Frack baby Frack! Chesapeake Energy has been all over our farm and surrounding counties to determine if there is, ‘gold in them there hills,’ so to speak.

Most of the roads and surrounding land have pink flags to mark off potential areas for seismic testing, in search of underground oil and gas. There are wires laying on the ground and helicopters flying when weather permits. To explain how to testing works, read here.

The technology is amazing. In our rural area we’ve seen a few new above ground wells, new gas lines being installed and one fracking well- though not on our land.

We are exhausted over the debate over the Keystone project. America needs to rely on its own energy resources. Now that President Obama has all but shut down the coal industry and denied numerous permitting on federal land, we must rely on Chesapeake and similar companies to reduce our reliance on foreign oil and gas. Billions of wasted tax dollars to Solyndra and the Chevy Volt reinforce that fact.

As for BP, we’re pretty sure they didn’t want to loose billions in the Gulf disaster, cause the loss of life or create environmental hazards. Between the EPA and a zillion other environmental laws is it any wonder that there is fuel in our cars, heat in our homes, air conditioning to run? Yes there there are risks, but otherwise we’d all freeze to death in the dark- clinging to our bibles and guns.

Energy Secretary Steven Chu Will Soon End His Experiment in Washington. He is expected to be replaced with
Tom Steyer, the head of major hedge fund Farallon Capital Management. More on that

A hedge fund guy to be energy sec? Our confidence level isn’t exactly rising. With news out of Algeria of mass casualties at a natural gas facility.

Whatever your thought on global warming, it’s still winter in much of the USA. The heat and electric are on in most parts and the helicopters are flying, the wires are laying in wait to see what treasures the earth will reveal.

Chesapeake, kinda Made in America.

You thought fracking for oil and gas could be bad? How about the tar sands of Alberta, Canada?

The tar sands cover 141,000 sq km of Alberta. Twenty per cent of this has 174billion recoverable barrels close enough to the surface to be strip-mined.
‘The sheer scale of devastation is almost beyond comprehension. Oily, stained ground stretches for hundreds of miles where there used to be forest’
Ashley Cooper, photographer
This is done by removing the forest and the peaty soil beneath, before gas-heated water is then forced through the tar sand to melt and separate bitumen from the sand and clay.

What a mess. We’ve seen strip mines in the U.S. mostly fully reclaimed but this is a huge effin land mass.

Besides the vast amount of land, is what appears to look like FEMA camps for the workers.

Where are all the employee cars? How come the fence looks like it is built to keep people in, not keep people out?

Who builds these kind of housing? Time to do a stock search. Wanna bet, made in China? Wanna bet that there is an order from FEMA in case of an emergency?

BP Oil Spill Two Years Later, Still in Court, Fish Deformed, a New Oil Slick & Obama’s Slick Solutions

April 20, 2010, began with an explosion 40 miles off shore at The Deepwater Horizon oil rig.  Whether you call it the BP oil spill, the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, the BP oil disaster, the Macondo blowout, the Transocean, Halliburton screwup, it was the largest accidental oil spill in the history of the petroleum industry. The explosion killed 11 men working on the platform and injured 17 others.  Most won’t remember the names, only the fact that for three months oil spewed into the Gulf of Mexico creating a huge environmental and economic disaster.  We remember them here- via http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2010-05-25-oil-spill-victims-memorial_N.htm

 DEEPWATER HORIZON VICTIMS

RIP.

It took until July 15, 2010 to stop the estimated 5 million barrels of crude oil from escaping the gushing wellhead.  What caused it and who was going to pay for it has been lingering ever since.

Unusual pressure readings in the hours before the blowout indicated there was “a very large abnormality” in the well, said a memo released by the House Energy Committee. That suggested that a cement plug, which was supposed to seal off the shaft, had not done so, the memo said.  However, the information was ignored and the drilling crew began removing the drilling mud that was holding back the high-pressure oil and gas. A BP investigator told Congress that the decision was a “fundamental mistake,” according to the memo.

What it comes down to is human error.  Two years later-

BP and a committee representing more than 100,000 plaintiffs have agreed on a blueprint to settle billions of dollars in unresolved economic, property, and medical damage claims….The total cost of the settlement, the company estimates, will reach about $7.8 billion, which makes it one of the largest class-action settlements in U.S. history…The trial has the potential of forcing BP to pay a far greater sum than what was resolved Wednesday. For example, Clean Water Act liabilities could total as much as $17.6 billion….BP has already paid $6 billion to oil spill victims through a $20 billion trust it established last year. The company also says it will provide $57 million to promote Gulf Coast tourism.  http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Justice/2012/0418/BP-oil-spill-settlement-Justice-for-100-000-Gulf-Coast-victims

If you feel like you may have been damaged, the deadline to file claims under the new resolution is April 22, 2014.  At least the big oil players don’t seem in any danger of running out of money anytime soon.

BP reported an improved quarterly profit on Tuesday (Feb. 7, 2012) and said a return of operational momentum has allowed it to boost its dividend.  http://www.cnbc.com/id/46287263/BP_Profit_Jumps_Company_Boosts_Dividend

BP chemical plant
Pat Sullivan / AP
The energy giant posted fourth-quarter replacement cost profit of $7.61 billion, up from $4.61 billion during the same period last year.

BP’s annual report for 2010 notes the firm posted a loss of $3.7 billion, largely due to a total charge of $40.9 billion incurred by the Gulf of Mexico oil spill disaster.  But in the fourth quarter of 2010, BP actually pulled in a profit of $4.4 billion dollars, which has prompted the company to pay a small dividend of 7 U.S. cents on the share to its shareholders for the fourth quarter. This is pretty amazing for a company that was in the cross-hairs of many a politician, environmentalist, and banker for the better part of last year, thanks to its involvement in the worst oil spill disaster in U.S. history.  http://www.fastcompany.com/1722885/bps-profitable-fourth-quarter-oil-spill-what-oil-spill

Halliburton reported net income of $627 million, or 68 cents per share for the first three months of the year. (2012) That compares with $511 million, or 56 cents per share, for the same part of 2011. Revenue increased by 30 percent to $6.87 billion, including a record $4.17 billion in North America.

Shares rose by $1.51, or 4.6 percent, to $34.17.

Halliburton’s results include a $300 million charge related to its role in the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill. The company had provided cementing services for BP PLC on the well that suffered the disastrous blowout. While it continues to spar with BP over who should take responsibility for the disaster, Halliburton said it needs to set aside funds for “probable losses” from future lawsuits and settlements.

