You thought fracking for oil and gas could be bad? How about the tar sands of Alberta, Canada?

The tar sands cover 141,000 sq km of Alberta. Twenty per cent of this has 174billion recoverable barrels close enough to the surface to be strip-mined.

This is done by removing the forest and the peaty soil beneath, before gas-heated water is then forced through the tar sand to melt and separate bitumen from the sand and clay.

What a mess. We’ve seen strip mines in the U.S. mostly fully reclaimed but this is a huge effin land mass.

Besides the vast amount of land, is what appears to look like FEMA camps for the workers.

Where are all the employee cars? How come the fence looks like it is built to keep people in, not keep people out?

Who builds these kind of housing? Time to do a stock search. Wanna bet, made in China? Wanna bet that there is an order from FEMA in case of an emergency?
