I can’t stop thinking about the lady in the George Zimmerman case who couldn’t read cursive. So what? One of my kids got an F in cursive in 5thG and can type up a storm on texting and keypads. Who gives a kid an F in cursive anyway?

One of our daughters is behind the pace of her peers w auditory & visual processing, writing, & math. By no means stupid, she reads 4 grades above her current level. It’s a struggle, can’t remember to pickup messes and on to something else. Not ADD, just distracted. Focuses in the now. Not sure there is anything wrong with that-when you are a kid.

Looking at a paper she had to write, she is kind and considerate of the battle of war & race. Her teacher decided to rewrite her story, managing to forget the period at the end of the sentence. No stars or stickers for my kids efforts.

With educational accommodations, the kid wants to be a veterinarian or maybe an astronaut. We’ve given in to every critter imaginable to encourage learning, compassion and love. Chickens, goats, cats, turtles, fish, horses, hamsters, and even a donkey. She knows we have more than 900 exoplanets and that I wanted to be a quantum physicist all my life. My math skill deficiency prevented that- I learn on line, as do they. I ask questions from the likes of Dr. Bob and others on Twitter, who kindly respond to me and the kids most basic questions. Not old enough for their own Twitter accounts, they think a reply from
@genejm29 @cupsdaddy @satispy is like a rock star autograph!

All the kids are space nuts w Satellite & planet apps for viewing and making wishes upon falling stars. Friends think they are nutty until one of the kids finds the ISS w out an app. Funny, they believe in UFO’s- that they are friendly, and just maybe God created them to come to Earth and make people.

I ended up w 3 degrees- Pre-law, Communications and somehow managed enough credits for a Sociology degree. While certainly not brilliant, to see your child struggle just sucks. How is learning so easy for some and not others? Because everyone learns differently. We tell them only God is perfect and he has a plan for you- that you must guide yourself to knowledge, because it is power.

We also remind them how Margret Thatcher was a Prime Minister, but women can’t drive or vote in many parts of the world. That women can be property and to own yourself with good choices. They know about Benghazi, Fort Hood, yesterday’s NavyYard shooting and they watched people fall from WTC. Duck Dynasty might say we teach, “That’s the facts, Jack.”

In 7th & 8th G, they can write a check, have filled out job applications, know what tuition costs & that u have to pay taxes on everything from property to a Popsicle. All the things that school is negligent in teaching. X + Y = U fail.

We all follow politics and Mrs O lunches. They know what it is to pay taxes on an allowance & that social security may not exist when they are old. They held their grandmother’s hand when she died and took the chickens to slaughter. They have killed what we have eaten and are not a bad shot with what is now politically correct to call a, “long gun.” Farmer’ daughters!

The kids loves to paint, everything from funky fingernail designs to originals on paper. Ask what they want
to be when they grows up. “Happy,” is the reply. Good enough. I grew up to be a parent, farmer & happy. Lucky me, I found love along the way. Occasionally the degrees come in handy, but life lessons on how to make others happy has been far more rewarding.

Now we face another round of mandated educational testing in order to receive special accommodations to learn what is taught. The state, district and probably another trip to a renowned neurological clinic to rule out any medical issues. Yep, only God is perfect.

Oh, and common core sucks, but life doesn’t.

Hope u enjoy the read and share here or on twitter.

Martin Luther King, “I have a Dream.”

And this will be the day — this will be the day when all of God’s children will be able to sing with new meaning:
My country ’tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing.
Land where my fathers died, land of the Pilgrim’s pride,
From every mountainside, let freedom ring!
And if America is to be a great nation, this must become true.”  August 1963.

Is freedom ringing?

Criticism of color barely begins to describe what the American government did to pry into King’s personal life and so many others during the 50’s and 60’s. If you disagreed with the government, you were shall we say likely to have been, ‘looked after.’  Is it any different today?