BP expects to pay more than $37 billion to cover damages and other costs, and it says Halliburton should pay a share of that. BP has collected several billion dollars from minority owners and other contractors associated with the well. Halliburton maintains that BP, as the well’s owner, is responsible for causing the worst offshore oil spill in U.S. history.  http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5i6ovy8614AK-acxmtP1hE2uRk9pQ?docId=5ac20c7b17db4382ad400f59651fab61

“Halliburton intentionally destroyed the evidence related to its nonprivileged cement testing, in part because it wanted to eliminate any risk that this evidence would be used against it at trial,” the BP filing says.  http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/2011/1206/Halliburton-destroyed-evidence-after-Gulf-oil-spill-BP-charges

America needs oil, we do not need another incident like this.  While the BP incident resulted in changes to offshore-drilling regulations and increased vigilance about oil spills, The U.S. Coast Guard just last week spotted another oil slick in the Gulf.

Scientists can’t yet determine where the 10-mile stretch of oil sheen found Wednesday in the Gulf of Mexico originated, but they have ways of finding out. Shell oil is investigating.  http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/2012/0412/Mysterious-Gulf-oil-sheen-Where-did-it-come-from

Shell said later Wednesday that a 10-square-mile layer of an unknown substance was floating between its Mars and Ursa platforms, which are some of the largest oil and gas-producing facilities in the Gulf.  Shell said it confirmed that there are “no well control issues” associated with its drilling operations in the area. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702304444604577339153651214084.html

What are the odds that 10 miles of an unknown substance wouldn’t be oil from a nearby platform?  Guess there is the off chance a 747 plane dropped its fuel.  Uh, huh. Why is Shell leading the investigation?  “As simple as it may seem, the law prevents the government from just taking over,  After the 1989 Exxon Valdez spill in Alaska, Congress dictated that oil companies be responsible for dealing with major accidents – including paying for all cleanup – with oversight by federal agencies.  https://ahrcanum.wordpress.com/2010/05/24/bp-tells-epa-to-shove-it-oil-spill-cleanup/

BP used at least 1.9 million gallons of toxic Corexit dispersals to sink the oil. They burned the fuel, and watched  it wash up on shores and onto the seabed. The cleanup and monitoring will continue.  Is it any wonder that fishermen and scientists are finding all sorts of weird sea creatures.  Shrimp with no eyes, crabs rotting from the inside.  All sorts of  seafood that we humans eat.   A must read comes from http://www.aljazeera.com/indepth/features/2012/04/201241682318260912.html

…chemicals named polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), released from BP’s submerged oil, are likely to blame, due to the fact that the fish with lesions he is finding are from “a wide spatial distribution that is spatially coordinated with oil from the Deepwater Horizon, both surface oil and subsurface oil.

President Obama, who actually managed to visit the area long after Jimmy Buffett did, has managed to come up with the idea that the oil industry does not need tax breaks.  He vetoed the Keystone Pipeline, and has barely issued any new permits for drilling on federal lands.  His most recent thought on how to curb the rising costs of gas?  To spend $52 million on further regulations in the oil futures markets.

Obama wants Congress to strengthen federal supervision of oil markets, increase penalties for market manipulation and empower regulators to increase the amount of money energy traders are required to put behind their transactions. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-250_162-57415230/obama-calls-on-congress-to-help-police-oil-markets/ The federal gas tax — 18.4 cents a gallon for gasoline, 24.4 cents for diesel.  This year we managed to export more than we imported.  For every mile you don’t drive to burn up gas, the government makes no money and that means no new bridges and infrastructure.

The slowdown in permit issuance for drilling on federal land is totally and completely unrelated to the price of gasoline.  The White House keeps telling us that every time the subject comes up.  As we know from our Acadaemia Institute economics lessons, increased supply never lowers price.  http://hotair.com/archives/2012/03/27/video-drilling-permits-on-federal-land-declining-under-obama/

Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar, during a visit to the Fort Berthold Reservation Tuesday, unveiled initiatives to speed up drilling permits and leases on federal lands.

Salazar announced the Bureau of Land Management, an agency of the Interior Department, will implement new automated tracking systems that could reduce the review period for drilling permits by two-thirds and expedite the sale and processing of federal oil and gas leases.

According to Interior Department information:  The new system will track permit applications through the entire review process and quickly flag any missing or incomplete information greatly reducing the back-and-forth between BLM and industry applicants currently needed to amend paper applications.  The new drilling permit system is expected to be fully online by May 2013.  http://www.minotdailynews.com/page/content.detail/id/564504/Interior-secretary-to-speed-up-drilling-permits–leases-on-federal-lands.html?nav=5010

By May of 2013? That’s 13 months from now!  Ridiculous. All the hoops and regulations seem to be online now at the BLM website including a free download of the publication Surface Operating Standards and Guidelines for Oil and Gas Exploration and Development (commonly referred to as The Gold Book) was developed to assist operators by providing information on the requirements for obtaining permit approval and conducting environmentally responsible oil and gas operations on Federal lands and on private surface over Federal minerals (split-estate).

Not to be all doom and gloomy, there is a bit of good news.

Oil in New York has technical support along its 100-day moving average, around $101.93 a barrel today, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Futures have been trading above this indicator for the past week. Buy orders tend to be clustered near chart-support levels.

U.S. crude stockpiles climbed to 369 million barrels, the highest level since May 27, the Energy Department data showed. Refineries operated at less than 85 percent of capacity for a second week, according to the report.- Bloomberg http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-04-19/oil-trades-near-one-week-low-in-new-york-on-rising-u-s-supplies.html

Stay tuned and have a good day, one day it will be your last.  God Bless.

Decontamination Stations for Beach Goers

The Environmental Protection Agency plans to put decontamination stations along the Florida’s Pensacola beaches as a result of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill according to the PNJ. http://www.pnj.com/article/20100626/NEWS01/6260322/1001/RSS   These stations are apparently for decontaminating people on the beach, rather than wildlife.  So far, 400 people have sought medical care for upper or lower respiratory problems, headaches, nausea, and eye irritation after trips to Escambia County beaches.

Instead of utilizing FEMA, The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has been designated the lead state agency for responding to potential impacts of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill along Florida’s shoreline.  http://www.dep.state.fl.us/deepwaterhorizon/default.htm  The DEP claim is that,  “For most people, occasional brief contact with a small amount of oil, while not recommended, will do no harm. If contact occurs, wash the area with soap and water.” http://www.dep.state.fl.us/deepwaterhorizon/health.htm

To swim or not to swim?  Drowning in opinion-

Florida’s Escambia County Health Department lifted a health advisory on Pensacola Beach on Friday on the advice of a beach official and against the advice of a federal environmental official.

