President Obama's alleged birth certificate
Did the state of Hawaii, factcheck and the Annenberg Foundation just have a big old luau, roast a pig on birth certificate records- including President Obama’s, for the entire state and the voter wasn’t invited?
Lou Dobbs of CNN did a story (6/23/09) on a topic that some of us by now have reasonably asked ourselves- where is Obama’s Birth Certificate to prove his validity as natural born citizen? In questioning the so-called birthers, the shit hit the fan as CNN’s president as Jon Klein President of CNN allegedly said in an email-
“It seems this story is dead- because anyone who still is not convinced doesn’t really have a legitimate beef.” Klein asked CNN researchers to dig into the question of why Obama couldn’t produce the original birth certificate. The researchers contacted the Hawaii Health Dept. and confirmed that paper documents were discarded in 2001 when the department went paperless. That reportedly includes Pres. If the story were dead, why did the President of a major media outlet request the research in the first place? Is Klein letting Dobbs be the fall guy? Dobbs has expressed his personal belief that Obama was born in Hawaii.
I disagree with Klein in that I as an American citizen do, and am quite entitled to have a legitimate beef with a man as a sitting president who will not, or can not, and definitely has not provided proof- beyond any reasonable doubt that he is Constitutionally qualified to hold the office.
The center of attention is of course President Obama’s birth certificate, but what about his other records that he has failed to release to the public? Last year Hawaii released an official statement from the director of health Dr. Chiyome Fukino that she has seen Obama’s birth certificate and it exsits- circumventing State law (Hawai‘i Revised Statutes §338-18) which prohibits the release of a certified birth certificate to persons who do not have a tangible interest in the vital record.
As the world turn, Dobbs said on his show July 23, 2009 that the state of Hawaii discarded Obama’s paper birth certificate eight years ago. So what the hell did the Hawaii Health Department officials see and what exactly did they mean to say in their news release of October 31, 2008? I mean I am no government official, but when I worked for the airport I went through a very detailed background check… They wanted to know what I was doing as far back as the third grade. Where I lived what school. Any family members in prison the service, working for any gov. agency and so on… This was before 9/11 its probably even worse now.
There is no way he could have even been cleared to walk in the White House with out that kind of clearance let alone sit a senate chair. People must be friggin nuts to believe he is not a US Citizen… Then again the Right wingers, not all conservatives mind you, are pretty insane to begin with. On the morning of Aug 4, 1961, when Barack Obama’s late mother Stanley Ann Dunham was in labor in a ward of the Kapiolani Maternity and Gynecological Hospital on 1319 Punahou St. Honolulu, HI, only a few blocks from Obama’s late grandmother Mrs M. Dunham apartment building and few blocks from Punahou High School 1601 Punahou St., which Obama later attended, another woman, Mrs Eleanor Nordyke, was also in labor in the same ward. Barack Obama was born at 7:32 PM that evening, and Mrs Nordyke bore twin daughters the next day Aug 5, 1961. Mrs Nordyke was issued a “certificate of live birth.” which was essentially a hospital internal document used pre-2001 as a birth certificate by Hawaii. Since Barack Obama was issued the new digitized version issued after 2001 birthers have demanded to see the “real certificate” which Hawaii state official will not release as a privacy matter to persons without tangible interests. However, Factcheck is aware that Eleanor Nordyke and family still reside in Honolulu and possibly may agree to make a statement. Also, retired nurses of Kapiolani Maternity Hospital are believed to be available, even if the birthers have claimed that the hospital denied any record of Obama’s birth there. That is a fabrication. Now in the early 1900’s-1920’s many of America’s babies were delivered by mid-wives with the assistance of elderly female neighbors/friends who brought kettles of hot water and clean sheets. This was especially common in Hawaii’s sugar plantation camps. Because of the lack of adequate transportation or free off-time, report of births were delayed, sometimes for years. Under a”delayed report of birth” procedure, certified copies of mid-wive’s or house-calling physician’s ledger, two witnesses to the birth, at least one parent, and the baby/child appeared before a state authority and sworn testimony taken. Upon approval a “Certificate of Hawaiian birth” was issued with the child’s full name, and DOB (some times with photo) period, and continued issuing the “Long form certificate. Later, in 2001, the state of Hawaii, along with much of nation’s states, decided to digitize all birth records into computerized data base and issuing a new “certification of live birth” using only data required to meet national legal standards for citizenship, passport,social security and other legal requirements. All challenges, including a Supreme Court decision supported the validity of the new digitized birth certificate every where in the US. I believe the White House and the democratic congress are patiently letting the birthers and their Republican party backers only embarrass themselves, but Factcheck might want to check with Mrs Eleanor Nordyke and family?

