-related seismicity starts only 30-80 minutes before its onset. http://www.earthice.hi.is/page/ies_heklaseismicity
Mount St. Helen’s and Iceland’s Eyjafjallajokull volcanic eruptions gave obvious seismic warning signs far ahead. A quiet Hekla poses a huge challenge for predictability, warnings and safety.
Human curiosity via webcams and tours to view volcano’s are common. Falling to your death in one is not so common. In February 2010, Joseph Bohlig posed for a picture with Mount Rainier in the background when he turned around and took a final step on the cornice and fell to his death.
Though the connections go down pretty often, I’ll stick to the webcams at:
Putting our tinfoil hat back on, we search for any connections between natural physical science and the possibility of man causing volcano’s, earthquakes, tsunami’s and related disasters. A cover-up of some sort? An intervention with HAARP, ESCAT, CERN, etc., and quite possibly the impact on Earth’s magnetosphere from the atmosphere all offer some plausibility. Others would say, God is just ticked off, that some catastrophes are just an, “Act of God.”
One thing for sure, volcano’s and magma’s muscle put humility in man and the power beneath our planet.

The report tells us that oil in water is hazardous to human and aquatic life and makes some suggestions on how to clean it up. Gee thanks, our tax dollars at work as if we didn’t know it was a hazard.
Also on May 15, 2010, The U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) today announced they have authorized BP to use dispersants underwater, at the source of the Deepwater Horizon leak. Oil spill dispersants are chemicals that attempt to break down the oil into small drops and prevent it from reaching the surface or the U.S. shoreline. Dispersants are generally less harmful than the highly toxic oil leaking from the source and they biodegrade in a much shorter time span.
“Based on the scientific analysis of the EPA and NOAA and review by the National Response Team, it has been determined that the use of dispersants at the subsea source is the prudent and responsible action to take along with other tactics including surface dispersant, skimming and controlled burns.” http://www.deepwaterhorizonresponse.com/go/doc/2931/551271/
WARNING! NOT TO BE USED ON SURFACE WATER. Oh so what, the EPA has given its approval to use them on the surface and underwater. The ecotoxicological effects on fish, had them dead within 48 – 96 hours. If the oil doesn’t kill the Gulf of Mexico’s fish, the chemical dispersants likely will. If they do live, who wants to eat them? Dr. Jane Lubchenco the Undersecretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere, NOAA, says she’ll eat them, saying, “Yes, and I would enjoy it.”
It is unknown if dispersed oil has toxic implications to the human population because bioaccumulation through the food chain has not been evaluated. http://www.epa.gov/bpspill/dispersants.html#q3
Did BP ask, or did the EPA order the use of dispersals? On May 10 the EPA asked BP to implement a Dispersed Plume Characterization Plan for Subsurface Dispersant Application. http://www.epa.gov/bpspill/dispersants/subsurface-dispersant-directive-final.pdf This plan relies soley on BP to do the testing and then sending the results to the EPA. How much could it cost for the Coast Guard to do some some of it’s own testing to keep BP honest? What happens if BP doesn’t execute the plan at all?
Officials monitoring the subsea results reported that the first two tests were inconclusive. Logistical problems in obtaining samples down to 5,000 feet prevented proper sampling. A third test is underway, with some samples already in the labs at Louisiana State University reports Global Research. http://globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=19151
Imagine that. The results are inconclusive. I conclude, a dead fish can’t swim upstream.
