You think it’s easy to be a farmer? It’s not. Our kids are the 3rd generation to grow up on the family farm and have seen it all. Well, a lot anyway.

They took their hand raised chickens to slaughter. They saw how sneaky a fox can be to get in and eat the remaining chickens. They’ve seen a foal birthing and hours later a donkey attacking it and breaking its neck, killing it in front of them. One day, merrily along they went to the barn and found one of the goats dead as a door nail. Suspect it got into the horse feed.

One of the big Boar goats managed to get stuck in a tree. Poor Annabelle broke her leg. Told the girls aliens and a ufo were bringing her back. lol. Vet said put her down. Not on my kids watch, and though she limps they nursed her back. They gave Annabelle’s boyfriend away as it was not only mating with her, but would jump on them with his erect penis! Ewwwwe. Yup, they know where babies come from.

Early one morning we shot a wild turkey to eat. They watched as it was cleaned and took the leg to school for show and tell. They were of course made fun of. City folk! They didn’t care, we fried up the turkey and probably had turkey sandwiches for lunch the next day!

The kids could tell you about each of the 27 kittens born on the farm over the years. They could also tell you how some get eaten, some don’t make it, some wondered away and some are still around. Some get fixed and then some stranger drops off another one. All have access to shelter and food. Lots of meowing in learning life lessons.

They are thoughtful enough to pick an apple from the orchard for animal treats and give carrots to the pet rabbit. They’ve rescued baby frogs and turtles that get stranded. One rescue attempt, led to a bite and a rabies scare. It was a baby beaver stuck in some undergrowth, before we knew it she picked it up to put it back in the water with it’s mom swimming on the other side. Mama beaver showed no signs of illness and neither did our kid. Whew.

We’ve watched the combine till the soil, plant corn or soybeans and watch the field come to life. Deer are around- tho not many bucks this year. Everyone always alert for coyote and skunks. We’ve become good at trapping varmints and getting better at our aim as well. And, yes they shoot. Only targets so far, they let the adults pull the trigger on the edibles. Imagine that will change as deer, rabbit & turkey season approaches.

The children participate in all sorts of extra curricular stuff that much to my dismay, begins almost as school lets out. They are also 4-H members and raise goats to show. Many friends raise animals for slaughter and the money goes toward college or they are awarded scholarships.

Bill Marler notes that today is a “Big Day for Challenge to U.S. Country-of-Origin Labeling Rule”
http://www.foodsafetynews.com/2013/08/u-s-country-of-origin-labeling-should-end-today-meat-industry-tells-court/

“Led by the powerful American Meat Institute, most of North America’s meat industry today will be asking a federal court in Washington, D.C., for a preliminary injunction to stop USDA from enforcing its new County-of-Origin Labeling (COOL) law.”

That’s just bullshit. It’s important to know where your food comes from, period. You need to know that your meat and for that matter all animals that we eat are reasonably inspected, killed humanely, treated humanely. And, if at all possible raised in the USA. The rules for raising commercial and show animals are cumbersome but tough crap. You think Japan isn’t selling Kobe beef raised near Fukushima?

We double dog dare you to find a veterinarian who will come to your farm! It isn’t cheap. Easy to take our dog, but you can’t exactly walk a horse or a goat into the vet office.

This week is the big livestock & agricultural fair that the kids have been awaiting all year long. Yea for rides, games, fried foods. It also means that all the veterinary inspections must be complete. Tagged, tattoos, shots, deworming etc. Money well spent. Our animals are healthy and we would expect no less from the others. A state and county approved vet come by every single day to check on every single animal. Last year the pigs were under a police tape because of the swine flu scare. More importantly there are hand sanitizing stations everywhere!

One kid is showing a Nigerian Dwarf Goat Whether. That means she had to watch as a rubber band shrunk his balls till they fell off. Yuck on the farm.

One kid is showing a cute little Pygmy goat. Both goats have been fed, washed, shaved and groomed so we are ready to go and compete for ribbons, not goat dinners.

Then there are the shoes and boots. Yes shoes- Muddy ones, snow ones, water boots, shit covered ones. And the nerve of those kids to grow! Oh and don’t forget about the clothes for all seasons and the mandatory outfits to show with your animal. Got news for you, it’s cold in winter taking care of animals that jump, play, and give unconditional love.

Lastly there is school. The children will be marked absent while learning more outside of the classroom than inside it. Common core suck btw, and so do Michelle Obama’s lunch of less than 1000 calories of Cisco processed food.

We are proud to be farmers and teach our children and the distant neighbors who aren’t farmers that live on a postage stamp where food comes from and the effort it takes. It’s heartwarming and often heartbreaking. We are not Duck Dynasty, but like them, thank God for our blessings.

No, it’s not easy being a farmer. It’s a great privilege to teach our children how to become a farmer- that is, if they choose not to be astronauts.

