All good things, we are told, must come to an end. The corn has been growing and the grass has finally slowed down. With a few days notice found a little rental beach condo, made some memories and heading back to reality.
Props to the folks at AirTran now Southwest airlines! On one of the busiest travel weeks, not one problem. Maybe everyone was still in a good mood- it being holy week and all.
No visible contrails or chemtrails at 33,000 feet. TSA agents okay too. Had a family line to expedite us all. Been patted down at football, basketball and hockey games but not at the airports. Kids glad, parents happy!
Good to feel the sunshine and be warm, now it’s about time to plow the fields to get ready to plant. Toss up between soybeans and corn. Might pass on tomatoes, easier to buy from the neighbor farm.
Got a friend diagnosed w Gillian barre- immunity issues, that lives just down the road. Makes is wonder what caused it as its pretty rare. A chance aerial spraying, a recent vaccine? Are we at a higher risk now?
The Tulips survived the late frost, as for the rest of the perennials, just going to have to wait and see. Azaleas looking as bad as the sick neighbor. Guess it’s all in the hands of God.
Just when u think you r in the middle of nowhere in Florida along comes the worlds largest producer of sugar, US Sugar.
Then there is the zillion cows to eat for dinner. Drive a stretch to Duda farms, one of the largest vegetable growers. Oh, look Alico! Can u spell Orange Juice.
We c browned skinned people shaking the trees to get to the fruit of the Gods-the oranges. Mexican, American it’s hot, hard work.
At the beaches in Florida there r a lot of white folks wishing they was brown. Only hard work they’re doing on vacation is rolling over for an even burn.
No one is really thinking about the potato farmer to make that, oh so fine vodka martini. How u want your steak cooked? Care for a side salad? Costs x-tra. Have to pay the farm workers.
Tough spot to be in in order to eat. Growing, planting, clean stalls, weather, labor, benefits, transportation, storage, kitchen staff, wait staff- holy moly. No wonder more folks don’t get salmonella!
The “system” doesn’t work for everyone but don’t think there is any other country that does it better. Cheers to the state of Florida where from sitting in our car at least, feeding the world looks easy.
We know oh too we’ll, as farmers in middle America, it’s not.
I’ve got a bilateral eye injury. The water hose sprinkler got me in the face at full stream in both eyes – at a distance of about two feet. Ouch, how stupid? Can’t see so well to read or type, and everyone else is unavailable.
Since it is August and Congress is on a vacation, I’m taking a break too. I think I’ll jump through a sprinkler as opposed to shooting myself with one! Stupid is as stupid does. Be back shortly!

By all accounts hurricane Bill should have smacked Cape Cod right in the ass.
By all accounts, if you do not believe that the government just might have some degree of weather control— how is it that suddenly hurricane Bill is going to pass over where the Obama family just happens to be on vacation?
The massive Exxon Mobile -98,200 barrel per day Hibernia platform, which has a huge drilling operation is also business as usual.
Rather convenient.
STORM WARNING IN MASSACHUSETTS-A tropical storm warning was also in effect on Saturday for parts of the United States’ Massachusetts coast, including the island of Martha’s Vineyard, where President Barack Obama and his family are due to start a summer vacation on Sunday.http://www.reuters.com/article/topNews/idUSTRE57K19320090822
Boats and swimmers are barred from beaches and the ocean from Hatteras to Main’s coast as the risk of rip tides and flooding are apparent.
Got to start planning vacations around the Obama’s I guess.
Congress has left the building and I am going with them. In my email inbox today a letter from Mitch Stewart, Director Organizing for America:
“All throughout August, our members of Congress are back in town. Insurance companies and partisan attack groups are stirring up fear with false rumors about the President’s plan, and it’s extremely important that folks like you speak up now….Earlier this week, the President wrote that “this is the moment our movement was built for” and asked us all to commit to join at least one event this month.” http://my.barackobama.com/page/community/post/obamaforamerica/gGMPmC
“Our movement?” How about a movement toward socialism?
