The USDOT was about to shut down construction projects and furlough about 2000 employees on Monday.  Who is to blame?  Senator Bunning who should, as Laura Ingram pointed out on her show yesterday, should win some kind of an award for trying to avoid further debt spending..

The Department of Transportation (WAS EXPECTED- Sic) will furlough nearly 2,000 employees without pay Monday, temporarily shutting down highway reimbursements to states worth hundreds of millions of dollars, national anti-drunk driving efforts, and multi-million dollar construction projects across the country.

The action comes as a result of Kentucky Sen. Jim Bunning’s decision to block key legislation that would have extended several critical priorities for middle class families. That legislation covered tax credits for COBRA health coverage, unemployment insurance for 400,000 people, as well as the short-term extension of the Highway Trust Fund. The Fund supports all surface transportation programs for the nation – highways, bridges, transit and safety inspections, as well as efforts to encourage seat belt use and to fight distracted and impaired driving.http://www.dot.gov/affairs/2010/dot3610.htm

We understand some of these projects are probably necessary, but when it comes down to putting in sidewalks in the Virgin Islands and making the entryway more appealing at Sequoia National Park- you have to stop right there and say enough is enough.  These are not projects that we would define as critical as LaHood claims.

LaHood saying, “The action comes as a result of Kentucky Sen. Jim Bunning’s decision to block key legislation,” is politics at its best.  The action comes on the heels of the largest debt the U.S. has ever-seen with President Obama signing away billions in federal funding.

The mention of spending  federal funds for seat belt education just boils my blood.  Mandatory seat belt laws gave police the right to pull you over and cite you with a ticket if they see you driving with out being buckled up.  Click it or Ticket.   In our state you are required then to attend a government sponsored traffic and education program that you are also required to pay for.

We wear our seat belts not because the government makes us but because it saves lives. In fact we were rear ended by a drunk who managed to literally leave tire tracks on the driver side doors.  Kids in the car seats with adults buckled up thankfully.  We were okay, he on the other hand flew through the window.  Jackass.  MADD- Mother’s Against Drunk Driving has good intentions but to receive federal funding at a time when many Americans can’t afford to buy a new car?

“The Senate acted late tonight to break its logjam, extending the Highway Trust Fund for another 30 days,” wrote Ray LaHood http://fastlane.dot.gov/2010/03/senate-extends-highway-trust-fund-dot-employees-back-on-the-job-wednesday.html.

Here’s a look at some of the “critical” construction projects that you are paying for:

Utah Bear River Access Road $13,800,000
Virginia/DC George Washington Parkway Humpback Bridge replacement $36,000,000
Virginia Blue Ridge Parkway reconstruction and resurfacing $12,000,000
Virginia Petersburg Park tour road relocation $1,500,000
Puerto Rico Vieques National Wildlife Refuge road and bridge reconstruction $6,000,000

U.S. Virgin Islands Long Bay Road reconstruction $5,500,000
U.S. Virgin Islands University of Virgin Island sidewalk construction $988,000
U.S. Virgin Islands North Shore Road reconstruction $448,000

Enough with the national monuments and national parks, how about fixing some simple potholes on the nation’s highways first?

Note that 37.5 million is being spent in Nancy Pelosi’s home state of California, and 37.2 million in the Virgin Islands.  Yes, the Virgin Islands- must be all that snow that they are getting from global warming tearing up the road surfaces.

All those projects and only 2000 employees were going to be effected?  What?  Are these the people that sit in offices or the actual construction workers themselves?  How much money are we talking about in salary for these 2,000 people? How much money did everyone of those stupid dot gov recovery gov signs cost?  There’s some savings for you!

More information is also available at Secretary LaHood’s twitter account, www.twitter.com/RayLaHood, and at his facebook page, www.facebook.com/sec.lahood. should you want to ask him why the investigation of Toyota has taken so long as well.

As for Bunning, pretty disgraceful of the Republicans to not stand by his side.  He may be long off the pitcher’s mound, but don’t think for one minute he isn’t going to throw another curve ball when it comes to spending.

Next time around, we would hope the Republicans, and hope against hope that some Democrat would rise up and catch the foul ball in the debt game that the Senate is playing.

2009 Pontiac Solstice Concept Car

It is almost official that Winter is here.  The ground has been frozen for sometime and the flurries have been flying.  At 12:47 today Winter Solstice 2009 begins officially.  It is also the shortest day of the year.  The word solstice derives from Latin, Winter Solstice meaning Sun set still in winter and usually associated with a time of rebirth with celebrations like Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, festivals of light, etc.  We even got invited to a Solstice Party, since it is no longer correct to say or celebrate Christmas.  Gag me, we sent our regrets.