The flu is back in the news.
Last fall, 162 dead harbor seal pups washed up on the beaches of New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

In a paper published Tuesday in the journal mBio, a team of scientists reports that the pups were killed by a new strain of influenza. Their research indicates that the virus evolved from bird flu, gaining the ability to spread from seal to seal — a real-life example of the transformation that scientists have been exploring in their labs.

Within 24 hours, Dr. Anthony and his colleagues had discovered that all five seals carried an influenza virus. There have been a few documented flu outbreaks in seals, the most recent having hit in 1992. As far as scientists can tell, these outbreaks came directly from birds; the virus could not spread from mammal to mammal.

Within another 24 hours, the researchers had determined that the virus was a strain of the flu never seen in seals. The virus belongs to a flu subtype known as H3N8. H3N8 viruses have crossed over from birds to dogs and horses several times since 1960.  http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/31/science/flu-that-leapt-from-birds-to-seals-is-studied-for-human-threat.html?_r=2

162 seals did not eat the same bird to get the virus.  The H3N8 flu virus adapted to its mammal hosts. Just like when one person in your family gets the flu, they spread it to others. The good scientists knew this within 48 hours but it took them nearly 10 months to release their findings? uh, huh.  Far as we know there is no flu vaccine for the seals. There is one for chickens and Mexico is buying 10 millions of them to combat against the highly contagious bird flu strain that has already led to the deaths of five million birds which either fell ill or were slaughtered.

The virus responsible for the outbreak, H7N3, has occasionally affected humans in various parts of the world, according to the United Nations, but has not shown itself to be easily transmittable between humans. http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5hTu84YaVf49twHhy76fHBIAwzebQ?docId=CNG.3876fdf485e35325ed293043a826a741.f1 Would you rather eat a vaccinated chicken or an unvaccinated one?

The National Health, Food Safety and Food Quality Service (SENASICA)  reiterates that the H7N3 influenza virus poses no risk to humans, whether they are in contact with birds or poultry products, such as meat and eggs, and that the control measures are intended to protect the commercial poultry production in the area.

It was confirmed that three laboratories – Avimex, IASA and Ceva – will manufacture in Mexico some 80 million doses of the vaccine. Those will be available later this month to protect a population, initially, of 40 million birds. The production capacity of those companies may reach 350 million doses per month. http://meggidorising.wordpress.com/category/pestilence-and-vaccine-pestilences/

We begin to wonder if H7N3 poses no risk to humans, is there an increased chance of a vaccinated

chicken being more toxic?

Many vaccine manufacturers rely on using chicken eggs to harvest compounds for use in influenza vaccines.  Contaminated chickens, contaminated eggs being used in the processing of vaccines? Not everyone tho uses the chicken embryo, now we have them being processed with tobacco leaves.  Yep, likely government subsidized tobacco.

DARPA has been trying to determine new ways of churning out antidotes in as little time as possible. Now its researchers say, that in only a month, scientists produced more than 10 million doses (as defined in an animal model) of an H1N1 influenza vaccine candidatebased on virus-like particles (VLP).” Through DARPA’s previously established Blue Angel program, researchers have spent several years searching for new ways to produce mass quantities of vaccine-grade protein that could be used to combat what they say are very real emerging and novel biological threats. Andy Sheldon, Chief Executive Officer of Medicago , says in the company’s own press release that “The completion of the rapid fire test marks a substantial achievement in demonstrating our technology and the potential for Medicago to be the first responder in the event of a pandemic flu outbreak.”

Medicago’s research was conducted in a 97,000-square-foot vaccine facility in North Carolina that was funded through a $21 million Technology Investment Agreement with DARPA. http://deadlinelive.info/2012/07/31/darpas-blue-angel-pentagon-prepares-millions-of-vaccines-against-future-global-flu/

WHAT IS DARPA GOING TO DO WITH 10 MILLION TOBACCO BASED H1N1 VACCINES?

Not spooked out yet?  Twitter can tell you when you might get the flu with 90% accuracy with 8 days notice.

Our models enable you to see the spread of infectious diseases, such as flu, throughout a real-life population observed through online social media. http://socialmediatoday.com/marketmesuite/659406/wow-twitter-can-tell-you-when-you-are-going-get-sick

But, never forget the words of Rahm Emanuel: “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste.”  In 1918 the flu killed an estimated 50 million people. With the outbreak of H1N1 Swine Flu, The United States was declared to be in a State of Emergency by President Obama.  We have yet to see any evidence that he has repealed this declaration giving him full domain over the USA.

Smiling is infectious, you can catch it like the flu. Someone smiled at me today, And I started smiling too.

And the number one post in our Flu Section is about an associated rash from either the flu or the vaccine. https://ahrcanum.wordpress.com/2009/10/19/swine-flu-rash-hives-symptoms/

Stay tuned and have a good day, one day it will be your last.  God Bless.

What’s another $2 Billion on top of the $1 Billion for the Clunker Car Program?  I’ll tell you, it’s $3 Billion in bureaucratic chicken shit, that’s what it is.

