President Barack Hussein Obama will deliver the commencement address at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., today. Among outrage and protests, the Catholic university will also bestow upon him a Doctor of Laws honorary degree. President Obama has made clear he stands against what most Catholics believe in- obfuscating everything from traditional marriage to abortion.
The Catholic Bishops summed it up pretty clearly, “The Catholic community and Catholic institutions should not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles. They should not be given awards, honors or platforms which would suggest support for their actions.” http://www.usccb.org/bishops/catholicsinpoliticallife.shtml So much for playing by the rules!
The Text of Obama’s Honorary Doctorate: “At the 164th Commencement The May Exercises The University of Notre Dame Confers the degree of
Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, on the 44th president of the United States, whose historic election opened a new era of hope in a country long divided by its history of slavery and racism. A community organizer who honed his advocacy for the poor, the marginalized and the worker in the streets of Chicago, he now organizes a larger community, bringing to the world stage a renewed American dedication to diplomacy and dialogue with all nations and religions committed to human rights and the global common good. Through his willingness to engage with those who disagree with him and encourage people of faith to bring their beliefs to the public debate, he is inspiring this nation to heal its divisions of religion, culture, race and politics in the audacious hope for a brighter tomorrow. On Barack H. Obama, Washington, District of Columbia” sourced at- http://www.stopobamanotredame.com/
Pardon me while I vomit. “…heal it’s division of religion…”? ND is a Roman Catholic School, a religious school, there is no decisiveness, no division, and the sanctity of life is paramount at Notre Dame and for Catholics. Surely Catholics have abortions, but celebrating a man who once called pregnancy a mistake out of wedlock is just misguided in so many ways.
I can’t wait to hear his speech and wonder if at the end he will say, “God Bless America?” Should the TelePrompter fail perhaps he will have slip of the tongue and say “God Damn America,” after listening to Rev Wright’s sermons for so many years.
Touchdown Jesus, must certainly be crying on this day. For us football fans pray too that we see a season of successful Hail Mary’s on and off the field.

You’re welcome. Love the newest photos as well!
Hi, just saw your comment you left in my blog last Christmas season — thanks for the visit and for the good wishes.
Take care!
First- The Catholic Church refers to abortions as a reason for excommunication and an act of heresy. http://www.catholicplanet.com/articles/article78.htm Whatever a Catholic chooses to believe, Church law dictates.
Second: He supports granting civil unions for gay couples, and in 2006 he opposed a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. http://pewforum.org/religion08/compare.php?Issue=Gay_Marriage
Memo: “diplomacy and dialog with all nations and religions committed to human rights and the global common good.” Religions committed to human rights I believe would include the common good for all nations- that the right to life, is a basic fundamental of civilization.
Props to his speech writers and him for a fine and eloquent address.
This post as a few factual errors, but I’d like to correct the most important ones:
First: Most Catholics do not think abortion should be illegal.
Second: President Obama does not and never has supported same-sex marriage.
Perhaps there is a reason that Obama received 54% of the Catholic vote.
Past speakers have included General Sherman, the man who burned his way to Savannah during the Civil War. J. Edgar Hoover, who seemingly had a relationship with another man and George W. Bush, who lied to the country and sent Americans to die and kill civilians.

Aren’t these actions in “defiance” of Catholic fundamental moral principles?
It seems to me that the right wing is blowing this out of proportion due to their hatred of Obama. I’m not the biggest fan of abortion, but what has Obama done to increase abortions? Do you really believe that Notre Dame has NEVER honored or invited another pro-choice person to speak? Conservatives are propping up Obama as a symbol unfairly and casting a shadow on what should be a happy day for ND grads.
What would Jesus do?
Divisions in the nation, not the university, genius…