Throw in President Obama saying, “I don’t think we’re going to be able to eliminate employer coverage immediately. There’s going to be, potentially, some transition process: I can envision a decade out, or 15 years out, or 20 years out, ” and the movement is getting clearer.
“In an egalitarian society, lawmakers do not exploit their office to vote themselves lavish perks but live much like the people they represent. Congress should get the same health coverage enjoyed — can that be the right verb? — by a typical American. writes http://ethicist.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/08/03/too-much-vacation-for-congress/
What’s clear to me is that if Congress gets 4 weeks vacation, I can have a few days with the computer turned off to enjoy summers waning days.
Whew, finally summer has arrived and we survived the horrendous winter weather. Folks in NJ got a big surprise last week with a huge hailstorm wrecking havoc http://www.northjersey.com/multimedia/video/48114892.html -again illustrating the disproportion between science and reality. BTW- The House passed the American Clean Energy and Security Act, by a vote of 219-212.
The kids are off school and we are sleeping in a bit and planning for a few summer holidays. We are not leaving U.S. Soil- the greatest place on earth, even with all its faults. Hawaii is out with North Korea threatening a missile attack near Independence Day. California? Nah, besides sitting on a major earthquake fault line, is too liberal for me. MTV has been broadcasting all about Cancun, but we’ve been there and done that and I see no reason to support a government that can not manage to report influenza cases in a timely manner. ” Bahamas, Bermuda, Come on Pretty Mama”…The Beach Boys. Suggestions welcomed on where to go.
Our holiday is still up for discussion as the economy just sucks and I have been tortured into hearing more about alleged pedophile Michael Jackson than necessary.
Flipping to the net, I see Ben Bernanke the Fed Chair is feeling a bit challenged over Ron Paul’s Transparency Act that would allow an audit of the Fed. Oh boo hoo, where did our nine trillion dollars go, why doesn’t anyone know and most importantly, what is there to hide?
Wherever and whenever we go, if we go at all- like many Americans we go to the bank and take out what I call ‘play money’. You know, money to play with- to buy the things we don’t really need but really want- like a Summer Vacation- preferably at the unpolluted, jelly fish free beaches.
What if the banks go on holiday? I am cognizant of the FDR bank holiday. 1000’s of banks never reopened in a face saving measure. How many of our banks have no value, burdened by debt and bad mortgages? How many banks are now owned by the U.S. Government? How would I get to my safe deposit box if the bank was out of business? Would it’s meager contents have any value anyways?
The hissy fit regulators are having near seizures over opening their books to public scrutiny, and once again I have to adjust antennae to tune in to exactly what the hell is going on and if bank closures could happen.
A bank holiday would certainly push the dollar’s value lower adding more rational to BRICs plan of adopting other IMF baskets of currencies. Gold, already at a high premium would most likely increase, especially with the U.S. Mint announcing that there is a shortage of gold to produce certain coins. The mint will continue to issue Presidential Coins and, “In God We Trust” will appear on the face of the coin starting in 2009. http://www.usmint.gov/mint%5Fprograms/%241coin/ Surely all that glitters is not gold. I Trust in God, but the Fed, Obama, The World Bank or International Monetary Fund?
A Bank Holiday might just suit the needs of the U.S. economy according to some. The rumor mill is that U.S Embassies are buying local currency. The Harry Schultz Letter (HSL) seems to reiterate that a Bank Holiday could occur http://www.marketwatch.com/story/schultz-paints-bleak-picture-of-future?siteid=rss&rss=1 With a grain of salt I quote its current issue, HSL reports rumors that “Some U.S. embassies worldwide are being advised to purchase massive amounts of local currencies; enough to last them a year. Some embassies are being sent enormous amounts of U.S. cash to purchase currencies from those governments, quietly. But not pound sterling. Inside the State Dept., there is a sense of sadness and foreboding that ‘something’ is about to happen … within 180 days, but could be 120-150 days.”