I am amazed that you haven’t mentioned anything of our governments immense security apparatus which have been conducting background investigations for decades for security clearances. Under National Security Directive 63 (1991) and Executive Order 12958 (1995), a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI), all federal employees, Representatives, Senators and the POTUS require varying degrees of background checks for access to varying degrees of classified information. The POTUS, with access to the most sensitive compartmented information (SCI) requires the most stringent of checks. While the FBI and later the Defense Security Services were charged with conduct of SSBIs, it was consolidated in the Office of Personnel Management’s Federal Investigative Services (FIS). The SSBI starts off WITH A CHECK OF SUBJECT’S BIRTH CERTIFICATE (ITS AUTHENTICITY) AND CITIZENSHIP STATUS, followed by check of FBI, national agencies, criminal, civil, financial, credit, educational, military, medical records, personal habits and associations, foreign travels, residences, or relations, interviews of fellow employees, neighbors, and developed sources for any adverse personal or subversive activity. information, and of loyalty to the US. The finished investigation is adjudicated by a professional staff for completeness and efficacy of investigation, and recommendation rendered for issuance or denial of security clearance. It is amazing that no agency has leaked anything of an investigation completed on Senator Obama in past years or President Obama currently. This is an area Fact Check is requested to check. President Obama has no obligation to show any personal records, let alone his birth certificate, since these have been lawfully checked and cleared by competent authorities. FYI I have a “Certificate of Hawaiian Birth” with my name and DOB, period. I’ve had a FBI Full Field Complete Background Investigation and at least 5-6 follow ups by FBI and/or the Defense Dept Investigative Services in my forty two years of military and federal government services and yes, a polygraph examination too. As a “natural-born (in Hawaii) citizen of the US, I must express my strongest protest to birthers and their conspirators such as Lou Dobbs, that it is an insult to all Hawaii’s people, our Republican Governor Linda Lingle, her Director of Health Dr.Chiyome Fukino. Our state and counties technology information data base is up to par with the nation and the crazy birthers can’t except the fact that we have moved ahead to a “paperless data system” and they are still another century behind in their insistence in seeing the “old fashioned and archaic birth certificate” of the past. For some Hawaii official to say that they saw Obama’s original certficate is not enough, We The People want to see it! What is Obama hideing? If he wasn’t covering up something then he would not care if The American People seen it now would he?
Re the digitized image. The latest news is that Hawaii did not destroy the original. CNN was simply wrong.
Today’s news is that the Hawaii official repeats that she has seen the original birth certificate. In 1961, it could not be a foreign birth certificate.

The records are electronic. The copy they send you is a laser-printed copy of the summary of the original, known as the Certification of Live Birth.

There is plenty of proof that Obama was born in Hawaii and no proof whatsoever that Obama was born anywhere else than Hawaii.
As you probably know, no president has shown proof of citizenship before Obama. Not one has shown a birth certificate to the public or, in fact, at all. Some would not have been able to show proof because their birth documents were lost. The usual response of the birthers to this fact is that no president before had had his place of birth questioned.
This is true, but it is only the birthers who question his place of birth, and they do so without the slightest proof that Obama was born anywhere else. Indeed, they often deliberately twist the truth, and sometimes they lie.
The claim that Obama was born in Kenya is absurd. His Kenyan grandmother did not say that Obama was born in Kenya. She said that he was born in HAWAII. And, not only was the story that the grandmother said that Obama was born in Kenya made up, so was the allegation that other relatives said it (nothing has been published) and that there are birth files in Kenya that have been sealed by the Kenyan government (no confirmation from any agency other that WND that there are any files or that any files are sealed). And the claim that Obama had to have an Indonesian passport to go to Pakistan in 1981 was made up too. Pakistan was not on a no-travel list and it did not keep US citizens out. It welcomed them. The allegation that Obama was an Indonesian citizen was also made up, and it has been denied by both Indonesia and the US State Department.
But it is the Kenyan story that is key to this myth. If he were born there, he would not be a Natural Born Citizen, to be sure. But he was NOT born there.
