Outside the ground is frozen, quite possibly covered in snow and ice, and yet, stroll through a supermarket in North America or Europe in February, and you’ll be confronted with large displays of roses. We expect flowers in winter, and equatorial countries meet those expectations. A quarter of the cut flowers sold in Europe are grown in Kenya. Straddling the equator, Kenya gets steady sunlight dealt out in days that vary little in length. It’s the perfect climate for flowers year-round. The Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) flying on NASA’s Terra satellite captured this image of Lake Naivasha on February 2, 2008. Bright white squares mix with fields of green, tan, and purple along the shores of the lake. Sunlight glints off the long rows of glass greenhouses, turning them silvery blue and white in this view from space.
Fallow fields are tan and pink, while growing plants turn the ground bright green. Roses, lilies, and carnations are the most common flowers grown in the greenhouses and fields scattered around the lake. The large-scale industry shown here extends into small-scale rural farms elsewhere in Kenya, where smaller filler flowers are grown.
The flowers provide an important source of income to Kenya, but the industry comes with a price. Flowers are not held to the same standards for chemical residues as food products, which are tightly regulated. Strong chemical pesticides can be used on the flowers to produce the perfect, pest-free bloom, and this could pose a health risk to workers and local wildlife, including hippos, environmental groups told the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 2002. The chemicals may also have threatened the water quality of Lake Naivasha, one of Kenya’s few freshwater lakes. The Kenya Flower Council instituted a code of conduct establishing guidelines for pesticide that phases out the use of one of the most toxic pesticides.

A full-disk multiwavelength extreme ultraviolet image of the sun taken by SDO on March 30, 2010
NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory, SDO the space telescope designed to study the sun released it’s first images this week and they are spectacular.
Launched on February 11th from Cape Canaveral, the observatory has spent the past two months moving into a geosynchronous orbit and activating its instruments. As soon as SDO’s telescope doors opened, the spacecraft began beaming back scenes so beautiful and puzzlingly complex that even seasoned observers were stunned, reported NASA.
“The Helioseismic Magnetic Imager (HMI) is performing splendidly,” reports HMI principal investigator Phil Scherrer of Stanford University. “We’re getting very high-quality, high signal-to-noise data.”
The Extreme UV Variability Experiment (EVE) is online, too, “and we’re getting great data as well,” says principal investigator Tom Woods of the University of Colorado, Boulder.
EVE monitors the sun where it is most variable—in the extreme UV part of the electromagnetic spectrum. At these wavelengths, the brightness of the sun can rise and fall a hundredfold in the blink of an eye, heating and “puffing up” Earth’s upper atmosphere, and dragging down satellites. HMI and EVE and the entire SDO seems to be operating splendidly, but unfortunately it took three weeks for NASA to reveal any images. Unprecedented time should allow for real time images, but us mere earthlings will have to wait another month for daily images. The implications of such detailed events on the sun will surely have this tinfoil hat wearing observer looking to coordinate data, to earth events like volcano’s and earthquakes.
The observatory is still being commissioned, and a good deal of testing and calibration remains to be done before regular, daily images become available in mid-May.

All looks calm on the sun today, unless you look at the images from STEREO from behind.
Itunes offers a free app for SOHO (SOHO Viewer) and also STEREO (3D Sun) and for $1.99 the Solar Monitor app is well worth it in providing additional information with the images. All three are in near real time.
Someone needs to comes up with an application that links solar activity to earthquakes and volcano’s, but it won’t be me. Maybe take it farther to coordinate with seismographs around the world?

There have been three 5+M Earthquakes this morning alone: Bio Bio Chile 5.9M, Eastern New Guinea 5.3M, Guam 5.4.

The Shiveluch, and Kliuchevskoi volcano’s in Russia are showing increased seismic activity and increased thermal anomalies as well.

Mars ended its significant visibility from Earth on Thursday night, March 25, 2010. It is still there though but fading and it will not come close to earth again until 2012.

