The U.S. governments plan to, “just get your damned shot,” is costing taxpayers billions.
As always with pandemic flu’s, taxpayers are footing the $1.5 billion check for the 250 million swine flu vaccines that the government has ordered so far and will be distributing free to doctors, pharmacies and schools. In addition, Congress has set aside more than $10 billion this year to research flu viruses, monitor H1N1’s progress and educate the public about prevention.http://abcnews.go.com/Business/big-business-swine-flu/Story?id=8820642&page=1
The Free Flu Shots that are being distributed cost taxpayers a whopping $600 each! There are about 307 million people in the United States, http://www.census.gov/main/www/popclock.html . Current vaccine distribution leaves roughly 57 million or about 18% of the population in the U.S. without access to the H1N1 Influenza Monovalent Vaccine.
Americans, by and large are skeptics and self-select whether or not to get any kind of vaccine. The evidence that vaccines may do more harm than good has become the topic at the water cooler and here. Children get 55 vaccines, and most of the adult population has had numerous inoculations. You only have to look at your arm as a reminder of the polio vaccine and the scar it left behind.
When it comes to the seasonal and Swine Flu shots, parents would be negligent not to worry about a virus that has caused hospitalization and death of both adults and children. As to whether parents are negligent in giving their child yet another vaccine, time will tell. We hope the last government Swine Flu Vaccination program from 1976 is not a precursor to what we can expect to see in the future. The most current ingredient list for nearly all US Licensed Vaccines including H1N1 can be found here https://ahrcanum.wordpress.com/2009/10/07/h1n1-swine-vaccine-package-insert-us-licensed-vaccines/
As it turns out, “more than a third of parents don’t want their kids vaccinated, according to an Associated Press-GfK poll. http://www.healthkey.com/a-z/swine-flu/sns-health-swine-flu-shot-opt-out,0,5198483.story
If parents do not want a seasonal or Swine Flu for their children, most likely they won’t be getting one either. Parents and all taxpayers will pay for those who do get the shot. Could you use a could use the $600 in your pocket? How about a Flu Rebate instead of a Flu Tax? Don’t you just love government run health care so far?
Today, the Senate Finance Committee will vote on its health care reform bill, more commonly known as the Baucus Bill. http://www.docstoc.com/docs/11382446/Baucus-Health-Care-Bill—Full-Text was last penned on September 2009 as The American Healthy Future Act of 2009. Certainly, this has been revised but good luck finding a more recent copy.
The printing presses are busy enough printing money and they are going to get busier. Further eroding the sovereignty of the U.S.A. being an English speaking nation, Section 118 requires that the application be made available in TEN different languages most common among Medicare beneficiaries. http://www.docstoc.com/docs/6989894/Summary-of-the-Baucus-Medicare-Bill-–-S. In pure English, if you can’t acclimate to an English speaking America, you should not be entitled to anything.
How much health care reform is going cost is any one’s guess. If $600 in taxpayer money is being paid for a flu shot, you don’t have to be on pins and needles to know that it won’t be cheap.

Can you guys send me some links as to the effectiveness at preventing influenza in the united states for those who get the H1N1 vaccine as well as the normal seasonal vaccine? Not studies which show blood antibody changes, but real world effectiveness/prevention.
Also, links to show the seasonal vaccine is ‘tested every year before release’ on human subjects.
Thanks!
The point of the flu vaccine regimen is to curb and prevent a pandemic (that is, to build up herd immunity). Since you benefit from a prevented pandemic as much as anyone else, you are as responsible as anyone else to pay for it, even if you don’t yourself get the shot. And no, it’s not reasonable for you to be able to decide whether you personally care if there’s a pandemic. The potential millions of deaths are more important than your $6 (or even your $600).
It isn’t untested. It has undergone tests – if we used the same standards we use on most other drugs, it would take 10 years to get it approved. But flu vaccines are tested every year before they released.
It may not prevent flu in 100% of people who get it … but cancer drugs don’t cure 100% of the people who take them, and even aspirin isn’t 100% at ending headaches.
Of course it’s better to have a possible health pandemic with people dying unnecessarily than sharing the cost for a solution… And yeah, why let $594 get in the way of accuracy?
Facts, in the way of what? The fact is our tax dollars are footing the bill for an untested vaccine that even the manufacturer statements say may not prevent the flu. The fact of the matter is now that President Obama has officially declared a National Emergency the spending rate will continue spiral upwards to combat H1N1 when more die of cancer and Aids than H1N1.
I guess the title wouldn’t be so provocative if you said $6 instead of $600. Don’t let the facts get in the way.
You did the math wrong — it is 6 bucks per person.