And hours after the Pensacola Beach advisory was lifted, the health department asked for state approval to issue an oil-impact advisory that leaves the decision to swim in the Gulf of Mexico up to the discretion of individual beachgoers. The signs would be posted on 41 of the 43 miles of Escambia County beaches — from the Florida-Alabama line to just west of Portofino Beach — impacted by oil.

But, the EPA is ill prepared for any kind of decontamination stations.  A report issued last week claims the EPA is 10 years behind schedule in setting guidelines for a host of toxic air pollutants, according to a report from the agency’s inspector general.  http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/27/science/earth/27epa.html?_r=1&ref=global-home

I can envision the signs now. Pursuant to Section Stupid MoFo, Subsection 666, and in an effort to curb our liability- swimming in these water may be hazardous to your health. Should you become slimy with oil, have breathing problems or feel ill, proceed to the nearest decontamination station where you will be met with the unknown.

Portable Decontamination Containers

We can only begin to fathom the possibilities:

Station One. Name, Social Security Number, Residence, Medical history.  Sign here to accept decontamination procedures and release of liability.

Station Two.  Strip down naked.  Your clothes, bathing suits, shoes, will not be returned to you. EPA subcontractors begin take vitals, blood and physical samples of contaminates.

Station Three. Administer decontamination procedures:

Wet Blasting begins. Long handle brushes. Non-phosphate detergent. Administer selected solvents like acetone, hexane, nitric acid, etc. Tap Water, Distilled Water or Deionized water. DOT requirements will apply for solvent rinse waste.

Station Four.  Apply absorbent towel for drying.  Government issues an Orange Jump Suit and either allows you to go home or be quarantined. Maybe they will RFID chip you for follow up.

Station Five.  If patient is labeled as hazardous waste, proceed to FEMA CAMP.

Standard Operating Procedures for Decontaminating Equipment can be found at http://www.epa.gov/earth1r6/6pd/qa/qadevtools/mod5_sops/misc_field_procudures/ertsop2006equip-decon.pdf   Do you think for one minute that the EPA or FEMA is not prepared to do something similar to the above scenario?   Here is a Summary from UNIFIED COMMAND for decontamination procedures for personnel. Double dog dare ya to fill it out. http://www.dec.state.ak.us/spar/perp/permits/pdf/UC_Decontamination.pdf

Find The FEMA Camp Near You

photo props http://snardfarker.ning.com/profiles/blogs/fema-camp-map.  “FEMA also heads up the National Infrastructure Protection Plan (NIPP). Designed to protect the critical infrastructure and key resources (CI/KR) of the United States is essential to the Nation’s security, public health and safety, economic vitality, and way of life. ” That sounds all well and good, but conspicuous FEMA activity and changes to law enabling FEMA power were reported previously in this article, https://ahrcanum.wordpress.com/2009/05/10/fema-ready-for-flu-pandemic-fire-floods-resistance/.  And the fact that,

“The National Emergency Centers Act or HR 645 mandates the establishment of national emergency centers to be located on military installations for the purpose of to providing temporary housing, medical, and humanitarian assistance to individuals and families dislocated due to an emergency or major disaster, according to the bill.”

You do remember FEMA CITY, in Charlotte County Florida post Hurricane Charley, say nothing of the ones that sprang up post Katrina. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/09/16/AR2005091601922.html

The rumours are swirling that plans are in place to evacuate parts of Florida.  Rex 84, Operation Cable Splicer and Garden Plot ringing any one’s bell?

FEMA has plans to evacuate the Tampa Bay area in the event of a controlled burn of surface oil in the Gulf of Mexico, or if wind or other conditions are expected to take toxic fumes through Tampa Bay, according to a report by Maryann Tobin in the Hernando County Political Buzz Examiner.  http://current.com/technology/92510180_florida-gulf-oil-spill-plans-to-evacuate-tampa-bay-area-are-in-place-veterans-today.htm

In the event the EPA can’t handle decontamination’s, OSHA stands ready to assist- having practiced in the event of an anthrax contamination.

This HASP [sic, Health and Safety Plan] template was prepared by OSHA and funded by EPA. It provides model language that is acceptable to OSHA in meeting the requirements of OSHA’s Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) Standard, 29 CFR 1910.120 or 29 CFR 1926.65, paragraph (b)(4). That paragraph requires a site-specific safety and health plan for clean-up operations conducted under HAZWOPER,…http://www.osha.gov/dep/anthrax/hasp/index.html

The sharks have likely left the area due to the lack of oxygen, making beach swimming safer.  The Corexit, Oil  Methane and Benzine shouldn’t be a bother as Pensicola’s beach officials believe.  Maybe all this is just a practice for a resurgence in the H1N1 Swine Flu Mitigation?  Maybe this is a practice for a nuclear bomb being set off at the drilling site?  Certainly Methane is flamable.

The Shoreline and Gulf of Mexico water analysis will go on for years keeping the land sharks, politicians and BP busy in and out of the courts.  For now, swim at your own risk, decontaminate at your own risk, and have a Happy Fourth of July.

God Bless America.

US President Barack Obama reacts a the gift of an FBI hat given to him by FBI Director Robert Mueller prior to speaking to employees at FBI Headquarters in Washington, DC, April 28, 2009. Photo credit SAUL LOEB/AFP/Getty Images

President Obama remains unscathed by the legal system has sworn to uphold, yet again.  Whether Obama has played by the rules in his career certainly remains suspect.

Putting aside all the legal wrangling and avoidance of showing an actual birth certificate to put an end to all the birther questions; this time the Chicago Judge in the Blagojevich trial has denied a defense request to gain access to the FBI report summarizing then President-Elect Obama’s 2008 interview with federal investigators.

Defense lawyers argued in a filing last week that the government minimized Obama’s knowledge of the then-Governor’s attempts to horsetrade for the Senate seat appointment. They said that testimony by government witness John Harris contradicted that portrayal by federal prosecutors.