There is no such planet, though it is often equated with Eris, a plutoid orbiting safely and permanently beyond Pluto. Some insist, however, that a NASA conspiracy is in play and that Nibiru, looming in on the approach, can already be seen in broad daylight from the Southern Hemisphere. After 75 years of speculation and false leads, it has finally happened. A team of astronomers using the 48-inch Samuel Oschin Telescope at Palomar Observatory and the 8-meter Gemini North telescope on Mauna Kea, Hawaii, has discovered the largest Kuiper Belt object (KBO) ever. It is bigger than Pluto, the 9th planet. The object, designated 2003 UB313, is currently 97 astronomical units (Earth-Sun distances) away — more than twice Pluto’s average distance from the Sun. Planet X remains hypothetical in this list, even though NASA has confirmed it’s existence? Is there more than one planet out there that has been identified, but it’s information not released?
There are hundreds, if not thousands+ of planet–sized objects known and yet unknown, but what are the chances that the same coordinates line up to a predicted end of time? What of the Kuiper belt?
The Kuiper belt is a great ring of debris similar to the asteroid belt, but it is composed mainly of ice. Kuiper extends between 30 and 50 AU from the Sun, and it is composed mainly of small solar system bodies. Many large objects are in the Kuiper belt such as Pluto, Quaor, Varuna, and Orcus which may be reclassified as dwarf planets

This morning, the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory recorded a halo CME emerging from the vicinity of sunspot 1054: movie. The cloud appears to be heading toward Earth and it could spark geomagnetic storms when it arrives on or about March 17th. This Coronal Mass Ejection or CME’s appear to be related to the impact of a series of comets that plunged into the sun and disappeared on March 14, 2010.

Some claim that there is a magnetic reversal going on as illustrated in the above video. A perfect storm for the 2012 doomsday believers.
Among other things that could alter the magnetosphere are experiments from HAARP, who temporarily excite a limited area of the ionosphere by beaming what it claims is very low frequency radio waves (VLF’s).
According to the HAARP website, it’s transmitter “becomes useless during a geomagnetic storm. During these common solar induced events, the natural variations reach a level that is more than 10,000 times stronger than any variation that HAARP could produce… The Earth’s static magnetic field, in turn, is more than 1,000 times stronger than the variations that occur during a magnetic storm and more than 10,000,000 times stronger than the variations that HAARP could produce.”
In turn, if HAARP really has, could, would or had influence on earthquakes; it is clearly giving warning that a magnetic storm could greatly impact the earth.
HAARP and EISCAT do heat the atmosphere, and CERN and FERMI do heat the underground. Up and down the Earth is being bombarded by artificially created energy that has to go somewhere. Numerous sites like Aaronsrealityhttp://aaronsreality.blogspot.com/ claim that the use of HAARP can not cause earthquakes saying it doesn’t have enough power. Although he speculates:
HAARP could be prepared to move the discharge if possible. The calculation requires knowledge of the discharge fault and attraction/repulsive power necessary to move it a few hundred miles out of populated areas. Moving the discharge may reduce the discharge from one 7-9 magnitude earthquake to many 4 and 5s.
The Calm Before The Magnetic Storm on The Chicago River
As a geomagnetic storm approaches, the Lurking on the Grassy Knoll Institute noted that every year since 1961, for the St. Patrick’s Day parade, the city dyes the Chicago river green. The probabilities for significant disturbances in Earth’s magnetic field are currently 30%-35% probability in the next 24-48 hours says SpaceWeather. Is that percentage enough to warrant preventative measures against additional large quakes or at the very least loosing cell phone and Internet services?
A poster on the popular Godlike Productions message board predicted large quakes might occur on February 27. At 3:45 AM today, a magnitude 8.8 earthquake struck Chile, the fifth or sixth strongest quake of the last 100 years. The poster, “ZOSIME,” based his prediction on the impact of a coronal mass ejection (CME) upon the earth’s magnetosphere. After a solar storm strikes the Earth a geomagnetic storm erupts. The increased magnetic field strength of the magnetosphere pushes down on the ionosphere, which pushes against the oceans. It is due to the electromagnetic properties of sea water that the oceans become temporarily heavier. The extra heaviness of the sea water, coupled with the daily tidal forces of the Sun and Moon cause greater than normal forces to press against both the eastern and western boundaries of the Pacific Plate, but more so the western boundary in the South Pacific Islands region.
Ironically, “An instrument package set for launch by NASA on Feb. 10 is expected to give scientists a better understanding of the sun’s impact on space weather. The Extreme Ultraviolet Variability Experiment (EVE) will fly on NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) and measure rapid fluctuations in the sun’s extreme ultraviolet output that can have profound effects on Earth’s upper atmosphere.” Unfortunately, “the transfer to GEO orbit and commissioning of instruments are expected to take ~3 months. http://lasp.colorado.edu/eve/data/data_product_summary.htm
To be precautionary, first unplug anything connected to the electrical grid to prevent power surges. Next head out for some green eggs, and corned beef then wash it down with a green beer or two. When we see the Leprechauns running for cover, and the sky turning green we’ll know if the luck of the Irish holds out for Earth’s electronic grids.