From the Church Final Report-http://www.icdc.com/~paulwolf/cointelpro/churchfinalreportIIIb.htm

From December 1963 until his death in 1968, Martin Luther King, Jr. was the target of an intensive campaign by the Federal Bureau of Investigation to “neutralize” him as an effective civil rights leader. In the words of the man in charge of the FBI’s “war” against Dr. King:

No holds were barred. We have used [similar] techniques against Soviet agents. [The same methods were] brought home against any organization against which we were targeted. We did not differentiate. This is a rough, tough business. 1

The FBI collected information about Dr. King’s plans and activities through an extensive surveillance program, employing nearly every intelligence-gathering technique at the Bureau’s disposal. Wiretaps, which were initially approved by Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, were maintained on Dr. King’s home telephone from October 1963 until mid-1965; the SCLC headquarter’s telephones were covered by wiretaps for an even longer period. Phones in the homes and offices of some of Dr. King’s close advisers were also wiretapped. The FBI has acknowledged 16 occasions on which microphones were hidden in Dr. King’s hotel and motel rooms in an “attempt” to obtain information about the “private activities of King and his advisers” for use to “completely discredit” them.

King spoke about the “Security of Justice,” and in this era of terrorism, it gives new meaning to the balance of security and justice.

COINTELPRO inserted spies into Martin Luther King Jr.’s inner circle to report on all his movements and activities, and it effectively destroyed the Black Panther Party by encouraging armed action against other black nationalist groups, smear campaigns against key members and outright targeted attacks. The result was that the group became splintered and the rest of the country didn’t take them seriously as a political force.

Even though COINTELPRO activities were exposed and banned by the ’70s, we still see little baby COINTELPRO efforts pop up today, like when the FBI targeted “domestic terrorist organizations” like Greenpeace and PETA along with evil Quakers. Or when one Obama adviser suggested infiltrating conspiracy theory message boards with secret agents who would discredit “false conspiracy theories about the government.” Because apparently, people on conspiracy theory message boards would never appreciate the irony.  Read more: http://www.cracked.com/article_18955_6-crackpot-conspiracy-theories-that-actually-happened_p2.html#ixzz1BEapsUlg

In 2011, where do we find the balance between privacy and security?  Was Dr. King really a threat? To what, to whom?  Is Assange of WIKI leaks fame a rapist, terrorist, journalist?  Facebook and Social Media certainly provide the opportunity for anyone or government to track your whereabouts.

Cookies used to be about sugar and flour, they are now about leaving a trail of crumbs on which websites you have visited.  How fast we learned about Jared Loughner and his erratic rants on YouTube, MySpace, etc. Here are just a few examples https://ahrcanum.wordpress.com/2011/01/08/giffordsshotpalin/.

Is it so humiliating to get felt up in the airport security line for the greater good? Tough call.  On the one hand, maybe an inspection of my, “junk” is a deterrent to evil shitheads.  On the other hand it seems to be a violation of the 4th Amendment, when there is no probable cause or reasonable suspicion of criminal activity.   More insulting, is that an airplane cargo hold likely gets less of an inspection than my junk.  Go figure.

Back to MLK.  We had the day off, schools and banks closed.  Many lived the American dream being good capitalists and spent the day at the mall using traceable debit and credit cards, facebooking our locations, tweeting the day away, going about our business while someone somewhere, if they really cared ran COINTELPRO on you.  Too bad someone didn’t connect the dots fast enough to Arizona to prevent the shooting spree.  Too bad someone didn’t connect the dots before the events of 911.  Maybe they did.

Even though COINTELPRO was supposed to have ceased long ago, both the Bush and Obama administrations have likely been utilizing what we’ll call, large scale information manipulation and monitoring.  Cass Sunstein heads up the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, where he oversees policy relating to privacy, information quality, and statistical programs. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cass_Sunstein

From Glenn Greenwood at Salon,http://www.salon.com/news/opinion/glenn_greenwald/2010/01/15/sunstein :

Sunstein advocates that the Government’s stealth infiltration should be accomplished by sending covert agents into “chat rooms, online social networks, or even real-space groups.”  He also proposes that the Government make secret payments to so-called “independent” credible voices to bolster the Government’s messaging (on the ground that those who don’t believe government sources will be more inclined to listen to those who appear independent while secretly acting on behalf of the Government).