Harris testified last week that Blagojevich believed Obama knew about Blagojevich’s request for a presidential cabinet appointment in exchange for appointing Valerie Jarrett to the Senate seat. http://blogs.suntimes.com/blago/2010/06/judge_to_blagojevich_lawyers_y.html

A government witness testifies that Obama knew about Blagojevich’s request, and yet his FBI interview file will remain closed.  No one has followed the Blago,Rezko, Obama trail better than Citizen Wells. http://citizenwells.com/2010/06/28/blagojevich-trial-alexi-giannoulias-subpoena-giannoulias-ties-to-obama-chicago-corruption-giannoulias-introduced-balanoff-to-jarrett/

Alexi Giannoulias, a US Senate candidate from Illinois, has been subpoenaed for the Rod Blagojevich trial. Giannoulias set up a meeting between Valerie Jarrett and Tom Balanoff, head of SEIU in Illinois. But there is much more about Alexi Giannoulias that is of interest to anyone following Chicago corruption.

“The close association of Obama with a man who seems clearly to be involved in some shady deals with convicted criminals is yet another example of questionable judgment at best and typical dirty Chicago politics at worst. I wonder if Giannoulias will turn out to be the next in Obama’s never-ending series of “He’s not the man I knew”.”

Twisting the story of Obama’s involvement is John Kas from the Chicago Tribune who claims he has a letter personally addressed from the President to Rezko. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/columnists/ct-met-kass-0627-20100627,0,805898.column

It’s a letter with your name on it in big capital letters, PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA.

It’s postmarked June 16, 2010, and was mailed from Richmond, Va., with a 44-cent stamp. And, it’s printed in soy ink on recycled paper, so it’s eco-friendly.

But the fascinating part is whom the letter from PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA is addressed to:

Tony Rezko.

Yes, that Tony Rezko.

I’m not joking. This is a real letter.

Remember Tony? The “That’s not the Tony Rezko I knew” Tony? Your personal real estate fairy who helped you buy that dream house in Kenwood? The Tony of your “boneheaded” move? Yeah, that guy.

Your letter was sent to one of Rezko’s old business addresses in Chicago, and I got to take a look at it. I promised not to reveal the address if we could take a picture of it.

Mr. President, the first thing I thought was, “What would Barack want us to do with this letter?”

And the second thing I thought of was that I’d better write about it before Rahm sends the “Men in Black” to stun me with a ray gun that erases all memory.

Federal Law prohibits opening someone else’s mail.  What’s in the letter?  And why now in the midst of the Blago trial would Obama choose to correspond with Rezko?  Will Kas open the letter and take the consequences in the interest of freedom of the press?

Then there is the U.S Government Mole,  Bernard Barton, Jr. who in In 2000, moved to Chicago, changed his name to John Thomas and went undercover for the U.S. Attorney in Chicago in some sort of a deal to avoid jail time for federal business fraud relating to real estate investment.

Barton wore an undercover wire, though claimed he did not record Blago and Obama.  He never testified at the trial for Rezko. Perhaps for or against Blago?  http://bigjournalism.com/acary/2010/05/19/tony-rezko-barack-obama-the-fbi-mole-and-the-chicago-msm/

Avoiding disclosure of FBI records and most other records, is nothing new to the Obama family.

In response to a Freedom of Information Act request, the FBI has formally acknowledged a file existed on President Barack Obama’s grandfather, Stanley Armour Dunham, that was destroyed May 1, 1997. The FBI previously released some 600 pages of the FBI file of Frank Marshall Davis, the Chicago-based journalist and poet who as a member of the Communist Party USA retired in Hawaii and befriended Dunham. http://www.wnd.com/?pageId=139805.

In 1997, the year the FBI destroyed his father’s files, Obama was still hanging out with Bill Ayers

Ayers will be joined by Sen. Barack Obama, Senior Lecturer in the Law School, who is working to combat legislation that would put more juvenile offenders into the adult system… http://chronicle.uchicago.edu/971106/justice.shtml

FBI files from 1976, recently made public under the Freedom of Information Act, confirm the connections between Weatherman, Havana, and Moscow. Weatherman leaders … traveled illegally to Havana … to engage in terrorist training. There, camps set up by Soviet KGB Colonel Vadim Kotchergine were educating Westerners both in Marxist philosophy and urban warfare. http://frontpage.americandaughter.com/?tag=william-ayers

On May 21, 1970 an audiotape recorded by Dohrn announced a declaration of war on the United States.

Hello. This is Bernardine Dohrn.

I’m going to read A DECLARATION OF A STATE OF WAR.

This is the first communication from the Weatherman underground.

All over the world, people fighting Amerikan imperialism look to Amerika’s youth to use our strategic position behind enemy lines to join forces in the destruction of the empire.

Black people have been fighting almost alone for years. We’ve known that our job is to lead white kids to armed revolution…. Tens of thousands have learned that protest and marches don’t do it. Revolutionary violence is the only way.

Are Ayers and Dorn getting their way?  More Americans are shot in Chicago than in Iraq.   There have been 209 homicides so far in 2010, based on RedEye statistics. http://homicides.redeyechicago.com/ 39 U.S. Soldiers have died in Iraq in 2010. http://www.icasualties.org/Iraq/Fatalities.aspx  Ayers and Dorn remain free on an FBI technicality, a blunder in their prosecution.

Need another example of dodging the FBI?  Tucker Carlson’s Daily Caller is forwarding claims that an “FBI document dump” related to the agency’s 2007 investigation into ACORN workers in Missouri is evidence that ACORN requires a “national criminal investigation” which is being halted by the Obama administration. http://mediamatters.org/blog/201006100047  It was originally halted by Bush pending further investigation.

Obama for all his hope and change, may end up getting more than a run for his money defending his reputation in this case; even without offering testimony, or having any of his FBI interviews or files released.

It doesn’t take the FBI for the American people to see where President Obama is taking America.  Socialism, anti-Americanism, ACORN, Ayers, Khalidi, Wright, Rezko, Blago….might as well throw in the insane bowing to Kings while we’re at it.   Oh wait, them there Kings have oil drilling, while we sit on the world’s largest shale petroleum reserve in the world doing nothing. https://ahrcanum.wordpress.com/2010/06/28/oils-dirty-little-secret-the-land-grab-act/.  Say nothing of the moratorium in the Gulf.

GULF OF MEXICO OIL SPILL AND AFFECTED COASTLINE CLOSED

The media blackout continues.  The airspace over the coastal waters around the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill have been closed by the FAA.

Pursuant to 14 CFR section 91.137(a)(1) temporary flight restrictions are in effect for deepwater horizon/mississippi canyon (mc252) incident cleanup and reconstitution operations…All aircraft operations are prohibited except those flights authorized by ATC, routine flights supporting offshore oil operations; federal, state, local and military flight operations supporting oil spill recovery and reconstitution efforts; and air medical and law enforcement operations. http://tfr.faa.gov/save_pages/detail_0_5100.html

The closing of airspace does occur from time to time for everything from a military air show, to the arrival of a VIP.  Other recent airspace closures can be found at http://tfr.faa.gov/tfr2/list.html.  Most recently, much of Europe airspace was closed and blamed on the often invisible ash cloud from the Iceland Volcano.  We saw airspace closed in the entire U.S. immediately after the events of 9-11.

