Eclipse!
SDO, Solar Dynamics Observatory observed a lunar transit or eclipse. Date stamp is March 4, 2011. Incredible images of the eclipse are from http://sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov/
We can’t help but being humbled. Wonder if it was visible from the space station?
From Pink Floyd, Eclipse
All that you touch and all that you see
all that you taste, all you feel
and all that you love and all that you hate
all you distrust, all you save
and all that you give and all that you deal
and all that you buy, beg, borrow or steal
and all you create and all you destroy
and all that you do and all that you say
and all that you eat and everyone you meet
and all that you slight and everyone you fight
and all that is now and all that is gone
and all that’s to come and everything under the sun is in tune
but the sun is eclipsed by the moon

NASA’s Glory mission launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California Friday at 5:09:45 a.m. EST failed to reach orbit. Telemetry indicated the fairing, the protective shell atop the Taurus XL rocket, did not separate as expected about three minutes after launch. The failure represents a $420 million loss for NASA, and the loss of two important investigations related to climate change: ongoing data collection to monitor the sun’s energy reaching Earth, and a study of how aerosols move through Earth’s atmosphere and may influence climate. http://www.universetoday.com/83726/climate-change-satellite-fails-to-reach-orbit-crashes-in-ocean/
The moon will eclipse the sun from SDO’s perspective in geosynchronous orbit on March 4th 2011 in a very unique way. The moon will first barely graze the sun from above and head down in SDO’s camera, then a few minutes later it will appear again and head the opposite direction, this time covering slightly more of the solar disc. As far as I know it will be the first time any man-made craft has recorded images of a “double solar eclipse” caused by retrograde motion. This video shows the view from SDO’s position in orbit, generated using Celestia.