“The House of Representatives approves $2 billion more for the popular but financially strapped “cash for clunkers” car purchase program, heeding calls from U.S. consumers who hope to keep taking advantage of the trade-in incentives.”

Called the Car Allowance Rebate System, or CARS, the program is designed to help the economy and the environment by spurring new car sales. Car owners can receive federal subsidies of up to $4,500 for trading in their old cars for new ones that achieve significantly higher gas mileage.  House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said the new money for the program would come from funds approved earlier in the year as part of an economic stimulus bill. http://money.aol.com/article/house-oks-2b-for-cash-for-clunkers/597445

Heeding calls from consumers?  Wake the frig up. I bet half the cars in the heap of trade ins aren’t worth that in the first place.  The banks will finance folks for the full amount of the new car until payments can’t be made and people default on the loan or lease.   If I got a check for $4500 and couldn’t make my house payment or buy food, the car payment is last on my list.

Betcha they don’t even have to be an American Made.  Oh WTF?  The government ran out of money on a clunker program the first week and people believe it can run our health care system?

Why not just give a few billion to ACORN so they can issue bad loans that will never get paid back again either.

I for one want to see exactly how many cars were sold last week, and under which brand- compared to the previous weeks sales.

Really, why not bail out the chicken farmer or the pork farmers with all this Swine and Avian Flu?  Oh, the privileges of socialism.

To quote Mr. Traficant, Beam me Up!

In adulthood and in childhood you pick a side and hope you win; you choose your favorite sports team and cheer for them.  The U.S. governement under Obama, is rooting for the whole world in negotiations and the U.S.  taxpayers is fighting a loosing battle.

As an NRA badge carrying, conservative Republican, it would be a cold day in hell before I sent the Democrats one red cent of my money.  America can’t always get what it wants, but by supporting two sides of a battle, it puts us in the middle where we  are most likely get run over.

Billions of dollars has been poured into the Mideast and you know what?  Most of the citizens and governments love our money, but hate America.  The jihadists will stop at nothing and what does America do, send more money!

From Fox News http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/07/24/transfers-million-aid-palestinian-authority-clinton-says/

“U.S. Transfers $200 Million in Aid to Palestinian Authority, Clinton Says.

The United States has transferred $200 million in aid for the Palestinian people, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Friday. The money was part of the assistance package announced at an international donors conference in March. Clinton, who spoke after returning from a visit to India and Thailand, said the money had been transferred directly to the Palestinian Authority. She said that she had been assured that President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Salam Fayyad “have put in place the foundations of a responsible, transparent, accountable government.” This had been verified, she said, by the World Bank, International Monetary Fund and internal reviews.

Financing both sides of this battle, especially when our own economy lies in tatters is near traitorous. To think that either side, or even that America has a “responsible, transparent, accountable government” borders on being laughable, but it is not funny.  Clinton also said, ” the United States would continue to engage Israel and the Palestinians in peace talks and press for a two-state solution, and called on the rest of the world to help boost the Palestinian economy.”  Humph. How about someone sending a check to America?  Maybe paying back the U.S. Taxpayer for WWI and WWII. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/4757181.stm

Last I heard, The Palestinian Authority (Hamas) is classified by the United States as a terrorist organization.

I’m all for peace in an idealistic world.  But, the world is filled with leaders who to torturous things to its own citizens and hold the threat of nuclear war out like the golden carrot to get more U.S. Dollars.  Still we try to place nice in the world even though North Korea’s government-controlled KCNA news agency suggested that ‘she [sic Clinton] is by no means intelligent’. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1201630/Playground-scrap-Hilary-Clinton-says-North-Korea-friends-primary-schoolgirl.html Yet, we will continue to negotiate not only with NK but other states defined once, as members of the Axis of Evil.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said Saturday the country would strike Israel’s nuclear facilities if Tel Aviv attacked the Islamic state, Reuters reported state television as saying “If the Zionist Regime (Israel) attacks Iran, we will surely strike its nuclear facilities with our missile capabilities,” Mohammad Ali Jafari, Guards commander-in-chief, said. Jafari said Israel was entirely within the reach of Iran. “Our missile capability puts all of the Zionist regime (Israel) within Iran’s reach to attack,” Jafari said. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,534800,00.html

Clinton said this week a nuclear Iran could be contained by a U.S. “defense umbrella,” setting off tremors in the Middle East. Since making the remark on a television chat show in Thailand, Clinton has backpedaled, saying she was only restating existing policy and not referring to any sort of formal guarantees of protection under an American “nuclear umbrella.”

Will we ballyhoo the doctrine of “preemption” in negotiations? Mr. President Obama- yet another test for you.  Perhaps both Clinton and Biden could shush for just a day.

How intelligent is our foreign policy when the chickens continue to try to cross the road from Israel, the fence stops them from laying eggs on the other side in Palestine- while Iran threatens to make a scrambled mess of the entire region?