So why close the airspace over an oil spill?

We know the oil spill is huge, and we know that BP and the AirForce is spraying COREXIT, the dispersant.  The release says, “For additional information on air operations within the deepwater horizon TFR see website: https://1afnorth.Region1.Ang.Af.Mil/deepwater_spill/default.Aspx This link is a military site that offers no public access.  So much for taking a little plane ride over the area.

https://ahrcanum.wordpress.com/2010/05/24/bp-tells-epa-to-shove-it-oil-spill-cleanup/ we noted that the EPA had asked BP to find an alternative to COREXIT after nearly a month of aerial spraying.

April 30, 2010. WASHINGTON (AP) — Two Air Force planes have been sent to Mississippi and were awaiting orders to start dumping chemicals on the oil spill threatening the coast, as the government worked Friday to determine how large a role the military should play in the cleanup.

The C-130 Hercules cargo planes, specially designed for aerial spraying, were sent Thursday from the Youngstown Air Reserve Station in Ohio, said a spokesman there, Master Sgt. Bob Barko Jr. http://www.chem.info/News/2010/04/Environmental-Controls-Air-Force-Ready-to-Spray-Oil-Spill/

While we no longer have Posse Comitatus anymore with active U.S. Military Troops on U.S. soil, we now have BP hiring private security contractors to protect the oil spill, cleanup efforts and keep onlookers away.

In this video, the security firms name was revealed as Talon Security..  http://www.talonprivatesecurity.com/ They appear to be wearing sidearms and flack jackets.

“This wouldn’t be the first time a private security firm made an appearance in a Gulf disaster,” Wired’s Adam Rawnsley writes. “When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, the Department of Homeland Security and a number of private firms, fearful of reported widespread violence and chaos, turned to private security contractors like Blackwater and ArmorGroup International to protect their property.” via http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2010/06/bp-hires-mercs-to-block-oily-beaches/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
Even Anderson Cooper of CNN,  was warned by FEDERAL WILDLIFE OFFICIALS to avoid doing a bird clean up interview and when pursuing images of the clean up area, was denied access by a NATIONAL GUARD Troops.

Now we have the National Guard, The FAA, and private contractors all denying access.  Who and what authorizes BP, and a mercenary security firm like Talon Security to have the right to provide security in the Gulf in the first place?  Should privatized corporate law enforcement be a surprise.

Representative Gene Taylor (D-MS 4th) an 11th term Democrat from Mississippi, in a letter to President Obama asks:

05.01.10
Coincidence
The BP oil fire is projected to cause severe damage to four shoreline states. Cause? Was it an accident?  Possible sabotage? Other?…Re: Recent BP fire – result oil spill 2010.
Should the federal government demand and regulate all oil employees who work on the oil rigs?  Should the federal government provide security on and around oil production rigs? It is my opinion that leasing oil production companies do not have the capacity to provide U.S. security. http://www.congress.org/congressorg/bio/userletter/?id=348&letter_id=5130467066

On May 5th, 2010, “Taylor flew over the spill in a Coast Guard plane on Saturday and said it was “not as bad” in an interview with a Biloxi TV station. He also said the slick looked like “chocolate milk” and appeared to be “breaking up naturally.”  http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/96217-wicker-defends-rep-taylors-bp-oil-spill-analogy-to-chocolate-milk
Chocolate milk does not require the coast guard, AirForce, private security personnel and closed airspace.  Relying only on BP data is BS.  BP appears to have control over Nat’l Incident Mngt Systems data.

What this means to the non-GIS layperson:

1) The current configuration and process allow BP to limit or slow down the flow of information about the extent of the disaster to the government, the public and law enforcement, which I believe is against the spirit and letter of NIMS*.

2) The current process allows BP to treat GIS datasets as proprietary information. It is my understanding that public agencies, like The US Fish and Wildlife Service and The Louisiana National Guard, are literally submitting the only copy of agency field data directly to a BP GIS server behind the corporate firewall. Examples of these data are; dead bird and fish locations with photos, boom deployment and engineered construction, dates, along with other descriptive information and photos.

3) The GIS information is essential to the recovery of public resources, and some data belongs to US taxpayers, not BP. BP is paying for the hardware and collection of these GIS datasets, yet it is my understanding that the data belong to the people of the United States. BP must not be allowed to protect these data as if they were a proprietary product.

4) State Emergency Operation Center staff, Parish EOC staff, and other Emergency Responders and Recovery Specialists do not have access to these GIS datasets, contrary to all NIMS guidance, protocols and principles. The effort to slow down the flow of information is at the expense of the containment and cleanup effort of the responders and is in our opinion, suspect behavior by BP.

5) The Federal On Scene Coordinator at ICP Houma, US Coast Guard Captain Ed Stanton, standing with USCG Rear Admiral James Watson, approved the National Incident Management System (NIMS) compliant design, and ordered the first database and server. That server was received by BP, and placed behind the BP firewall.

Conclusion–At the very least, per NIMS, there must be redundancy of GIS information managed jointly, and fully accessible to both the FOSC and the SOSC. Technology allows implementation of this design to occur instantaneously and automatically. http://www.theoildrum.com/node/6593

According to the European financial database Amadeus, JPMorgan Chase is the No. 1 holder of stock in BP. That distinction also has earned the Wall Street bank the title of “Global Ultimate Owner” of the oil giant, as it owns 28.34% of BP.  Let us remind you, JPMorgan got $25 BILLION in bailout money. http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/12/22/bailout.accountability/index.html

President Barack Obama declared war on the Gulf Oil spill in his first nationally televised address from the Oval Office.  Obama wagged a finger in emphasis and insisted that oil giant BP will pay for the extensive environmental and the economic damage to the Gulf region. Duration: :01:32.

Who’s really going to pay?  Follow the money all the way back to you and me.

A sinkhole that swallowed a three-storey building in Guatemala City has been blamed on a combination of Tropical Storm Agatha and poor drainage systems. Photograph: Luis Echeverria/AP

Hurricane season officially begins today, and not a moment too soon with a tropical storm brewing in the Gulf of Mexico.