Whatever one wants to call intelligence these days, someone smart enough, if they wanted to:  knows where you are, what you are doing, what books you have bought on your Kindle or Amazon accounts, the books you have borrowed from the library, can find your address and phone number on Google, identify your computers IP address, knows what products you buy from your frequent shopper cards, can predict what your behavior might be, what memberships you may have in the NRA or YMCA, what your political party affiliation is, and on and on.

Are you old enough to remember “the party line, ” phone calls where you shared phone lines?  One could listen in, and someone could listen to you so you had to watch what you might say about Mrs. Spillane and Mr. DeLuca down the street.  Privacy was paramount.

What privacy we don’t give away today, someone tomorrow can sure find out.   Were MLK alive today, we wonder if he would champion civil liberties as much as he did civil rights.

Let freedom ring.

Glenn Beck delivered an unprecedented punch Saturday at his Restore Honor Rally.  Watching on UStream Live, at times it seemed like I was at Church, hearing a homily about patriotism and the intertwining of God in the founding of America. Just like as it often happens in church, towards then end I am getting bored.

Flipping channels, I also saw Reverend Al Sharpton’s Reclaim the Dream Rally.  Clearly, Glenn Beck’s Restore Honor Rally created much more fervor in the hearts of attendees with a much larger turnout.

The article, A Tale of Two Rallies reviews the days events noting that the Lincoln Memorial was packed a couple hours before the start of “Restoring Honor” while at 10:30am — Thirty minutes before his “Reclaim the Dream” rally start, Al Sharpton has some catching up to do.  http://canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/27080?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

Sharpton never really caught up, in as much as the mainstream media did it’s best to discredit Beck and make it look like there was a larger turnout for Sharpton.

Reading other opinions and news on the events and I stumble into this photo from The New York Daily News, http://www.nydailynews.com.  Check out the cool little frog who is so small it fits inside Lincoln’s head!

INDRANEIL DAS/AFP/Getty Images

Pretty neat photograph to illustrate just how small this frog is.  Wait a minute, why is “In God We Trust,” blurry?  The top of Lincoln’s head seems to be intact, but not the words.

The photo is credited to Indranil Das, an independent documentary photographer based in Kolkata, India. He travels widely to document the rich and wide variety of socio – political – economic scenarios prevailing in India.  (http://www.lightstalkers.org/indranil-das

Perhaps Mr. Das is a non-believer in God.  Does it matter if Das is a Hindu or a Baptist?  A penny is a penny.  A frog is a frog. Why take the effort to remove the words that are clearly there? In God We Trust.  Is God taboo?  Beck, Sharpton and others sure don’t think so.

The Microhyla nepenthicola, is Asia’s smallest frog.  It is all rather ironic that an acronym for F.R.O.G. is, Finally Relying On God.

Beck is a Mormon, Sharpton is a Pentecostal/Baptist, and the jury still debates what President Obama’s religion is.  I don’t know what religion Abe Lincoln was but, “Lincoln read the Bible regularly and was committed to God and morality throughout his life. Some historians call him a Deist,” wrote http://www.adherents.com/people/pl/Abraham_Lincoln.html

Lincoln believed in God and freed millions from slavery.  Obama was sworn in on his Bible.  “Malia Obama, the 10-year-old daughter of President-elect Obama, plans to make herself right at home in the White House and has already called dibs on using Abraham Lincoln’s desk for her homework. http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/President44/story?id=6339711&page=1

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character, said “Martin Luther King, delivered 28 August 1963, at the Lincoln Memorial, Washington D.C. – The full speech is at http://www.americanrhetoric.com/speeches/mlkihaveadream.htm

Is it honorable in America to protest a Muslim mosque near ground zero in NYC?  UncleRUSH, aka Russell Simmons of Def Jam records doesn’t think so in a recent letter to the WSJ. http://globalgrind.com/channel/news/content/1764666/come-with-me-to-tennessee-or-stay-out-of-my-backyard/?pc=1&pi=0

Let’s hope the spirit of Abe Lincoln and Martin Luther King, and the words of Glenn Beck and Al Sharpton bring America together, in the name of God to do what is right, just and moral in this Republic.  We are, one nation under God.
