- HONG KONG (AP) –http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=507579&publicationSubCategoryId=200] The swine flu virus hasn’t mutated into a more deadly strain but there are early signs it is developing resistance to vaccine, the World Heath Organization’s chief said Monday.
Authorities are monitoring closely whether the virus was morphing into more virulent forms that would make it deadlier, the organization’s Director-General Margaret Chan said.
For now, the infection is generally mild and most people recover without treatment.
“After analyzing multiple samples of the new flu virus, the team ascertained that in some cases the HA of the new H1N1 strain have mutated, allowing the strain to stick to human cells more easily….the same mutations have been found in HA of the H5N1 strain of influenza, the highly virulent bird flu, which kills about 60 percent of those it infects. ” http://biomedreports.com/articles/most-popular/1438-h1n1-flu-has–
oh shit…partial transcript transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Food and Health, Dr York Chow, at a stand-up media session after attending the 60th Session of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Committee for the Western Pacific today (September 21): sourced from http://hygimia69.blogspot.com/2009/09/hong-kong-sfh-on-human-swine-flu-92109.html
Secretary for Food and Health:
No, I think most of the countries will not get their vaccine until almost November. So we do have sufficient time. And after all, our second wave (of human swine flu), according to experts, is expected to fall in the same seasonal flu peak which will be in January or February. So we do have time to observe the vaccination programme of the other Northern Hemisphere countries, including China, European and North American countries.

(about measures to tackle human swine flu)
Secretary for Food and Health:
So far, it still serves some purpose although I agree that actually the purpose of public health control is diminishing. We will look at when is the appropriate time to change this policy.
Reporter:
Which policy?
Secretary for Food and Health:
We mean border control.
Reporter:
You mean the filling in of health forms?
Secretary for Food and Health:
Yes, the health declaration forms.
Reporter:
How about the scanners?
Secretary for Food and Health:
The scanners are still necessary. The temperature scanning doesn’t bother people that much. People just walk through. I think it is still a useful measure.
Are you feeling better now that we {the World Health Org) has time to observe the vaccination programme? She didn’t say observe the mutation(s) , observe the spread, observe the death toll, observe the numbers or observe her temperature at the border….. no she is observing the vaccination program. How special we say with sarcasm. Most related post can be found here https://ahrcanum.wordpress.com/2009/09/09/swine-flu-mutating/