An “active to extremely active” hurricane season is expected for the Atlantic Basin this year according to the seasonal outlook issued by NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center – a division of the National Weather Service. via http://www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2010/20100527_hurricaneoutlook.html

Tropical Storm Agatha swept across Central America yesterday, bringing torrential rain that killed more than 100 people and opened a 60m-deep sinkhole in Guatemala City which reportedly swallowed up a three-storey building. The first named storm of the 2010 Pacific season dumped more than a metre of rain in parts of Guatemala, also hitting El Salvador and Honduras. Reports http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/jun/01/storm-agatha-hole-guatemala

That’s some perfectly round sinkhole, wouldn’t you say?  Almost looks as if it was man-made.  Maybe it was just another HAARP or a Blue Beam demonstration? 15 of the World’s largest holes can be viewed at http://www.ebaumsworld.com/pictures/view/175284/

When Tropical Storm Agatha gets into the Gulf it will be renamed Alex, where it will further the spread of oil leaking from the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill. ht to http://monkeyfister.blogspot.com/2010/05/tropical-depression-agatha-crossing.html  A hurricane would be one sure fired way to dispurse the oil.

Predictions for Tropical Storm Alex

On the May 28 edition of Premiere Radio Networks’ The Rush Limbaugh Show, el Rushbo eluded that the oil spill could intensify hurricanes. Media Matters http://mediamatters.org/mmtv/201005280034  has the soundbite, and at least one commentator-Gravity_78  agrees saying that:

Water (H2O) losses about 2F for every 100 ft, Sea Water losses about 1.4 F for every 100 ft. Oil on the other hand heats up under pressure, so the great the pressure the hotter the oil will be. In turn the oil could heat the waters around it by as much as 5 F, and that would be bad. Hot water is what drives a hurricane, the hotter the water the stronger the hurricane.

Even if this storm subsides, there will be another one right behind it to create an oily mess.  Here is the latest image from the GOES satellite. Additional satellite images of the Gulf here http://www.goes.noaa.gov/g8hu.html, all regions viewing at http://www.goes.noaa.gov/

A perfectly round sinkhole and a perfectly round Tropical Storm?  Perfect crap.  Here is some more bull:

“If this outlook holds true, this season could be one of the more active on record,” said Jane Lubchenco, Ph.D., under secretary of commerce for oceans and atmosphere and NOAA administrator. “The greater likelihood of storms brings an increased risk of a landfall. In short, we urge everyone to be prepared.” FEMA is working across the administration and with our state and local partners to ensure we’re prepared for hurricane season,..You can’t control when a hurricane or other emergency may happen, but you can make sure you’re ready.” said FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate.

Well that’s just phooey.  No one was ready for the damage being caused by the oil spill in the Gulf- not BP, Transocean, Halliburton and especially no one in the government including the woman that either got fired or resigned, was in control.  What was it Obama said?  I’ve been in charge since day one.  If you believe New Orleans can handle another Katrina, I have a nice island for sale for a buck in the Mariana Islands.  If you don’t beleive in weather modification:

“Others [terrorists] are engaging even in an eco-type of terrorism whereby they can alter the climate, set off earthquakes, volcanoes remotely through the use of electromagnetic waves… So there are plenty of ingenious minds out there that are at work finding ways in which they can wreak terror upon other nations…It’s real, and that’s the reason why we have to intensify our [counterterrorism] efforts.” Secretary of Defense William Cohen at an April 1997 counterterrorism conference sponsored by former Senator Sam Nunn.  http://weatherwars.info/

A few days before the underwater volcano of oil erupted, the underwater volcano Eyjafjallajokull in Iceland erupted on April 15.  Since then we’ve seen numerous volcanic eruptions increase while Eyja just mysteriously ceased erupting, even though scientists predicted it to continue for months.  https://ahrcanum.wordpress.com/2010/05/25/icelands-volcano-eruption-endstops/ Here is today’s image of the day from http://www.osei.noaa.gov/, displaying a lovely shade of blue ash from this weekends eruption in Ecuador.

Tungurahua Volcano, May 28, 2010

This Saturday, there was a supposed an under water volcanic eruption near the Pacific’s Northern Marianas Island , 3,800 miles southwest of Hawaii that shot clouds of ash and vapor nearly eight miles into the sky. That’s 40,000 feet ladies and gents.  The U.S. Geological Survey says Saturday morning’s eruption appeared to come from an underwater volcano off Sarigan, an uninhabited island about 100 miles north of the U.S. commonwealth’s main island of Saipan.  No satellite images for that mystery event.

Sarigan Island in the northern Mariana Islands undersea eruption

What was going on at nearby andersen air force base guam, guam navy base, marine corps base guam is any one’s guess.  President Obama is scheduled to visit Guam sometime this June via http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/289451.

The Weather Service statement says that on Saturday night about 10:30pm,  the residents of Sarigan reported an eruption south of their island. [However that conflicts with a report in the Saipan Tribune http://www.saipantribune.com/newsstory.aspx?cat=1&newsID=100077  which says the eruption occurred Friday at noon.]http://www.pacificnewscenter.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=5505:cnmi-disaster-emergency-after-underwater-volcano-erupts&catid=45:guam-news&Itemid=156 Friday, Saturday, oh what’s the difference?

If a tree falls in the woods and there is no one there to hear it, does it make noise?  Who pushed the tree over?  How do you know it fell? We’ve got beam loss from CERN, the Chinese teleporting photons, submarine volcanic eruptions and thousand’s of gallons of oil spewing.  Come rain or shine, your government and FEMA stand ready to help you in the event of disasters like hurricanes, fire, or pandemic flu! Be prepared and find the FEMA camp near you at https://ahrcanum.wordpress.com/2009/05/10/fema-ready-for-flu-pandemic-fire-floods-resistance/

If there really isn’t a New World Order Conspiracy, then the chaos from the earth sure is coincidental.  Rahm Emanuel said, “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste. And what I mean by that is an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.”

The Deepwater Horizon Spill in the Gulf Coast has become a cluster cluck.  President Obama, a month after the leak started has decided that we now need a special commission headed by Ken Salazar, while Lisa P. Jackson, EPA Chief is headed back to the region for her third trip. http://dailycaller.com/2010/05/23/epa-chief-to-return-to-gulf-coast-to-monitor-spill/

The oil continues to flow, although BP is allegedly siphoning off some of the oil underground.   BP claims 5,000 gallons per day since April 13 and finally a month later on May 20, it has been decided that the federal government will come up with its own determination of how much oil is gushing in the Gulf.  Perhaps it should take its own water samples too.