We’ve been going to bed when it is dark and waking up when it is dark so the idea that the days will now begin to get longer, gives us hope that spring will eventually return. Too bad we will probably never see this Solstice concept car on the roads free of snow, gravel and salt.  The Pontiac division of GM has been shuttered along with any future plans to make this vehicle.

Today’s Solstice chart shows a tight conjunction of the Sun to Pluto, planet of death and rebirth, suggesting that something will end during this period and something born anew.  Because Pluto is still widely challenging Saturn in a square formation this change and transformation will likely not come easily.  Something that is already established (Saturn) will have to be surrendered (Pluto) in order for evolution to occur. http://blog.beliefnet.com/astrologicalmusings/2009/12/the-astrology-chart-of-the-200.html

Unfortunately, that which is being surrendered is your personal choice in health care as the Senate has enough votes to pass sweeping, pork laden legislation.  The evolution of government run health programs is laughable considering social security, medicaid, medicare, etc., are already nearly broke. The government also owns 61% of General Motors- the future is still out on that investment.  Our debt is in the trillions and the government accounting office is setting off alarm bells at the cost of free health care.  Equally as alarming, “The Congressional Budget Office, however, determined that the 90 percent requirement that Franken and Rockefeller had pushed for amounted to nationalization of the industry.’ via http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/12/19/franken-dems-unified-behi_n_398183.html

Throw in the fact that President Obama’s cap n crap bill, the land management bill that will give the government control of not just navigable waters- but puddles in your yard, and a future climate change treaty, it is enough to ruin any one’s Solstice Party.  Can anyone think of anything at all that the government does not have a hand in?

While there are still people who believe global warming and climate change is man made, much of the world is digging out from massive snow storms.  Valdez, Alaska got almost 6 feet of snow, the last couple of days buried most of the northeast and “The heaviest snowfall and extremely cold weather for years has brought much of the U.K. and Europe to a standstill in the last couple of day’s, five trains where stranded in the Channel tunnel and thousands of weather related accidents have been reported and thousands of travellers are stranded waiting for cancelled flights! via http://gazbom.blogspot.com/2009/12/severe-winter-arrives-in-northern.html?spref=tw.  We got an email from Target letting us know due to the weather it was extending is hours to 7 am – midnight to accommodate last minute capitalists.

Living Through The Looking Glass, who writes at http://creativehealinggoddess.wordpress.com/2009/12/21/goal-setting-during-the-winter-solstace/   says, “The period is  from the 21st to the 23rd (this is a three-day portal) so during this time the use of  tapping into your creativity  to plan and find out what is really needed right now and what needs to be done to bring harmony into your  life.  This is also a time to seed  your dreams, pay attention to your dreams, and keep your body free from foods that are going to shut down your Intuition.  Use the energy of the number 3 to bring yourself into alignment with Spirit, and the energy of the number to build and give structure which is needed at this time.”

What is really needed is to vote out our elected officials and start with a clean bill of health.  For the record, not one Republican voted for this health care bill.

The elections are far off.  In the meantime you might as well celebrate Solstice and have a Merry Christmas while your at it.

While the man who came to be called “the most trusted man in America,” Walter Cronkite http://www.theodoresworld.net/archives/2009/07/communist_and_traitor_walter_c.htmldied at the age of 92, and Niel Armstrong took one big step for America, today is Ted Kennedy’s anniversary of the events of Chappaquiddick.

Marking 40 years since the death of Mary Jo Kopechne who died in the car Ted Kennedy was driving when he drove a car off a bridge on Chappaquiddick Island off Martha’s Vineyard- the headline news will barely take note, instead focusing on CIA Investigations and Health Care Reform.

Massachusetts voters have continued to elect him overlooking his wretched decision to walk away from the car and continuing to elevate his status in the world of politics.  Kennedy is the Senate’s second-longest serving member, won’t be up for election again until 2012. Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W.Va is the longest serving.  Unless by some miracle he will not live to see another election with his name on the ballot.  He was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor May of 2008 and doctors estimated he had one year to live.

The Kennedy family has been struck by tragedy repeatedly. Oldest brother, Joseph, died in a World War II plane crash.  President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963 in front of TV Cameras, and Sen. Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1968.

No doubt Ted Kennedy will be hailed a hero too when he finally passes on.  The accolades had just begun when learning of the diagnosis.  “He fights for what he thinks is right. And we want to make sure that he’s fighting this illness,” Obama said Tuesday. http://wbztv.com/politics/Kennedy.brain.tumor.2.728499.html  Is sure as hell wasn’t right to leave his aid, Mary Jo Kopechne submerged in water for hours while he got his story straight.  It sure as hell won’t be right when his status gets another bump toward being a hero after his death.

