While not eliminated, the last infected human case of SARS was in June 2003. There is no rapid response testing for SARS. Canada is now reporting infected pigs. While the drugs are far from a cure, they seems to have some treatment properties for the standard flu and apparently in some cases, Swine Flu. An Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) was issued by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to allow either the use of an unapproved medical product or an unapproved use of an approved medical product during certain types of emergencies with specified agents.

WHO has a new designation for The Swine Fly Outbreak that is more politically correct, user friendly, non- offending to Mexicans or to The Pork Industry. H1N1 influenza A., the swine flu virus originated in pigs, and has genes from human, bird and pig viruses. Scientists are trying to figure out how it jumped and mutated to humans. In the current outbreak, WHO says the virus is being spread from human to human, not from contact with infected pigs.

In changing the name, does it impersonalize it? Will it bring awareness that while this outbreak seems to have originated in Mexico, it is in fact a worldwide threat of near epic proportion. While not always accurate in naming the flu from it’s point of origin- Legionaries was from The American Legion conference, Asian Flu from Asia, Swine Flu from Swine, Spanish Flu (1918-1919), Hong Kong Flu (1968-1969), Russian Flu (1977-1978), Beijing Flu (1993-1994), Sydney Flu (1998-1999). Americans from America, Italians from Italy, the flu from Mexico- H1N1.

Filed under- a flea on a camel’s ass is smarter, a Geneva lab has had Vials of “innocuous swine flu virus” explode on an intercity train, prompting police to stop passengers before departure. A laboratory technician from a Geneva hospital had been transporting the vials on Monday evening from a veterinary institute in Zürich when they supposedly exploded on their own.

On April 6 2009- prior to Obama’s arrival in Mexico, local health officials declared a health alert due to a respiratory disease outbreak in the Mexican town of La Gloria in Veracruz state. The World Health Organization raised its pandemic alert level over the deadly swine flu virus to a phase 4, on a scale of 6 noting that the infection could spread between humans to cause community level outbreaks. This latest outbreak of swine flu appears to combine bird, swine and human viruses in a way that hasn’t been seen before.
The WHO said closing the borders would not do any good, “containment of the outbreak is not feasible. The current focus should be on mitigation measures”. The plane looks like it is on maneuvers rather than a sightseeing mission. C’mon conspiracy theorists! It resembled Air Force One on a “pre-planned” military flight taking photos of the Statue of Liberty and Lower Manhattan, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

1. The Department of Defense (DOD), in coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), will conduct a flying photo op in the New York City Area on April 27, 2009 involving a transport and fighter aircraft. Below are the details regarding the operation.
• Date: Monday April 27, 2009 (Primary), April 28 or April 30 (weather backup dates)
• Number / Type Aircraft: 1 VC-25 and 2 F-16s. Actual photo op will only have VC25 and 1 F16.
• Callsign: VENUS01
• Departure point: ADW
• Arrival point: ADW
• Flight Plan: Crews will file two separate IFR flight plans:
ADW-JFK: KADW.. PALEO V44 SIE CAMRN4 JFK
Requested altitude FL190B210
EWR-ADW: KEWR..EWR7.BIGGY J75 MXE V378 BAL KADW
• Planned Departure Time: 0930 approximately
• Planned Time On Photo Op Location: 10:00 -10:30L.
• Planned Photo Op Altitude: 1000-1500ft
• Number of Passes: 2, possibly 3
The aircraft will depart ADW via IFR clearance as a three (3) ship formation to Sea Isle (SIE). At SIE one (1) of the fighters will leave the flight and return to ADW IFR via SIE ATR V308 BILIT ADW.
The VC25 and 1 F16 will proceed IFR to CAMRN intersection south of JFK. In the vicinity of CAMRN intersection the aircraft will cancel IFR and proceed VFR with New York TRACON (N90) towards the Verranzano Bridge. N90 will hand the aircraft off to Newark Tower (EWR) for the flight in the Upper NY and Newark Bay. Upon completion of the final pass the aircraft will be treated as a EWR departure and pickup an IFR clearance back to ADW.
The photo op portion of the flight will be VFR in accordance with the specified ground track as per the attached map (Attachment 1). On the northbound flight segments the fighter aircraft will be offset to the east by approximately ½ mile. During the southbound flight segment the fighter will re-position to remain offset to the aircraft within the depicted box.
The operation will be monitored by FAA Air Traffic Security Coordinators (ATSC) at the Domestic Event Network at FAA Headquarters from start to finish. Any questions or issues can be directed to the FAA ATSC at the DEN. The FAA ATSC can be reached at (202) 493-5107.

This is a test. For the next sixty (or thirty) seconds, this station will conduct a test of the Emergency Broadcast System. This is only a test, testing to see how people respond for 30 or 60 seconds when a jet is dive bombing NYC.
Although Bama has gotten a clean bill of health from his visit to Mexico April 16, hundreds more cases are being reported with lab results being forwarded to the CDC and WHO for typing. The CDC analysis is showing the disease is a mixture of swine, human and avian (bird)viruses that has NEVER EVER been seen before. Some of those who died have been confirmed to have the unique version of the A/H1N1 flu virus.
The jury is still out on what caused the mutation and its ability to spread by human to human contact. Could the recent flu be a human error in a vaccine mixing process called reassortment? Could it be a freak of nature? Could it be some sort of terrorist attack? A petting zoo? Bacon and eggs?
Whatever the cause, the world is hustling to reduce the spread of the flu and reduce panic at the same time. Mexican government authorities were slow to connect the dots in this near pandemic, resulting in a delay in identifying what was making hundreds ill and causing nearly 100 deaths of otherwise healthy people.
Countries around the world aren’t following in the lazy footsteps of Mexican Health Officials, nor are they waiting to see if the threat level officially labeled as a pandemic, or potential pandemic. Erring on the side of caution before it is too late, some countries have begun quarantines and confinements, but clearly not in American cities.
Along the US border, screening for swine flu exposure began this morning as the European Union advised against nonessential travel to Mexico and America. From AP http://www.ap.org/ – “The U.S. declared a national health emergency Sunday in the midst of confusion…the move allowed the government to ship roughly 12 million doses of flu-fighting medications from a federal stockpile to states in case they eventually need them.”
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, called the emergency declaration “standard operating procedure,” instead urging “people to think of it as a ‘declaration of emergency preparedness.'”
President Obama is set to address the health crisis Monday in remarks to a meeting of the nation’s top scientists says US News http://www.usnews.com/usnews/politics/bulletin/bulletin_090427.htm. His administration sought on Sunday to strike a balance, informing Americans without panicking them. The Swine Flu story has been around for days and Obama has finally decided to officially inform Americans. Whew!