“You know, it’s a shared responsibility, lots of things went wrong. There were multiple redundancies and fail-safe systems that were supposed to be in place that didn’t work,” said Salzar.   http://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2010/05/20/Salazar-Independent-oil-leak-rate-coming/UPI-41791274391760/

The EPA gave BP it’s okay to use chemical dispersants in an effort to corral and degrade some of the oil last week.  By Thursday, the EPA issued a directive for BP to stop using the controversial Corexit dispersal chemical within 24 hours.   https://ahrcanum.wordpress.com/2010/05/21/dispersants-epa-stops–

BP’s response was a pungent reminder of who is in charge, and it most certainly is not the EPA or and branch of the government.  BP issued a terse reply, saying it would continue to use the controversial chemical Corexit despite the directive.  BP officials believe that the leading alternative product, Sea Brat could pose a bigger risk over the long term.

C-130H Aerial Spraying

NotanotherCONspiracy points out that the government has been spraying “stuff” for years and likely could, would, and may have sprayed the Gulf to attempt to break up the oil.

A U.S. Air Force Reserve C-130 Hercules from the 910th Airlift Wing at Youngstown Air Reserve Station, Ohio, sprays Dibrom, a pesticide approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency …http://www.notanotherconspiracy.com/search/?q=chemtrails

Democratic strategist James Carville and MSNBC anchor Chris Matthews, two reliable supporters of President Barack Obama, have issued withering critiques of the administration’s handling of the Gulf oil spill.  Carville, the famously outspoken Louisianian who was a chief political aide to Bill and Hillary Clinton, told CNN’s Anderson Cooper on Thursday that the administration’s response to the spill has been “lackadaisical” and that Obama was “naive” to trust BP to manage the massive clean-up effort. Video and full text at http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/05/21/obama-faces-new-wave-of-c_n_585620.html

“The government should have stepped in and not just taken BP’s word,” declared Wayne Stone of Marathon, Fla., an avid diver who worries about the spill’s effect on the ecosystem….As simple as it may seem, the law prevents the government from just taking over, Allen said. After the 1989 Exxon Valdez spill in Alaska, Congress dictated that oil companies be responsible for dealing with major accidents – including paying for all cleanup – with oversight by federal agencies.  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/05/22/frustration-mounts-as-oil_n_585913.html

Oversight by Federal Agencies- how laughable. Really, what’s one more law or promise broken by the government?

We do not have transparency from BP nor the EPA, nor do we have control over the cleanup.  For heaven’s sake, some environmental group decided that throwing human hair on the slicks would help. BP has declined the offer. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=127041062&ft=1&f=1025 (Human hair does help keep deer away from gardens though.)

BP chief Tony Hayward told the Associated Foreign Press, “everything we can see at the moment suggests that the overall environmental impact will be very, very modest.”

Could he be right?  So far, reports are saying 154 sea turtles, 12 dolphins and 23 sea birds have been found dead. via http://www.huffingtonpost.com/edward-f-blizzard/bp-officials-downplay-imp_b_581787.html

In January and into February, I was there to witness –

By comparison, the death count of sea critters so far seems small.  With nearly 20% of the Gulf closed to fishing, a fish kill would most likely never be documented in the open waters, only what is witnessed on shore.
It doesn’t just take a cold snap or an oil spill to close beaches.  How about a birds nest?   A shorebird called a tern laid a single egg in Cape Hatteras National Seashore.  The result:

Three favored off-road beaches and fishing spots – Cape Point in Buxton, South Ocracoke and the Bodie Island Spit at Oregon Inlet – were effectively closed to prepare for expected shorebird breeding. Large buffer zones preclude access by pedestrians and vehicles. http://hamptonroads.com/node/464263

One little egg is going to devastate tourism in parts of the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  Maybe the state can ask for a bailout like every other whiny piss-ant governor.  Florida has asked BP for $35 million dollars for tourism advertising.  So help me if BP pays one dime for an ad, I am going to flip my lid.   How dare Florida, who’s beaches so far haven’t been impacted, ask in the first place?

Oil Spill. Getty Images.

The Deepwater Horizon Oil spill or leak as BP calls it, is a disaster of epic proportion.  The response by the EPA is equally to blame in the approval of two chemical dispersants by BP, and it’s reliance soley on BP to clean it up and provide water samples.

Saturday May 15, 2010-“Based on the scientific analysis of the EPA and NOAA and review by the National Response Team, it has been determined that the use of dispersants at the subsea source is the prudent and responsible action to take along with other tactics including surface dispersant, skimming and controlled burns.” http://www.deepwaterhorizonresponse.com/go/doc/2931/551271/

We warned in this post, https://ahrcanum.wordpress.com/2010/05/16/deepwater-horizon-oil-spill-response/ that the use of chemical dispersants, is not without it’s own hazards.  BP asked, and got approval from the EPA to use COREXIT, manufactured by Nalco Company, Illinois. http://www.nalco.com/

COREXIT EC 9500 A http://www.deepwaterhorizonresponse.com/posted/2931/Corexit_EC9500A_MSDS.539287.pdf

COREXIT 9527  C  http://www.deepwaterhorizonresponse.com/posted/2931/Corexit_EC9527A_MSDS.539295.pdf

COREXIT products clearly state that they are not to be used on surface water and are toxic to wildlife. And that, “It is unknown if dispersed oil has toxic implications to the human population because bioaccumulation through the food chain has not been evaluated.”  http://www.epa.gov/bpspill/dispersants.html#q3

It was not prudent and responsible to approve these particular products, and now in a reverse course, EPA is revoking its decision.

The Environmental Protection Agency informed BP officials late Wednesday that the company has 24 hours to choose a less-toxic form of chemical dispersants to break up its oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, according to government sources familiar with the decision, and must apply the new form of dispersants within 72 hours of submitting the list of alternatives.

The move is significant, because it suggests federal officials are now concerned that the unprecedented use of chemical dispersants could pose a significant threat to the Gulf of Mexico’s marine life. BP has been using two forms of dispersants, Corexit 9500A and Corexit 9527A, and so far has applied 600,000 gallons on the surface and 55,000 underwater.http://views.washingtonpost.com/climate-change/post-carbon/2010/05/epa_demands_less_toxic_dispersant.html

A significant threat?  Why approve COREXIT in the first place?  Maybe because Nalco Company received nearly two million dollars in government contracts this year alone. http://www.governmentcontractswon.com/department/defense/ondeo_nalco_company_004962403.asp?yr=09

Capacity to make change? Change you can believe in?