He belongs in the sea of shame and God will be his judge.

Lyrics from Sympathy for the Devil, The Rolling Stones,http://www.lyricsfreak.com/r/rolling+stones/sympathy+for+the+devil_20117881.html

…I shouted out,
Who killed the kennedys?
When after all
It was you and me
Let me please introduce myself
Im a man of wealth and taste
And I laid traps for troubadours
Who get killed before they reached bombay
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
But whats puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah, get down, baby
Pleased to meet you
Hope you guessed my name, oh yeah
But whats confusing you
Is just the nature of my game
Just as every cop is a criminal
And all the sinners saints
As heads is tails
Just call me lucifer
cause Im in need of some restraint
So if you meet me
Have some courtesy
Have some sympathy, and some taste
Use all your well-learned politesse
Or Ill lay your soul to waste, um yeah
Pleased to meet you

5:25 August fifth, 1962
Found her lying on her chest
Her face all turning blue
You think it was an overdose
But could it have been the pact
Could it have been the Kennedy’s
Was it LAPD

Iwanna be a kennedy
i wanna be a big heartbreaker
live fast and for real
and you can follow it in the papers
i wanna be a kennedy
i wanna shake hands with heroes
and kiss the girls of centerfolds on the toung
and die young

Oh, my mother is old and my father is dead
And my brother is dead and my brother is dead
And my brother is dead and kid has one leg
And my wife is a drunk and my car doesn’t float.

The circus used to come only once a year when I was a kid. As an adult, it shames me that this political circus and financial conundrum is playing out on a daily basis in all of America .  The whole world is shaking its head while the media parades it’s selective stories.

Who raised these leaders who have raped the fabric of our Democracy?  “Wasn’t daddy there to change your underwear?”- from Austin Powers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zN6MxLYB8hM

Having dirty underwear is pretty shitty and lots of politicians are shitting themselves about now.  Guilt by association doesn’t hold up in a court of law, but added up- circumstantial evidence just might.  Patrick Fitzgerald said, “The citizens of Illinois deserve public officials who act solely in the public’s interest, without putting a price tag on government appointments, contracts and decisions.”  I believe he misspoke.  No one in America deserves the hand that has been dealt, not just those in Illinois.

Fitzgerald has been compared to the likes of crime fighter Elliot Ness, and with good reason.  http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/profiles/3710309/Profile-Patrick-Fitzgerald-a-modern-day-Eliot-Ness.html.  At a time when so many Americans have lost faith in our public representatives and the pervasive lack of accountability, it is inspiring to see a man of true integrity and perseverance is just one of many comments on his blog, From the Desk of Patrick Fitzgerald, Fighting for Truth Justice and The American Way, http://patrickjfitzgerald.blogspot.com/2008/12/king-solomon-sen-patrick-j-fitzgerald-i.html

“He doesn’t shy away from indictments because of political party, holiday season or anything else,” said Cindi Canary, executive director of the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform.  http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/10/us/10fitzgerald.html?_r=1&hp

After nearly a trillion dollar bailout of whom we are still not sure, the Senate in D.C., blocked money for the Big 3 Automakers.  The Union said no wage concessions and that put a stop to it right there.  Unless GWB, the guy who is still our current President, has something up his sleeve -expect to see a huge deficit in the GDP and pronto.

About the same time in NY,  Bernie Madoff  the former chairman of the Nasdaq Stock Market who founded Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC, the closely held market-making firm was running a hedge fund under an alleged ponzi scheme that racked up billions of fraudulent losses.

Madoff told senior employees of his firm on Wednesday that “it’s all just one big lie” and that it was “basically, a giant Ponzi scheme,” with estimated investor losses of about $50 billion, according to the U.S. Attorney’s criminal complaint against him. Marketwatch reports, “Madoff counted several large hedge fund investment firms as clients, along with some European banks, so if his firm has lost more than $50 billion, the impact could be widespread. ”  Ever generous, Madoff donated $25,ooo to a Democratic Senatorial Campaign, September 08.  http://www.opensecrets.org/indivs/donor_lookup.php?name=Madoff

Madoff is sure right about the big lie. Look at him, no really look at him here http://www.iliketotellstories.com/2008/12/50-billion-bernard-madoff.html in this photo, this face is someone’s son that it seems willingly defrauded investors like you and me.   Handsome by all accounts, looks honest, an upstanding kind of guy, innocent until proven otherwise.