One commentator at put it like this: If true, the reason is this. Our Embassies all over the world employ millions of local nationals. Day to day operating costs are staggering, from food purchasing to fuel purchasing to utilities to meeting the local payroll. Local currency pays for all those expenses. When the USD crashes, local currencies may not be able to be purchased with USD’s. Even in a slow-mo devaluation, trying to buy enough local currency for day to day operation will be very very expensive. Should the USD become severely devalued or worthless, our Embassies will not be able to operate….http://goldismoney.info/forums/showthread.php?t=379225 Believe you me we have ambassadors everywhere http://www.usembassy.gov/.
President Obama is attempting to federalize the police and Department of Defense across the US with his civilian workforce. If the shit hits the fan, banks go on holiday by September, civil unrest and Martial Law occurs between the money and the flu, the government will be all ready to take care of us. cough, cough.
I better get a move on somewhere and spend it while my money is still good. Yet, ” Consumer spending rose in May as benefits from the Obama administration’s stimulus plan spurred a jump in American incomes, a sign that efforts to revive the economy are starting to pay off….Stocks and the dollar dropped after China’s central bank again called for a new global currency. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=a6xBheN2SW.o Leave it to Bloomberg to give the credit to Obama and not the hard working folks of America who just want a little vacation.
For counter-terrorism and other purposes such as border security and fraud prevention, U.S. Citizens are required to have Passports. Summer vacation travel is just ahead, and no doubt Immigration and Customs Enforcement will keep track of your comings and goings, primarily swiping the bar code. On my last visit to Canada, no one bothered to place a governmental stamp on our Passports; much to my children’s chagrin, who wanted proof that they were there.
According to a Fox report today, in June RFID -Radio Frequency Identifications will be in use at the Canadian border for frequently border crossings under a program called eGo starting June 1st. RFID windscreen sticker tags and driver identification cards, as well as installing inspection booth reader equipment have been in the works since 2003 for 99 FAST( Free and Secure Trade) lanes across 22 border crossings. http://www.usingrfid.com/news/read.asp?lc=m12627kx53zz
Customs Border Patrol agents must be heaving a sigh of relief as The FAST system forms an intelligent border crossing system that enhances trade flow and security along the borders.
In a separate computer system, The State Department maintains a huge data base of Passport Records including documents, photographs and information attached to passport applications and renewals. Records like your “application for a passport and copies of any supporting documents like birth or marriage certificates. That application has your address, Social Security number, phone number, the name and number of your emergency contact and your photograph…. A search by name or passport number can also dredge up other items that have been attached to the file, such as court orders, arrest warrants, financial reports and even medical reports, according to the public State Department records.” http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1724759,00.html
No big deal until one realizes that the huge separate database ran by the Bureau of Consular Affairs also allows the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Justice, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the National Counter-Terrorism Center, “foreign governments, and entities such as Interpol” to link into the same system. I do not believe The Privacy Act extends beyond our borders. Passport identification and authentication systems should be held securely by the government which issues the documentation. What happened to the Bill of Rights?
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
Without warrant, your data is available for the world and all its hackers and identity thieves. It would appear that no U.S. Government Agency or foreign need to seek permission to access or distribute your personal information. The more the access, the more risk to vulnerability. Civil society would dictate you own your own data and that you take reasonable steps to keep things like your social security number private. While many citizens think securities necessary, do the provisions of The Bill of Rights and The Constitution still apply? Are Americans are becoming far too accustomed to having their privacy violated? Are are borders really Constitution Free Zones as suggested by the ACLU? Does your name appear on the 1.2 million person Terrorist Watch List along with Nelson Mandella, or U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy? http://www.aclu.org/privacy/spying/watchlistcounter.html
Too bad all this databasing wasn’t available when Obama travelled to Jakarta and Karachi. A British Passport? An Indonesian Passport? An American Passport? His official birth certificate by all accounts should still be on file if he was issued a U.S. Passport.
In the UK Biometrics identification and national I.D. cards will be potentially operated by the Post Office and drug stores. The program allows people to scan fingerprints and facial photographs for storage on the cards and in a central database. http://news.zdnet.co.uk/security/0,1000000189,39649181,00.htm