Let me think, who else is from Chicago that I can think of?  Blagojevich, Wright, Ayers, President Obama. The biggest oil spill in the world has taken place under Obama’s reign and it took him days to hold a conference with administration officials and eleven days to go see for himself. http://seminal.firedoglake.com/diary/45025

Keeping in good graces in the eye of  the government and the public, Nalco issued this statement on EPA Analysis of Sub-surface Dispersant Use,  http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix.zhtml?c=182822&p=irol-newsArticle_pf&ID=1429558&highlight=NAPERVILLE, Ill.,

May 20, 2010 (GlobeNewswire via COMTEX) –Nalco (NYSE:NLC) today issued the following statement:We are gratified that the EPA has acknowledged that the use of Nalco’s dispersants has been effective and has had no undue impact on the marine environment.  As the agency noted on its website today: “Toxicity data does not indicate any significant affects on aquatic life. Moreover, decreased size of the oil droplets is a good indication that, so far, the dispersant is effective.”

The results can be found at http://www.epa.gov/bpspill/ .  To date, approximately 600,000 gallons of dispersant has been used on the surface and approximately 55,000 gallons of dispersant has been used subsurface, at the source of the spill.

Do you smell something fishy?

Nalco claims the products are working just fine with no hazards, yet the EPA is revoking the use of COREXIT?  Yep.  It boils down to the fact that the government is not happy with BP.  In a Letter From Secretary Napolitano and EPA Administrator Jackson to BP CEO Tony Hayward (PDF) they all but accuse BP of adulterating water samples to justify that COREXIT and the sucking up gadget is having a positive effect of the spill.

WHY ISN’T THE EPA TAKING IT’S OWN WATER SAMPLES?

Friday, May 21, 2010 11 a.m. CDT. U.S. Coast Guard Incident Commander Capt. Steven Poulin, U.S. Coast Guard Deputy Incident Commander Capt. Bill Drelling, and BP Incident Commander Keith Seilham of  The Deepwater Horizon Response Unified Incident Command, Mobile, Ala., are scheduled to hold a press briefing about ongoing response operations along the Mississippi, Alabama and Florida coasts.  http://www.deepwaterhorizonresponse.com/go/doc/2931/557791/  I got tired of listening to the music and hung up after the delayed start, but why wouldn’t the EPA be involved as well?

The forecast where the oil is heading can be viewed at http://www.deepwaterhorizonresponse.com/posted/2931/os_forecast_20100523_1800CDT_20100520_1900CDT_rs.557859.pdf  Too bad no one is mapping where the dispersants have been administered.  In an effort to have more government oversight before a catastrophe, about a week ago The Department of the Interior released this:

Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar today announced a set of reforms that will provide federal inspectors more tools, more resources, more independence, and greater authority to enforce laws and regulations that apply to oil and gas companies operating on the Outer Continental Shelf. http://www.doi.gov/news/pressreleases/Salazar-Launches-Safety-and-Environmental-Protection-Reforms-to-Toughen-Oversight-of-Offshore-Oil-and-Gas-Operations.cfm //  http://www.mms.gov/

Salazar implies BP and other oil companies want to lose untold amounts of oil and money on purpose.  Gives you that warm fuzzy feeling that more independence will prevent this from happening again.  How about a new set of federal reforms that secure our border?

The Bp Deepwater Horizon Oil spill continues with no end in sight.

The NOAA branch of the government called OFFICE OF RESPONSE AND RESTORATION, EMERGENCY RESPONSE DIVISION worked on a Saturday, May 15, 2010 to issue a report called DEEPWATER HORIZON OIL: CHARATERISTICS AND CONCERNS,  http://www.deepwaterhorizonresponse.com/posted/2931/OilCharacteristics.551475.pdf

The report tells us that oil in water is hazardous to human and aquatic life and makes some suggestions on how to clean it up.  Gee thanks, our tax dollars at work as if we didn’t know it was a hazard.

Also on May 15, 2010, The U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) today announced they have authorized BP to use dispersants underwater, at the source of the Deepwater Horizon leak.  Oil spill dispersants are chemicals that attempt to break down the oil into small drops and prevent it from reaching the surface or the U.S. shoreline.  Dispersants are generally less harmful than the highly toxic oil leaking from the source and they biodegrade in a much shorter time span.

“Based on the scientific analysis of the EPA and NOAA and review by the National Response Team, it has been determined that the use of dispersants at the subsea source is the prudent and responsible action to take along with other tactics including surface dispersant, skimming and controlled burns.” http://www.deepwaterhorizonresponse.com/go/doc/2931/551271/

Prudent and Responsible?  Calling it a novel approach,  the government is relying on BP to use chemical dispersants among other clean up efforts.  The two approved products are COREXIT EC 9500 A http://www.deepwaterhorizonresponse.com/posted/2931/Corexit_EC9500A_MSDS.539287.pdf and COREXIT 9527  C  http://www.deepwaterhorizonresponse.com/posted/2931/Corexit_EC9527A_MSDS.539295.pdf Both are manufactured by Nalco Company, Illinois. http://www.nalco.com/

WARNING!  NOT TO BE USED ON SURFACE WATER. Oh so what, the EPA  has given its approval to use them on the surface and underwater.  The ecotoxicological effects on fish, had them dead within 48 – 96 hours.  If the oil doesn’t kill the Gulf of Mexico’s fish, the chemical dispersants likely will.  If they do live, who wants to eat them?   Dr. Jane Lubchenco the  Undersecretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere, NOAA, says she’ll eat them, saying, “Yes, and I would enjoy it.”

It is unknown if dispersed oil has toxic implications to the human population because bioaccumulation through the food chain has not been evaluated.  http://www.epa.gov/bpspill/dispersants.html#q3

Did BP ask, or did the EPA order the use of dispersals?  On May 10 the EPA asked BP to implement a Dispersed Plume Characterization Plan for Subsurface Dispersant Application.  http://www.epa.gov/bpspill/dispersants/subsurface-dispersant-directive-final.pdf  This plan relies soley on BP to do the testing and then sending the results to the EPA.   How much could it cost for the Coast Guard to do some some of it’s own testing to keep BP honest?  What happens if BP doesn’t execute the plan at all?

Officials monitoring the subsea results reported that the first two tests were inconclusive. Logistical problems in obtaining samples down to 5,000 feet prevented proper sampling. A third test is underway, with some samples already in the labs at Louisiana State University reports Global Research. http://globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=19151

Imagine that.  The results are inconclusive.  I conclude, a dead fish can’t swim upstream.