First rule, don’t shit where you eat.  American’s are weary of all the shit.  The rest of the world is shitting itself that capitalism equates only to greed and corruption and is faltering under the weight of it’s own democracy.  Untold thousands continue to pour in to our borders legally and illegally America, with all her faults, is still the land of opportunity and the greatest nation on earth.

Obama has preached change and transparency but the desire to do so is far removed from what we have seen in his post election cycle.  Obama has had an excuse for every questionable thing and associate he has ever had.   Obama lists among his associates not only Rashid Khalidi, but” Rezko and Auchi, Odinga, Ayers, The New Black Panther Party, La Raza, Farrakhan, and how could we forget his holiness in hate, the mentor to Barack….Mr. Wright…..” http://www.floppingaces.net/2008/03/23/the-obama-associates/ who upon “God damning” America, said that Wright’s “comments were divisive and destructive.”

“Obama is not the Agent of Change. He is a calculating politician who plays the game the same way politicians have been playing it for hundreds of years – receiving money in exchange for favors from government for his friends and cronies.”  http://rightwingnuthouse.com/archives/2008/02/26/will-dirty-chicago-politics-be-the-undoing-of-obama/

The article “Will Dirty Chicago Politics be the Undoing of Obama” seems to have hit the nail on the head some 10 months later.  He goes on to say, “The Obama-Rezko relationship must be understood in the context of the influence peddling, the casual corruption, the cronyism, the favoritism shown in less than open bidding – all part of a city and state political culture where the politician, the businessman, and the crook frequently rub elbows and sometimes wear each other’s hats.

Hell, remember all the brew ha ha over Ayers and the Obama’s hanging out at a dinner for Khalidi?  The LA Times refused to release the tape and then there we rewards issued for it, including one from Dune Capital.

Dune Holdings is part of Dune Capital Management LP, started by some people from Goldman Sachs. Founded by Steven T. Mnuchin who has donated a total of $14,400 to Democrats in the past year, including the max $2,300 to Obama. http://www.opensecrets.org/indivs/donor_lookup.php?name=Mnuchin

Seems when Dune Capital first volunteered a $100k reward for the Khalidi tapes, Penny Pritzker (Obama’s finance chairman) and Daniel Niedich (Secretary of Dune Capital) sit together on a Real Estate board.  http://www.dreier.house.gov/pdf/RER%20-%20HR1500%20Support.pdf

Dune Capital also donated to his campaign http://74.125.45.104/search?q=cache:dpUonTZSoxAJ:www.nndb.com/org/037/000171521/+dune+capital+holdings%2Bbarack+obama&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=2&gl=us.  The Tribune Company, http://www.tribune.com/which owns the LA Times sued to open up Jack Ryan’s divorce file.   Perhaps thats why Obama was able to walk into his Senate seat, virtually unopposed.

I am beginning to think Obama paid for the tape himself.  Obama made no comment that I could find, instead the campaign insisted that its candidate “has been clear that Rashid Khalidi is not an adviser to him or his campaign and that he does not share Khalidi’s views.”

What did Obama have to say about Rezko? ” I am saddened…this isn’t the Tony Rezko I knew, now he has been convicted by a jury on multiple charges that once again shine a spotlight on the need for reform. ”  Upon learning about Blago’s arrest,  Obama told reporters he was saddened and sobered. “I had no contact with the governor or his office and so I was not aware of what was happening.” http://www.chicagobreakingnews.com/2008/12/source-feds-take-gov-blagojevich-into-custody.html  America is saddened with you, President- elect Obama not only for you but for America herself.  America was also saddened to learn that Clinton really did have sex with that woman.

We will all be saddened to know if Obama was directly connected to the Pay for Play scam.  http://prairiepundit.blogspot.com/2008/12/emanuel-talked-with-blagojevich.html reports that Rahm Emanuel did have discussions with the Governors administration about possible candidates for the job.  Probably all in the course of a days work.  Right?  The criminal complaint exonerates Obama and his staff, Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell said, because it quotes Blagojevich as saying the president-elect would offer him nothing but appreciation for appointing Obama confidant Valerie Jarrett to the position.  http://www.swamppolitics.com/news/politics/blog/2008/12/rendell_hits_obama_on_blago_st.html

The circus days of the past conjure up aromas of French fries, hot dogs, and buttery popcorn while the sounds were of calliopes.  As today’s circus stars of Blago, Rezko and Obama rolls through main street and main stream media, we smell a rat and now hear the same old song of deceit.

God Bless America