There is no evidence that Obama’s mother ever went to Kenya much less given birth there. IF she had given birth in Kenya, there would have to be Kenyan documents AND US government documents. To get Obama from Kenya to Hawaii (where we know that he was seen a few weeks after his birth) requires some kind of travel document. Most likely that would have been a British passport issued in Kenya with a USA entrance visa on that passport. Or, less likely, his mother’s US passport could have been changed while in Kenya to include Obama and thus let him travel to the USA.
But either of those documents would have required records in the US State Department files. Files of applications for a visa or for a change to the passport. Those files would still be in the State Department, which was under the Republicans for years before the election and for three months after it. Yet nothing has been found.
And there would be Kenyan documents. If Obama were born in Kenya he would have an Kenyan birth certificate. It is claimed that Kenya sealed those files, but this has never been confirmed, and in a country with rampant corruption, if there had been any files, then for a certain sum of $$$$ they could have been unsealed.
So there is not the slightest proof that Obama was born in Kenya, and the idea that his mother even went to Kenya when she was pregnant is laughable. You had to have a Yellow Fever shot to go to Africa in those days, which is really bad during pregnancy.
The myth that Obama was born in Kenya was all made up. But, despite this fact, the birthers say that ” Truth is Obama has not shown proof of citizenship.”
The truth is that the evidence that Obama was born in Hawaii is overwhelming.
First, there is the legal proof of the Certification of Live Birth, which Obama has posted on line and shown to BOTH FactCheck and Polifact, and which the officials in Hawaii have confirmed that they sent to him. (At this point birthers usually say “Factcheck is a liberal organization.” But it is absurd to believe that both FactCheck and Polifact could make up the comments by the officials in Hawaii or forge the Certification that is shown in great detail on FactCheck’s site.)

The next allegation by the birthers is that Hawaii’s certification is also issued to people who were born outside of Hawaii. Yes, this is true, but this was not the case in 1961. When Obama was born in 1961, only Hawaii-issued birth certificates could be filed in Hawaii birth certificate files. (And even today, when a child is born outside of Hawaii and receives a Hawaii birth document, that document cannot lie, so if the kid were born in Mexico, the document would read like this: “Hawaii Certification of Live Birth. Location of Birth: Mexico.”
But Obama’s birth certificate says on it: “Location of Birth: Honolulu, Hawaii.”
Could the original birth certificate in the file be a delayed birth certificate or a certification of Hawaiian birth? No because both of those require substantial delays, of several months to a year. Yet we know from the notices posted in the newspapers on the weekend after Obama’s birth (notices that were sent out by the Hawaii government and were NOT advertisements) that there was no delay in registering Obama’s birth. The newspaper notices are themselves proof. They are identical notices in both of the major newspapers of Hawaii, and they were sent out by the Department of Vital Statistics ONLY for births in Hawaii, and not for births outside of Hawaii.
Then, in addition to the proof of the Certification itself, and the confirmation that the Department sent a certification to Obama, and the notices in the newspaper, there occurred the confirmation of the two officials who looked into the file and said that there was an original birth certificate in the file. Since Hawaii did not allow foreign birth certificates to be filed in 1961, and it cannot be a delayed or Hawaiian certificate because there was no delay, the original birth certificate in the file can only be a Hawaiian birth certificate. And this was confirmed in a press interview (supplemented by the same thing in writing in an e-mail) which was done by the spokeswoman for the Department of Health of Hawaii and quoted by the Chicago Tribune (http://www.swamppolitics.com/news/politics/blog/2008/11/obama_hawaaianborn_citizen_for.html)
And in addition to all that official proof that Obama was born in Hawaii, there is this witness who confirms hearing about the birth to a woman called Stanley at the time, and writing about it to her father, who also was called Stanley. (http://www.buffalonews.com/494/story/554495.html)
Against this overwhelming amount of official and witness evidence that Obama was born in Hawaii, birthers raise such things as the allegation that Obama’s sister said that he was born at a different hospital (not true, she was misquoted) or that the hospital cannot confirm (because that is the law. It cannot divulge patient information). Or, it is often said that if there were an original birth certificate, then Obama would have shown it. But, as shown in (http://www.starbulletin.com/features/20090606_kokua_line.html), which was cited before, Hawaii now sends out only the Certification of Live Birth.
This being the case, unless Obama has a copy of the original and not lost it (and many of us do lose our birth certificate) then all that he can show is the document that Hawaii sent him, which was the certification of live birth. Still, there is nothing wrong with that. It is accepted as proof of birth in Hawaii by the US State Department for issuing passports.
